I was reading this thread ( http://www.everypony.com/forums/showthread.php?8567-You-guys ) and I got an interesting idea, which I have decided to post immediately. It may or may not be a realistic one. What if, at the top of the page next to the banner, we had a small box of scrolling text that mentioned whose birthday it was today? It could also display other tidbits, but I thought it would be really neat and since other users can't see the "Happy Birthday" banners (unless it is their birthday), this might be a cool way to bring the community together a bit more. I know that we've experimented with having notifications in that same spot, but this would be more of a Star Wars-esque box of repeatedly scrolling text. However, I'm not sure how difficult this would be to create. What does everybody else think?
We have something that tells of who's birthday it is down at the bottom of the site. Though yes it would be nice if that could move somewhere more noticable if possible.
Jeez, I've never seen that. ;-; I just feel like it would, you know, be really cool if there was an overt notification system for things like that.
Yeah, the message at the bottom that displays birthdays has been around for a while. The fact that members who have been here for a while haven't noticed it clearly shows that it isn't noticeable. I think either implementing this idea, or just moving that section to the top of the page would be a good change.
This is exactly what I was going to say. I support your idea though. It's small things like this that will make members feel more welcome around here.
I like this idea, it might also help improve the site's appearence. On the tidbits, it could contain fun little facts, areas, etc.
as people above said we do have it, but it's on bottom of page. it would be nice to move it little bit up, so it's more noticeable
Good suggestion. Somewhere around here above the forums would be adequate I think. Small and not in the way. Thoughts? Sidebar is a possibility as well.
We could try to the right of the "Everypony's Network" logo, or maybe we could make a little space just below it.
Is it possible to also program a special banner to display only tot he person whose birthday it is? That would be pretty awesome. Something with a vector of something like this.
You mean one that would replace the theme banner, just for a day? Or one that would pop up on the side? I find that idea interesting.
That looks like good placement for the spring theme, Mike. On the Pinkie Pie theme, there is a ton of dead space next to the Everypony banner. You could easily put both a list of birthdays, and some form of vector like Yami suggested.
It already does, kind of, via notice message that gets put up on the top when they login. I can just make it show something more pony I guess. Quite right.
