Applebloom: Poetic Explains

Now I've heard this question a lot, and it's a fair question; it comes up quite a bit, and it's too long of an answer for me to explain over a simple Skype call, chat-room or private messaging system. The question being:

"Poetic, why do you hate Applebloom?"

This is NOT a rant thread, or a hate thread, I'm just going to give my reasons just why on how I don't like this "adorable" filly.

Therefore, this is all strictly just my own opinion, to help you get a better understanding. I may be an inhumane monster in your eyes, but just hear me out.

1. Adorableness:

Coincidentially, this is my first reason. I honestly do not find Applebloom adorable, mostly because of all the other features that she has as a character which I shall be getting into in a moment. I think that I'd d'awww much more over something like this:

2. Her character design:

Yellow and red just don't do it for me. I don't like Cherry Jubilee's design much either, which would kind of help to explain this point, however, she at least had some redeeming features. Her mane to say the least, I'm a bit ehhhhhh on, and it would probably look better on a different colour scheme to be fair. However, one of the major things is that bow. Now done properly as I've seen on a lot of OCs in the past, it can look pretty, and make the pony look unique and fashionable. This one however, does not. It's an attempt at making the character as cute and as sweet as possible, and in my opinion, they tried too hard. This is shown by the bow, and quite frankly, they tried to make her so sweet, that in the end she's quite sickly, and pratically gives me headaches when she's on screen. It's like a cake that's too large and too sugary to eat.

3. Her voice:

Her accent, I'm fine with, Applejack - her sister - pulls it off well and it is one of the best voices (next to Luna's and Rarity's) in the show. But, the problem with Applebloom's, is that it sounds so whiny and squeaky, and it practically pierces my ears every time I hear it.



Not only that, but every two minutes it sounds like she's shouting as loud as she can. I haven't seen many quotes where she talks normally. Maybe that's because she's meant to be an energetic filly, but it's just grating and annoying to me. I'm sure it's not Michelle Creber's fault, just a poor design idea on the studio's hoof.

Don't even try spamming me with it everywhere anymore, I know the link off by heart, and to be honest, the best part is literally the end. This video makes me feel ill.

5. Her episodes:

I. Get. So bored, in her episodes. I'll watch them, as I watch every episode, but it doesn't mean that I like them. The only one I do kind of like, and is mostly because the storyline's interesting for once, is "Ponyville Confidential", that also being the only time I've shed a manly tear during a CMC episode. And that was only because I was just so shocked at how Big Macintosh gave them such a cruel beatdown of words. I like the fact that he talked, but god! However, the Cockatrice episode, and the band episode, I just could not stand. "Hearts and Hooves Day" was saved mostly by Mac and Cheerilee. I also don't like it when the mane six aren't the focus of the episode, because they are greatly designed characters, and that at least progresses some kind of storyline. Not to mention the fact that no memes like "Fluttershy is a tree" or something will pop up in a CMC episode.

6. Her personality:

At this point I think it's fair to say I've covered most of it, and this will be my last reason. Her personality, suffice to say, is too leadership like, and teamed up with her super annoying shouty voice, this can make things cringeworthy for me to watch. If anything, Sweetie Belle should be in charge, seeing as how she's probably the most responsible. I mean, Scootaloo has a pretty cool character, a young filly pegasus super fan who wants nothing more than be able to fly and get her cutie mark. Sweetie Belle's character is the sister of a busy sibling, and she just wants to play with her, and growing up to be like her. Applebloom's character....a filly who will stop at nothing to get her cutie mark.

Really, I mean, she's like that EVERY episode she's in, which is what makes them pretty boring. And how selfish can you get? She's constantly bossing the CMCs around, yet she's probably the one who's furthest away from her cutie mark. Oh, and don't get me started on "Bridle Gossip", I practically wanted to send her to the moon when she started treating Appletini badly.

I suppose that's it really, I could go on, but I'd end up sounding like I'm ranting. I'm just answering a question that's been put forwards to me over a dozen times, and hopefully this helps. Look at it how you wish, I'm not going to say anymore about it in this thread, and I won't argue with your opinion, as this is just my own.
