I tried uploading a .gif as a profile pic/avatar but the animation does not play for some reason. I see others with animated pics so I know it is supported here. It's most likely a problem on my side.
Vbulletin can be rather funny with animated gifs, ensure the image your uploading does not exceed the size or dimension limits we have in place for while the site will optimize the image in order for it to them itself, in doing so it will break the animation.
