Hay there! I'm Alex if haven't read and I really want to go to B.U.C.K (Brony UK Convention) in Manchester, although I live in Hampshire. I have the money all set for August (I'm unbelievably exited ) and I am roaring to go with my fellow brony friends, although there is an obstacle. My parents are usually fine with me going to Conventions, concerts, ect. but they don't know about the brony culture and all in all, they are quite sceptical about these kinds of fandoms. I don't particularly want to tell them, but if I don't I wont go to B.U.C.K. I thought about it for a while, and then thought it was a good idea to talk to our amazing community whom I love and I know you guys will help me. What I'm trying to ask you is how do you explain that you are a brony to your parents who wont understand the whole culture and will most probably pick on me until my adulthood? Any Ideas? Thanks everypony! Out! ~AlexSenpaii :derpe:
To be honest, mine didn't really mind. I've had a few comments like "I don't mind you liking what you want to like, but come out of the closet soon." It's all been in good humour though. Just say to them (if you need to explain, odds are they'll just be like "whatever"), that it's a good show, with good animation, good music etc. Or that you want to meet your friends there and hang out with them at BUCK more than anything else. If you do get to go, look out for the guy with my avatar on his shirt.
I think I will try and go ^.^, we need to get a meet-up group going with a few fellow bronies and all. I mean I'm going from Hampshire which is a pain in the ass and I wont be able to get into the after party , but I still think its gunna be epic! And yeah, I will try and give you a bro-hoof while I'm there!
I explained the entire fandom and show to my mother last night in the car. She was actually quite into the episode i was watching on my laptop xD (spikes venture to finding his dragon ilk) and she did not make fun of me at all. I explained how i enjoy the shows simplicity, and morals and how it's a happy place...a simple show without all the crud and crap of today's mainstream media....its just a happy place for me.
I have to say thank's! You have put a lot of confidence in me to tell my mum about it all. Although I still need to get past my father who is a lot less accepting (I was once apart of a zombie Apocalypse preparation group which I told him all about, he hated it and told me to leave -__-) But thanks for the advice! Wish you good luck telling your father! ^^ (also, lol @ the zombie apocalypse preparation group. was it an online one, or a real-life one? )
