I thought this video was interesting. I heard about Richard Bacon's troubles a while ago on the BBC News website.
Maybe a good discussion topic? Expect the usual "BBC type" approach to this.

Interesting to see some trolls in the flesh.
    Not surprised by the result.

I like this reporter, he's got the balls to address what is actually a serious internet problem for everyone.

    This is good...real good.

But trolls that target memorial sites?

Those kinds of people shouldn't be allowed to breathe.

HYPOTHETICAL:If someone i knew died and i made a memorial post/blog/video whatever. And trolls did that to me.

I would ask my Mom."Can i remove their heads? Its obvious they dont need them."

First point, I have watched the entirety of this. Highly interesting.

Sparky, that's entirely the wrong way to think. By doing that, you're no better than the trolls.

While I do admit that trolling is an art, there's certain bounds to avoid in order to not look like an idiot. It's quite clear that these folk have little knowledge on society and the implications of taking it on with vile comments, such as on pages about deaths of a person.

Apart from that, I'm in no mood to write.

Just finished watching this. To be honest, I'm quite unchanged by this video. Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely horrible what happened to Tom and his family, but in the end, there's not much that can be done is there? It's sad that people have to stoop to such a low level to get amusement, but it's the internet. It's just too damn difficult to track everyone down and people just need to realize that there are others out there who don't give a *squee!* about what they say and don't care about the potential consequences that may follow. Trolling will never stop, but can be suppressed if people take the time to educate themselves on how to protect their online identities.

They need to make it so the punishment fits the crime. If they are caught and convicted, do like what happened to Kevin Mitnick, ban them from using the internet or even computers. If they violate that and are caught, then you are talking real jail time with multiple felony counts of violating parole and court orders. Give them 5-10 years instead of 14 weeks. Because you know they won't be able to stay away from the internet.

I just don't understand the mindset of why you would want to do that. But I am all for freedom of speech - If we didn't let people say whatever they wanted, how would we know who the a**holes are?

    Just putting that out there.

I put cyberbullying and trolling in entirely different classes. The former is insulting.
