Ohhhhh yes. It's time for another Legion RP! It will be terrible as always, but I'm thinking of coming up with my own way to do...things.

I mean, free RP is good and all, but sometimes it can get a bit out of hand, as evidenced in a few RPs I've had complaints about recently. People don't agree where the boundaries of "realistic" and "normal" lie, and this is a source of strife. So. I am going to try to develop a system specifically for forum RP.

By that, I mean I am going to try for the following goals:

-No dice, because forum has no dice.
-No complicated rules, because if we want that (which I do, not dissing complicated rules, I love them), we have EPRP.
-Easy to make character sheets, because simplicity.

Basically, I'm trying to design this for the audience that thinks EPRP sounds fun, but is intimidated by all the stuff involved in it. Or just the people who really like forum RP and want to do something like EPRP there, but there are no dice.

Yes! Erm...don't ask me for specifics yet. I had the idea for it, and some general thoughts on how it would work, but I can't really explain it yet. But I hope it is successful!

    Who is interested? Hmm?

I promise, it won't be hard! I mean, it won't be free RP, of course, it will have rules, but it won't be complicated. :3 And the rules will mostly center around things that commonly cause disputes in free RP, like combat, and magic. And stuff.

I'm interested, and I don't see any reason for not giving this a shot.
Attempt at taking the forum RP'ing to the next level, hmm...

Okay, well, I've made some progress, the first thing I have found is that it is VERY HARD to make without dice. But I am going to try!

If you guys don't like it that way when I present it to ya, then just tell me, I'll add dice in. Shouldn't be too hard.

I'm still brainstorming, but I haven't been able to just sit down and write stuff out like I prefer to, since I've been...kind of crazy with all my college stuff, moving in and such.

I'm still doing it though! Diceless system needs to be very balanced though. Dice make it more random, and therefore more balanced, but diceless can be abused so much...x.x

The main issue lies with the fact that there is nothing solid to settle conflicts (i.e. fights) between PCs. In an EPRP-type situation, you simply see who has the higher dice roll to see who wins. In freeform, you're more or less going on the honor system and hoping that when you throw a punch at someone, that they'll react accordingly. (Such as not no-selling everything you throw at them.)

Getting down to brass tacks, forum RP is more about storytelling than hard mechanics. If the players aren't able to...um, collaborate and tell a story, then the RP is doomed to fail.

All of this being said, I would recommend some sort of "ticket" system. Every player gets a certain number of tickets that they burn if, say they perform an action that the GM/other players don't agree with. If they can't come up with a satisfactory reason why their character could or could not perfect that action, the ticket gets used up and the story moves forward. Like a kind of "Retcon" function.

But, honestly, I'm just spitballing here. Take it as you will. :)

I like that idea! Perhaps I'll implement it, I've seen it in other systems too. But I still want some sort of mechanics system. I mean, any role play is doomed if players can't work together; for the most part I'm just making this system so that the cooperative , rational players don't have to put up with players who are more uncooperative.

In other news, I'm considering just having dice be part of the system. Not sure yet though. I'm going to write some stuff out, because that helps me think, and I'll get back to here on it.

And just a reminder of course, this is just a system for those who want to implement it. Maybe only I'll use it, who knows, hah. I'm not forcing anypony to use it, though. It'll be entirely the GM's choice how they make their RP; I'm just trying to provide another option and make it easier to implement.

This takes me back to my days when I rp'ed in wow... The whole "honor" thing wasn't so much of a problem because the game had a built in dice system (typing "/roll" would show a random number between 1 and 100) but people would still be "creative" enough to cause ways to flat out ignore the roll system. Like rogues saying they get free shots because they were invisible. Swarming someone adn forcing them to roll 5 times, etc.

Long story short, honor is the only system that can be relied on. Those that break it... well you just don't rp with them anymore.

Yup, that is quite true. ^^

The idea of stats interests me because it makes it more difficult to break things. If your character is good at fighting, all right, but then they probably won't be so good at thinking or paying attention. Unlike in a Godmod situation where the character would beat up the boss single hoofedly while reciting pi backwards. :p

It's also important to have a GM who knows what they're doing, because if you don't then the players will break the game with objections like "my character read this book in two seconds, they now know everything it it, they don't need to roll knowledge!" Gotta be strict and say "No".
