I've seen this idea work on other sites so I think it could work here. Basically you can get forum currency every time you post/make a thread (10 bits or 5 bits) and also a monthly balance of let's say 50 bits. With this you would be able to spend it on customisable things on the forum such as coloured names, name changes and custom titles. For an example on how it will work let's say someone on the thread you can buy stuff from has 25,000 and wants 'master pancake eater' as his/her custom title, they would pay the required amount e.g. 5000 bits and after a couple of days instead of the senior/junior member that would replace it. I hope you like this idea and implement it soon.
well, colored names go to the mods. Custom titles were given out. coughIwasthefirstcough And you can already change your name once every 6 months I believe.
On a completely unrelated note, I once tried to figure out how much money a bit was worth, and came to about $4 I think. The Equestrian economy must be doing well (Oh, except for cherries, those things are really overpriced)
Devil's advocate - If you give out "coins" for each post, we are going to get even more useless drivel posts in GCT than we do now. In fact, it would encourage it. Giving out "coins" for good, quality posts sounds a lot like the rep system. We all know that's apparently a taboo subject here now as well.
I was stating a contrary position. Why not just bring back the rep system instead? It sounds like that's what this would be anyways. And we all already have post counts, we need another number of it multiplied by 5? Should I feel insulted by your comparison? Cause I kinda do.
I don't know what you mean. I wasn't attempting to insult anyone. I really think something good can be formed from this idea. That's all.
If I'm honest, I think rep would be a bad thing for the site. We've already had the whole fiasco of people thinking the mods think they're more important than the users because they've got a fancy title, we don't need that to carry into the member base itself, as no doubt it will feed people's egos incredibly and make others feel less important. As for the bits idea, it has potential, but it could be very hard to implement from my understanding.
Hard, but not impossible, but considering what has gone on, it's probably too much work for them to try.
You know, the site may not be in a brilliant state right now, but there's no need for comments like that. If I was on the staff still, that would hurt, and the staff are still human. If you haven't got anything nice or productive to say, don't say it at all, there was no need for the last part.
You seem to be misunderstanding my words. I say that because from what I hear from Yeti(only staff who's opinion I value) the staff are busy doing things in their own lives, whether it be work, relationships, etc. It could be a bunch of hooey, but I trust his word.
