I've noted that, if there is a comment on my blog (and my blog alone) by another person, I am given rights to edit said comment. Is it really necissary to be allowed to edit other people's comments on your blog, even if you're not a moderator? Seems a bit powerful, don't you think? EDIT: My apologies to Caberea, of whom I used as a guinea pig to see if I could, in fact, edit comments. Don't worry, I changed my edit back immediately afterwards.
It's your own personal little area so you have total control over it. It'd be the equivalent of someone going to your house, you're the one in charge. If you feel that someone has commented innappropriately, you should have the option to do something about it.
It can be disabled if necessary. If it becomes a problem where people are editing other people's comments (ie to make them look bad, or say something they didn't actually say) then yes it will become a problem. I'll talk to Grey about it. Now that we have a blog moderator, he should be the only one to edit comments (my personal opinion). Thank you for pointing this out.
Eeyup, we only have one blog moderator and if you consider we have a blog for potentially every registered users, well, things are going to be overlooked and hard to keep on top of. Giving the owner of a blog some control over the content (editing out swears etc) seemed like a good idea. Like Mike said, we can take it out if you believe it's a problem but to be pretty straight with you, if you abuse the power and annoy people, they won't read or comment on your blog, simple as. So it's only really possible to do any significant amount of damage to yourself. Note that we can see what you edited and who edited it, if the need arises. So people shouldn't try and blame a mod or claim people said something they didn't.
