Someone suggested to me that there is in fact a secret official lesbian couple in My Little Pony. Bonbon and Lyra. Aside fromt he fact that they're alwats together in the background, you can see Bonbon carrying bags with Lyra's mark on them.
They are absolutely adorable. They should've been seen dancing together at the wedding or something, I would've freaked out. Design-wise, I like Lyra a bit better though.
Honestly, I disklike the whole Lyra and BonBon thing. Can't they just be best friends and not lesbians? I guess it just frustrates me 'cuz I wrote a whole fanfic of a story with Lyra and me. Unless they officially announce anything in the show about their relationship, which I seriously doubt, I'm just going to assume they are best friends, no more or less. I've given her a completely different personality than every else seems to have given her. From what I see, everyone makes her out to be a tomboy. My heart melted when she spoke in the last episode. Her voice was a little different than I expected, but her 3 word sentence is burned in my mind forever. EDIT: ^^Just looked at that pic. It's exactly how I thought too.
I never got the whole "they are spending time together so they must be lesbians"-thing, either. But then again, I'm not really into shipping random characters.
I sort of think the Bon Bon and Lyra thing is true. I've watched many videos showing them together. But perhaps they are just best friends since I can't see the two of them as lesbians at all.
I really don't think the show will ever have them as lesbians, but I do like that they have them as close friends in the background - where they should stay. If they went into every single character that fanon has come up with in the story, it would be so diluted the show would not be nearly as good as it is today.
Well look a lot of people would really love to see a kid's cartoon show that can actually show a lesbian couple without it being made into a big deal. Now like going at it, but a kiss or a date should be fine, especially considering the sort of thing they do with Big Mac and CHeerilee in that valentine one.
That's the point. Like I keep telling people, apathy is the way forward. Int he old days it was weird to see a black person on TV, let alone in a starring role in a kid's show. Now, nobody cares. For gay people it's just Prime Time at the moment starting way back with shows liek Three's Company and then Will & Grace going up to now when it's on CSI every other week without anybody giving a crap. Yes it'll be shock at first, but they need to push forward until it's so common nobody notices any more. besides, it's not like they'd be the first obviously gay people in this show. Besides, it works in Japan
Well first off, I'd liek to be sure they do it before they get cancelled. Besides it also worked in Sailor Moon, Card Captors, Kim Possible, and a variety of other animated shows. And think of the ratings! Television history if they did it, right?
I don't know about the other two, but Sailor Moon's resulted in a lot of confusion and controversy, especially during its era. The problem is, there are far too many people that consider a gay relationship in children's animation as morally wrong. This rings strongest where religion is involved. That's why they would likely never get into it. If the show was legitimately for older audiences, it could happen... but this is America we're talking about.
I don't think that their actually a couple, but the idea of them being in love is kinda cute in my opinon, so I do like the pairing. Probably my favorite background pony pairing actually. Besides, I really don't see what's so horrible about the idea of them being together like that. Oh noes, two fictional charectors of the same gender may or may not be a couple! The horror! Seriously, It seems like some of you are hating on a Background pony pairing for no good reason. Pairings are just fanon anyway {Except the actual couples like Mr. and Mrs cake, and Shining armor/Candance}, no reason to get so offended by the very thought of them being together.
Your answer is logical, but haters usually don't operate on logic. Anyway, a kid's show is probably not the best starting point for officially including gay relationships, not necessarily because it's wrong for kids to accept them, but because of the parents who'll throw tantrums wherever they can. Adults would have to tolerate it first, so they don't ruin such shows for their kids.
Alot of the controvercy was over they trying to edit it out.. cousins! Ha! http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/3641/dearteachercheerileetod.png
I would like to think they are a couple, as lesbians just being people aren't common in the tv world now. But I seriously think that they won't ever be introduced as such in this era's kid shows. Gay rights as an idea is great with our generation, and should be introduced to the younger generation along the road, but right now the older gen is in charge, and most of them are skecthy on it at best. It's a shame.
I would like and could see them just being openingly loving in the background, that way bronies like us can be happy while other viewers can take what they want from it. Kids can just think they are really good friends or sisters. C: Though an episode about them coming out and accptance would be amazing...;A;
Lyra & Bon-Bon are most likely just Best buds, like sisters from another mothah or something like that lol. Of course they could be a couple, nothing wrong with that. However since MLP is a kids show I highly doubt the type of relationship the two have will ever be legitimized one way or another. So I say let the fans have their fun, lol. Friends, lovers, whatever, all that matters is that they are fun background characters, and Lyra is getting a toy...so yeah. makes me wonder if Bon-Bon will ever get that lucky. Another Thing worth mentioning though is that Archie Comics a well known all-ages comic publisher introduced an openly gay character into the series not to long ago, and while met with controversy it didn't really do any big damage to Archie overall. So if MLP did want to make Lyra & Bon Bon (or Pinkie & Dash) a couple I don't think it would be end of the world style controversy, but it would cause a stink for abit. Personally I don't really care any way as I am not much of a fan of romance of any kind (cept when its cute) But yeah I would give them major props for having the Juevos to do something like that. They most likely never will. but would be something pretty interesting to see I guess.
