Off ponychan You sure the anti-bot protection is keeping bots off and not people who legitimately want to use the site? Also about requiring registration for downloading, is that really necessary?
I doubt 200 people would have joined the site in the last two weeks and those few who have joined and posted seem to have no problem, the downloads isn't necessary but it's a nice incentive If the guy could give us any errors he's receiving when registering I can take a look at the bot protection on the off-chance.
Warrior of Equestria was trying to invite a friend on who was blocked by the bot protection, it's been shown to keep bots off the site but it also seems to occasionally block non-bots too. It works off a list of IP's right? It's not all that odd for multiple people to share the same IP based on where they live, so there appears to be a problem with this that blocks some people accidentally. Is there anything you can tweak to prevent the chance of this happening? Maybe you should try asking a few trivia type questions that are fairly easy (just multiple choice questions) that anyone joining the site would know to keep bots off, it's a fairly simple system that seems to work.
We have IP blocking? That's a really bad idea to block somepony because of IP, we just need the questions, which is extremely rare when a bot will get it right.
It doesn't block IPs - It checks IPs against a database of known spammers etc. For all you know your friend pratted around on a different forum and got banned and reported to said database. But yes I am looking into it!! EDIT: I've reconfigured the current system to only check usernames and emails against the database and installed an additional 'random question' product that will ask things like... 'Her name is pinkie...'? and the answer is , yeah you got it? Tell me if your still having problems.
Technically speaking it checks IP's and denies registration if it finds a match, I could have it block/upload them to the database but I don't.
OMG GREY!!! What's with the brainteaser as a question? :derpe: I wonder how many people it's blocked that have tried to join and weren't spammers...
Well 2 known examples so far It's not all that odd to share an IP address with someone else. Like for example an entire dorm in college could be running off the same IP
Well like I said it's not blocking IPs anymore and if people don't know that about ponies - cruelly I don't really want them joining either
Well... What if they watch the show, but don't know how to spell their names? Like... For the longest I thought it was Pinky, not Pinkie. And based off of that... I'd wonder if Pie is spelled like Py or Pi... :derpe:
