Okay, the term pegasister confuses me. Is is hated? If I am a girl and I like MLP FiM then I should be called a pegasister or a Brony? I prefer the term brony but then it is difficult to determine what gender you are unless you put (f) or (m) on it, but then I widely see bronies as only males....Is it designated by gender or personal preference?
Well, yes and no. You can some people don't like to be called it because its different. Its up to the person if they want to use pegasister or brony. I could really care less personally.
From what I've read, most Bronies that dislike the term "Pegasister" dislike it because it's a gender-specific term. They feel that Bronies should all be united, rather than separating themselves based on gender, race, religion, etc.
Don't worry about it. Labels are dumb anyways imo. Call yourself whatever you want to. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
Ohkay. Thanks guys. I believe that I may stick with Brony because I am not particularly fond the term pegasister although it is rather clever.
I think it's like whether a female should be called 'an Actor' or 'an Actress'. It depends on preference. Also, your avatar pic is awesome. I love Pikachus!
Haha, Thanks. When I saw the pic I flipped out because it was so awesome and cute. And it had to be my avatar.
It's entirely up to you what labels you want to apply to yourself. For example, I'm neither a brony nor a pegasister because I think both of those words are utterly stupid. I think most people who thoroughly dislike the pegasister label do so because brony is all-encompassing genderwise, but pegasister is a label specifically for female bronies, which kind of implies that male is the default and female is the deviation from the default. But, you know, whatever you feel comfortable with. It's really nobody's decision but your own.
Whether you're a male, female or talking cat wearing a monocle and tophat...you can call yourself whatever you want to. Some people dislike all the different labels and consider themselves to be just a fan of the show... nothing more, nothing less. The same way a lot of people listen to Lady Gaga but don't refer to themselves as "monsters" or whatever the heck she calls her fans. So it's all up to you what you decide to label yourself as, if anything at all. As for me, I think both "brony" and "pegasister" sound equally dumb and corny, therefore I just consider myself a fan of the show.
I could care less, It reminds of the whole "LGBT not GLBT" thing. I don't care what someone calls themselves, as long as they don't try to force it on me.
Oh, okay. Personally I don't care if someone calls me a Brony or if they consider me just a fan of MLP, as long as they don't judge what I like and don't try to convince me to stop.
All ya all got all philosophical on this, but the reality is people like labels and will use them. "Brony" is a male fan of the show and "Pegasister" is a female fan. I don't see anything sexist about "Pegasister". That's like saying calling someone a woman rather than a man is sexist because it's differentiating between male and female, which is just stupid. We have different names for different things because they are different, and different does not mean inferior or superior or default or deviation. It just means different. Now, certainly, the term can be used in a way that IMPLIES superiority or inferiority, and it may have the negative CONNOTATION of implying such things, but the term itself does not imply that, thank you muchly. End possibly misconstrued rant on my feelings on the subject! Anyways, in response to the original question, I feel like it would be easier if girls were pegasisters and males were bronies, but I'm sure people out there will object to that simple system for some reason or another, so, in the end it doesn't really matter because we will never have closure on this issue. Call yourself whatever you want.
Nobody said anything about superiority and inferiority. But while brony is certainly widely used as "a male mlp fan", it is also widely used as "an mlp fan". Pegasister, however, exclusively refers to female fans. All I said it that some people have a problem with the term "pegasister" for this reason. As for my personal feelings, I think Frost summed them up the best.
Okay...well, could you please explain to me what the problem is supposed to be here? Cauuuse, I don't see one...
I don't like to be called a pegasister. I don't believe in a gender specific titles. I feel like the term pegasister, being used just for women, allows for the few jerks from the fandom to be a-holes to the people they know to be women online. I've gotten harassed many times in other fandoms for being female, so much so that I try and keep my gender secret unless I feel comfortable in a forum. So when I hear of a term used merely to indicate that I am a female fan, no matter how benign is may seem, I just remember how many times I've had guys on a forum realize I was female and all of a sudden turn decent conversations to 'tits or gtfo' or start sending me pictures of their dicks and I think 'what the hell happened, we were having such a nice conversation till he found out I was female'. This is just my personal feeling on being called a pegasister. I don't care if anyone else wants to use the term, but I don't feel comfortable with it. I want to feel equal, not like an anomaly.
