So as you all know by now I make PMVs and before ponies I was making music videos for video game remixes for over a year. I am aiming to build my resume for a hopeful video editing career after I finish school, where I am studying film making.

Anyway I recently submitted my Rainbow Factory PMV to EQD and it was featured.

but from the comments it was actually liked a lot less then this PMV of Way Back Home, even as a huge fan of this song, I found the PMV of it dull and boring, I mean they didn't even make it black & white to suit the time period and there was almost no lip syncing.

This is far from the first time this has happened. My other PMVs nearly got rejected in favour of talentless crap, because Sethisto also likes these better for some reason. I had to nag him with a few messages to get them featured and then ironically my least effort PMV Winter Wrap Up ElectroPop remix, was exclaimed by many bronies to have 'saved this post', compared to the other crap that accompanied it in the post.

What do you guy prefer, professionally edited music videos like I do, where keyframes are used to make nearly everything in the video interact with the music and effort is made to make the characters look like they are singing the lyrics and the footage used is a relevant as possible to what the song is about.

Or do you prefer simple clips shows with footage that are somewhat relevant to the lyrics? Here is an example of a terrible PMV for a great song that is considered good for some reason.

Sure Fluttershy makes anything 20% cuter, but this is a clip show, not a music video. Might as well slideshow cute pictures of Fluttershy during the song, in fact I think I would prefer to watch that.

This just annoys me because I'm starting to think I could release 10 crappy effortless PMVs for every one good one I release and get 10 times more views and appreciation from people who clearly don't know the work that goes into video editing.

But don't worry this won't happen because my PMVs are mostly an exercise of fun first, then improving my skills, then online attention, then building my resume.

I have nothing against people who make crappy videos due to lack of professional software or hardware or lack of experience. But I do not appreciate them getting more love then someone who takes video making seriously and professionally.

Hmm, maybe Sethisto either knows the creators of the other PMVs, or he has his own tastes which differ from yours... likely to be both actually.
And also, your videos are popular at least... just more hardcore Brony in my opinion.
But you should also remember that while other's PMVs may become more popular, it can also be because of their uploading more PMVs... but eventually you'll have the upper hand if your videos are obviously better.
I would like to add though... maybe you shouldn't judge other PMVs so harshly, as it could lead to others seeing you as a bad sport. You PMVs are great, really, but you simply haven't had enough exposure to gain a large amount of views per video. However, as you make great PMVs and all, you should be able to get a fairly large amount of views per video after a while, once you have enough PMVs out there on youtube and EPR and the sort.
Also note that Sethisto probably chose the other two (which, I'll admit are cute PMVs) because they were more mainstream when released on EQD, but that in the end, neither had an original song... something that makes your PMVs special, and that will be recognised, eventually.
Good luck getting Sethisto to post your songs anyways, your PMVs are awesome!
(and, if you had been on EPR during the show with Foxy and Flash, you'd see that your song was requested to be played at the end)
