Community Post #110

I was sifting through some images for the Community Post this evening and I sat down and thought as I looked at the thing I settled on, which is sitting above...

I haven't given a damn about mainstream music in over five years. The last 'mainstream', 'Top 40' act I've listened to at any length is Gotye, up there.

Wow! How did that happen? I remember it being this massive thing when I was growing up. The charts were everywhere! I'd hear about some tune somewhere or that something was climbing the charts. Heck, I'd always hear a selection of the most popular songs over and over and over. Because as soon as phones could play music, then you couldn't move for this stuff.

And that's not counting whenever we managed to fill a jar with pasta in school and were rewarded with a party. You see, if the class was all good, we'd get to add pasta to a jar. If it was filled, then we'd get a party. Well, we'd get to bring in food, put on some music and have an extra large lunch while we battled Pokemon/Beyblade/Yu-Gi-Oh Decks.

Yes, my school was odd. But not as odd as British Pop. I don't claim to know much about this stuff but...Dang it, why not? It spreads a touch of cultural knowledge while maybe giving a little bit of a giggle.

So, first of, on what is indelibly imprinted on my brain as a result of the British Top 40 charts is the JCB Song. We're starting off with something rather Love it/Hate it here to ease you in. Some love the happy memories of a song written from the point of view of a happy little cherub sitting in a digger. Some hate it because of it's overtly twee and patronisingly cute lyrics. Some just don't like White Guys with Acoustic Guitars. I'm on the fence because if it's good enough for Goldilocks, it's good enough for me.

Next from what I can pull from the hazy mess of memories I have, how about a song that will make you want to wish for bleaching agents for your ears. 'The Cartoons' are a technobilly/glam pop band from Denmark that managed to spread yet another case of Earworm with their cover of 'The Witch Doctor' in 1998. This one is clearly for kids, I get that, but good lord, what is it about Technobilly that's both irritating and incredibly catchy?! 'Cotton Eye Joe' is likely playing in your mind's eye just by the fact that I mentioned it just then. This is no bloody different. AND IT WAS EVERYWHERE!

But that's intended as a bit of fun. It's incredibly, incredibly, incredibly annoying to the usually mildly glum and rain-soaked people of England where we run after cheese rolling down hills and wage small battles over whether cream goes on a scone before the jam.

This...This unholy and transparent piece of trash is not only an infuriating earworm but also a blatant attempt to ensure that Fast Food is within the minds of every child across the land. Even though it generally already is a permanent thought rolling around and around in their mind.

June 2003 was a horrible time to be in school. All that pasta and now the Pasta Party 2003 is ruined because we're all chanting lines from this song as if we've become drones from that 1984 Apple Advert! Where's our woman with a sledgehammer to come save us?! WHERE?!

Anyway, enough of silly, silly songs that scared my past but where thankfully trapped on this island. How about them news items?

Listened to all three songs in this CP? How about rinsing that out of your brain with some decent Brony music. Remember, we have a request function for just such an occasion.

Of course...I wouldn't be so devious as to choose this week's theme to tie into this. Oh not at all...EH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HAAAAA! *thunder and lighting*

Oh! We still have that? Neat!

Item number one is the tale of Galactic Toast breaking her arm and screaming. I really can only guess what that must be like.

Another tragic and painful experience is documented here by Scarecrow. I morn for your loss, I truely do.

Plus, that cartoon at the start is hilarious.

If pretty pictures are what your after, how about a little from Echoax? The latest I could find has this imposing picture of Shining Armour looking off into the distance. What he's looking at? I don't know. I like to think it's the sunset and he's actually on a boat somewhere, riding off to...save the world, maybe? Or ensure the earth ponies of...Ponidonia have potatoes or their way of life will perish.

...I start Chapter 1 of the fic tonight. I'll be huge!

Guess who's back? Yes, that perennial Community Post regular: Simon, joining people like Yamiookami and Rockout who keep doing stuff that's worth adding to this thing. This week's bug from South Africa is The Wall Crab Spider. Whovians may enjoy this one, arachnophobes will not.

    As per usual.

Meanwhile, Rarit E is discovering a small part of why Final Fantasy X is reviled. As if he needed that when there's Wakka's hair, the loopy plot and not enough Auron in, like, everything. You shouldn't get items in every chest, you should get another Auron. Kingdom Hearts II had the right idea. They already had Hades. You know what they did?

    Auron is badass!

GUYS! You might have heard about Studio Ghibli being canned after the retirement of Hayao Miyazaki. This is false according to Yami, as the initial report was part of a translation error. So, relax. Just spreading the word.

Wondering about whether to go see the new Marvel movie? Man, they've been pretty fun so far...Well, there's a small spoiler about the scene after the credits that kinda, sorta chilled me to my damn core from newcomer Airship McHoof.

For those that know what I'm talking about, I cannot believe that is coming back in any capacity...That's a joke, right?! RIGHT?! The George Lucas movie is still around, you know!

And finally...OK, I know, I know...I'm pushing my own stuff again but I was pretty pleased with this over written OOC Sign up Thread but it brings me on to a point...

You know you can recommend things for here right? Like RP's you want to get going. Let us know! We can get people looking at least. Just a thought.

Anyway, I leave you in peace now, having spread some facepalm moments and general knowledge about what to do here. I hope it's been fun.

Oh! And if your interested in looking at UK only bad music, do not Google 'Jedwood'. Simply do not. If you think the acts I've shown you in this post are awful or you think that the music in your country is worse, think again!

Don't! It's not reverse psychology, it's roughly the same kind of advice people in the Gremlin movies should be adhering to. I'm saving you the trouble. Do. Not. Google. Jedwood.

Indeed! You going through all that jumble of mushed together questions, nice work!

Also, listen to the Shoutcast! Despite the neigh-sayers, the new songs are really good! Imagine all the artists you used to listen to, but now with production values! And a good mix of styles in there as well, remember to request your songs here too!

Despite all the cheesy and unnessecary "looking at the camera and expecting you to have handsome, glimmering anime eyes" and the supposedly passionate hand motions of grabbing the chest and grabbing something else in the air and pulling it towards you, I kinda liked that song. The lyrics were pretty good, and the tune and beat almost reached into the category of me never wanting to stop singing it because it was so catchy. Almost.

I usually like to stay positive about some things like this because there's too much negativity in the world. Either that or I've been brainwashed or a bug inserted into my brain or something related to that by someone. Somebody may have to run some tests on me in the Chat.

Wait... I think there was supposed to be more chaos in my reaction. Maybe I should look up Jedwood?...
    ...
I think I have cancer now.

Edit: PS: oh my yay! My blog post was the first listed! Thank u!~<3
