I know, I know! I'm getting slower and slower making these things but I always want to make sure I got something good to talk about on these things. I know that they have other functions too but my life has had shifts that I'm still adjusting to. I work full time now and that's still weird. Like, seriously weird to me. I've spent years sitting around according to my own schedule that writing these was easy. Now, I'm a little more cramped as I got deadlines but still, I'll get right on it. Even then, you know you can submit a Post article too, right? Anyway... Community Post #137 I saw the picture, I couldn't resist, OK? Anyway, that line is taken from one of the most famous and well loved video games in the entire world and, you know what, up until about last year, that's all I did. I just played computer games. I tried to build them too but mainly, I played the hell out of them. Now, that's not changed but the type of games I'll play have had something of a shift. Sure, I love my computer games and nothing will dissuade me there but I'd never thought I'd start going to the tabletop! Card games have now gained such a footing in my little world that I have more decks of cards than games for some of the systems I own. I'm pretty avid for my MLP:CCG. Heck! I made a small slant of my review blog dedicated to them. Which, we'll get to in a bit. And now? Well...I did it. I delved even deeper into this world of die, tokens and endless rulesets that the Tabletop has and went to play one of the oldest Tabletop games ever. And arguably, the most infamous, well known and ubiquitous. I played Dungeons and Dragons for the first time. Yeah, yeah...Like a steep slope. I enjoyed the heck out of it but I can totally see myself in the mock suit of armour, holding a sword aloft for realism and to get into the mindset of my character. I'd likely buy mead or ale, learning songs in dwarvish as well as 'common' because my character must have picked up a few here and there. I'm looking forward to the day that I'm locked up because I insisted that McDonalds take the gold coin I'm thrusting on them and drew a broadsword in the argument. And then me and my new friends would quest all day long until the Orderlies catch us. OK, in all seriousness, I think I enjoyed my time so far is because to become my character, I'd also likely have to don a long, purple wig with large curls framing my face. This is because my character happened to be almost entirely based on Rarity from MLP:FiM. The reason is because I wanted to try out the game. My friends had started playing and it seemed like an ideal thing so, sure, why not? I roleplay on forums, I can roleplay in other venues. Should be a synch. Plus, I like trying to find excuses to attempt voice acting. This could be perfect! So, I grab one of the pre-made character sheets. The starter set we were using comes with a collection of premade characters. They're all there to give an idea of how a character could be created. They came with a simple back story, list of traits and some extra bits here and there. Simple but a good player could make them interesting, I'm sure. They're intended to just give a flavour without being bogged down too much within the fine details of making characters. Believe me: that's complicated. The books required while lovely and glossy, are hefty enough to bludgeon someone. And there's one for character's and their classes, items, dungeon master details, magic spells. The amount of information is pretty staggering. It makes it a slow game unless you know all this stuff off by heart. You just know that Twilight would be all over a game like this if it existed in Equestria. According to the comics, her brother played it in high school so maybe he could pass it on? Now, my other party members had chosen characters that were built more for magic casting. While powerful in their own right, they needed a close combat fighter. They needed someone to deal physical damage and generally kick arse, taking names was optional. That, was going to be me. The only character sheet that seemed to fit that criteria was a Level 1 Fighter that, and I kid you not, hated to get dirty, was of noble blood so was expected to carry themselves with a sense of decorum, had decent Persuasion skills, was able to use their status as a noble to parlay favourable treatment, always desired first class accommodation anywhere they went and could ask to see elected officials anytime they wanted. This was a fighter everyfighter should know! In my mind, this was Rarity in another form. And I named and played her as such. Now, I'm still learning and there's always going to be differences in my interpretation over others but Rarity Thoril, as she was eventually called because I couldn't think of a better first name, did dreadfully in her first ever outing. "So, we start the pub crawl here and work our way around like this so that were always near a privy if needs be." I just wasn't rolling very well. I was landing crap hits, got next to dead last in Initiative Checks and only managing to pass some stuff because I had little bonuses here and there. I was getting pummeled. At one point, I accidentally chopped through a horse trying to kill a goblin. Another time, I stuffed up a javelin throw, only grazing another goblin's shoulder. My friend, who was playing an eccentric mage called Sparkleduck, managed to kill an entire bridge of goblins with one spell, apparently they all seemed to explode in the area effect damage. Yeah, our DM sometimes grows a little impatient and tries to ensure we get through our campaign. He wasn't been too unfair in doing that as we had a party of four and the part we were playing assumed there'd be at least 5 playing. Anyway, I loved playing Rarity. I'm not sure why but I liked attempting to adapt the character while adding in little character moments in-between at the little events. One was trying to work in that Rarity found it hard to pass up opportunities to gain gold. She'd always be looking for more loot or ready to take on a task but not to cheat anyone out of it. So, none of this! I'm supposed to be a good girl. Or 'lawful' at least... After all, she was lawful neutral. Plus, the gold wasn't for herself but for Phandarin, a place she had vowed to improve by earning money as an adventurer. It had fallen on hard times after Orc attacks. Her own estate she stood to inherit was obliterated by a volcano so, she didn't have much to her name. Rarity would have to work for a living. Other things liked a dislike for dirt translated out to occationally checking her ornate Greataxe for damage or stains after use. This axe was supposed to be her only family heirloom so...kinda important. Heck, smashing through enemies could be something I didn't want to do all the time, just incase I broke said axe. One of my favourite parts was my first attempt at shopping. I rolled a natural 1, which would usually translate out to an abject faliure. This resulted in an exchange where a salesman attempted to sell me a sword. "Ah! Yes, it's an increadible sword of magical quality. It can burst into flame if you say the magic phrase." He said, holding up the blade while his eyes attempted to convey the wonderment by remaining as wide open as possible. It seemed more like he was about to burst than a sales pitch. "Could I see it catch fire for myself?" Rarity asks, interested but sceptical. "Ah! No. For you see, the phrase is different for each user and I do not know what mine is. In fact, I have no idea how you would discover your own phrase but for 25 gold pieces, you can attempt to find out!" Rarity, clearly not buying the BS anymore replies with: "Let me get this straight: if I brought this weapon, you expect me to use it while shouting nonsense words at it in the vain hope it will do something?" "Yes! And for only 25 gold!" The sword was not brought. And I notice I'm saying 'I' instead of 'She' alot...Eh, maybe it's the mindset? I don't know. Still, I think I've got the bug now. I try and meet up with my group as often as I can. Rarity has reached level 3 and, if you'd like, I can tell you more of her adventures as I play. In the current area, she'd kicked a door open and trapped a guy behind it. One of the other guards say: "I love a girl that can fight." Well, I had to retort with: "And I like a man that can fight but seeing as there's none here..." Then Rarity shunts into the door, crushing the guy behind it into the wall even harder. Any takers? Also, am I the only person to make Rarity a Fighter? Everyone else has her as a magic class, it seems. That was awesome. I dunno how long until I'm as bad as Tom Hanks in Mazes and Monsters but as this rate, it should be within a month. What? Dungeons and Dragons is a far-out game! - Site News Well, I got my finger out and fixed a few things. - Emails are now sorted. You can contact us via Email at 'Contact@Everypony.com'. Plus, S.P.I.K.E has been given his own Email and will send you emails about the site for various reasons. Which is good of him. - Overlays now have a white background, making them easier to work with instead of the awkward and hard to see transparency. - The chat has been given back it's three channels that can be switched between at the push of a button. Our channels on the chat are, as before; 'General', 'Roleplay' and 'Casual Roleplay'. Just click the button to switch between each one. It's as simple as that. - The chat now sits on the Radio page where the Livestream chat is. We're thinking of merging the two pages together and doing up that bit. Tell us what you think. We're also considering switching to Twitch over Livestream in future. I'd like to hear what you think on that too. The shoutcast radio will be back but that'll take a little setting back up as we need to figure out how to host it ourselves. Yep. Ourselves. We think we can manage it too... - Recommended Reading So, this was a cool thread. It's all about obscure cartoons which is up my alley. I do like poking around for things no one has ever seen. Like...I dunno, that Bubsy cartoon or The Misadventures of Flapjack. That's kinda obscure around here, as far as I know. Still, I did see this thread that genuinely made me feel a little smarter for seeing it. A little thread containing philosophical phrases or insights is always fun. Heck, it even sites Yoda for a quote. You know they're all business in that thread. My favourite is this one: Very true. Is there anyone looking to use their artistic talents to help a pony in need? Well, Diamondium came to us looking for an artist to help decorate the soon to be resurrected 'Everypony Sings'. Now, that's not a karaoke spin off of this site but a popular place that had lyrics, piano sheets, guitar tabs and other bits and pieces for the various songs of the show. It's sad to see a valuable resource go so bringing it back would be great! Ever wanted to see Eight Star square off against Twilight Sparkle? Really? Well, this is for you and your oddly specific requests. Speaking of Eight Star, I heard that his own Tabletop game system Timewarp Vortex released it's first starter campaign a while back. It's been developed by Eight Star himself so, if your in to that, consider giving him a poke. Or your money, one or the other. Man, some of your collections look awesome. Just sayin'... I've never been too patial to this but relatively new member Toxic Mint has revealed a youtube channel he works with that produces MLP reaction videos. Maybe it's your thing? I don't know. Ready for complex details about strategy and how each type boils down? Good, because Dilly has you there with the last part of the Magic: The Gathering beginners guide. To me, this is kinda fascinating but remember, I am weird. I turned down the opportunity to shout random words at a sword in the hope it would catch fire. Who wouldn't want that? Finally, the reviews. In light of the patently ridiculous Terminator: Jennysis or whatever it's called, Morphin' is taking us back to a simpler time when there was only one movie: the 1984 film 'The Terminator'. Back when there was only one film, one plot and one Arnold. Next, I did a review of the over the top but excellent Kill La Kill as well as relax and review a few submitted MLP:CCG decks in the first ever Deck Doctor. I put the number there because I knew I'd do another one. And it reminded me: I need to do fan fiction again. I started out writing about fan fiction and it was so, so much fun. I should totally try that again, I think...Hmm... Lastly, Tommyspud talks about the new series of Battlebots. Considering that I loved the Brittish version, this only makes me jealous that America get's robot fighting action and yet, we don't! Bah! I'm so mad, I'm ending things here. Where's my broadsword? We need to end this!
I'd love to. Maybe I could talk to the guys and see... Yes. I for one welcome our new Post-Based Overlords. It definitely is. Who else is going to think of things that would tie other people's brains into a pretzel knot?
I have to actually put up the reviews for Episodes 2, 3, and 4 of Battlebots, haha. I've been a bit lazy in that regard.
