I think this could be a useful thread for those that draw. Pretty simple, you post a picture and others critique it. I'd like to start it off with one of my own drawings. Spoiler: Thing to critique
If I'm honest I think you tried too hard on the Mane. The ear looks a bit like an elf too. Spoiler: critique View attachment 4939
I think the eyes are just a little off. I can't quite place it. his right dragon leg seems a little off as well, I think it needs to be a little skinnier.
I have one to ask for critique on.. though I already know some of the flaws. Mine is also of Discord, but it's a figure. That was taken at school. You can see my roommate's side of the room.. so now I'm thinking I should find a way to smudge it out.
Looks great. The only issue that I can see from the picture is he might need to be skinnier. Like in the body. It's hard to tell, my phone doesn't let me see pictures so well. Sorry. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
I'm glad you like it Echoax, his body is kind of squished,I know that. I kind of had to lean parts against eachother while making it. I started working on early night and finished in the middle of the night. I then ran to my friends on campus apartment and bugged him to bake it for me so it wouldn't fall apart. lol.
I'm not the best at judging figure things. Seeing as the only thing I do is drawing. If SP rocket were here he'd be a much bigger help then me. from my Palm Pre using Forums[/i]
This thread needs much more activity. Getting critiques on dA is way too far and in between, and most people on EPN I suspect are too polite to give critiques on people's art threads. I'll post my most recent work, since I haven't drawn anything new in awhile. Just been too busy. Critique away. I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread and be more involved from this point forward. I think this thread is sorely needed. Great idea Echo.
@Echoax: The right eye on the right side of it near the pointed part, I think the outline is pushed out a tad too much, just pull it back JUST a hair is the only thing I'd say. @kioku: I'm horrible with clay figures and sculptures so I can't really offer any advice or critique. @Frost: Looks good to me, only things I would point out is to practice drawing straight lines and drawing letters. The straight lines on the guitar look sketchy at best but its something you can easily fix; though to be fair, drawing straight lines is one of the hardest things to do. The way I draw straight lines is I push my pencil down and then pull the paper down in a single direction, while keeping the pencil still, then it pretty much promises a straight line(unless your doing like a straight like over 6 inches long). With the lettering, try adding guidelines before you draw your letters so you can keep them all pretty much the same size; If your looking for an example of what I mean, try looking up the way that drafters(people who draw blueprints) write their letters. I took 2 years of drafting and it helped me so much with making my lettering look consistent.
Thank you, I'm glad some other people finally found this. I think the right arm looks fine, my only issue with this drawing is the guitar, not the guitar it's self. I'm not a fan of human things in the pony world. I'm bad at explaining so I just red lined it the best I could. I really hope it helps. The bottom Dash looks perfectly fine, I didn't bother going over it. Spoiler: Overlay Spoiler: Redline by it's self If you want I can do a better red line. I wasn't really in the art mood when I made this.
Thanks for the critique guys. I know the top RBD is off-model, I was trying to draw an album cover I saw on EPR and it switched to a different picture about 30 seconds after I started drawing, so I kinda had to wing the rest. The top RBD with the guitar was the entirety of the original drawing, everything else was added on later and I actually took my time with it, which is why it looks better. Pseudo you're definitely correct about both the lettering and the lack of straightness with the guitar. I shoulda taken a bit more time to lay everything out right, but I got lazy >.< That's something I really gotta focus on, is not being lazy, taking my time and getting everything laid out right beforehand. And Echo, wow. Very helpful correction you made. Taking the time to respond like that was very unexpected but very appreciated. Your proportion and form is definitely much better than how I laid it out. Much thanks to you both.
I didn't make the thread for fun. My goal was to help, so I'll do the little extra bit to achieve that.
No problem Frost I know all about getting lazy with the lettering and the lines, especially near the end of it. I listen to whatever pops up on my pandora radio when I'm drawing to focus so may wanna try listening to some music; Just watch it, start drawing with soft music and end drawing with something hard or mind loosing can get you some...lets say "interesting" results.
I typically listen to music while I draw actually, although I just end up tuning it out. That whole "right brain" thing.
I hear people say that music help them draw. I wish I knew how that worked. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
Its the whole right brain thing; Make you use less of your left brain and more of your right brain while the music is going.
I don't think music really helps the drawing process, once you're underway and in R mode your brain tunes it out anyway. I just listen to music cuz it inspires me sometimes, but mostly to tune out the TV in the living room that my dad watches at 160 decibels. :derpe: Hmm...I know there are plenty of other artists on this site, so where are they?
I listen to everything while I draw. Comedians, music, vlogs, LPs and everything else. I few songs have inspired me to draw things, but I've never followed up on them. I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say they don't care. It's like this all over the site, oh well, the threads here if they want help.
I'll post a "art" here once I have one ready :derpe: I have not forgotten this thread and intend to make use of it :derpe: Edit: Such as now. Spoiler: please critique View attachment 5281
