OK this may be a thread already, but I didn't see one and I'm super new and getting to know everyone anyway. So fresh topic, otherwise I'm sure a friendly neighborhood mod will come and merge. So if Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom, and Scootaloo came to your door and, with wide shining eyes, asked you how you got your cutie mark, what would you tell them? Responses can be real or from your OC pony's backstory, just let us know which one you choose My Cutie mark is of a quill, ink, and scroll and is inspired by real life. This is becuase my special talent is writing. I really discovered in quite a bit later than pony puberty becuase everyone around me was always telling me to forget writing and draw instead (I'm a good artist, but it just doesn't make me feel the same passion as I feel when writing). Despite this, I've always been well spoken, love learning about languages, and later found that I really, REALLY love writing in all its forms. This is why my cutie mark specifically centers around writing and not drawing. How about you all?
well, I really don't know my special talent yet, but I am a good singer, not a passion though. I'm also good with computer and spoken languages. I really don't have a cutie mark yet, but I will find out soon (hopefully). Oh, I also am good at impersonations.
hmmmm cant really speak for my self as i have no cutie mark but i can speek for my oc ponys in my fanfic 1: for being a Aquarius 2: for being a Libra 3: for being a Pisces read the fanfic if you want those explanations to make sence >.>
Hmm... well my primary OC, Lance, doesn't have a cutie mark. From the moment he was discovered passed out in the middle of the Everfree Forest by Luna to the time when he was sent to settle Alicorn's Horn as a part of a sort of exploration project by the same princess, he never got a cutie mark, despite his obvious talents as a leader and healer. Many ponies find this odd, and they question his origins. I'll record my other OC's cutie mark stories a bit later.
I don't really have any career path. I associate my cutie mark picture with my ability to analyze people to a manipulation or "power of suggestion" stand point. It's an ability I rarely use, though, so it's more building better friendships. I like writing, but I don't have a deep technical education in it. I've always just excelled in the subjects and do want to study more. However, I don't feel I can step up to the challenge of writing a novel, or a series. Fanfiction writing is a hobby at the moment. I've garnered nice pool of readers and I'm very happy with that.
Mine is pretty simple. It's just a golden horseshoe with wings. It's a ponyfied version of the international cross country symbol; which is a winged shoe. People often associate XC with high levels of stamina and that's what I'm good at. I had exceptional stamina before I even started running. Now, I just feel supercharged. The CM is the same as my OC for the same reason, but different occurrences.
I never use my OC. As for my human form, I got my cutie mark of POWER by seeing that my German teacher replaced some 'in's with 'im's, and I was curious as to how this worked. So I went on Google and LOLLANGUAGES.
well for my OC his cutie mark is part of his cover up he is actually the runaway prince of the old kingdom as for mine it would probably be a fist because I love to fight though usually in the form of a friendly spar I have been in a few real fights I make it a point not to start them and avoid them all together if possible but if it comes down to it I try not to cause to much harm just enough to make them give up
This is how I got mine: My mother gave birth to me and I spent my childhood in the western side of the largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania: Philadelphia. For the majority of my time I could be found playing in the recreational area. I was just feeling at ease, composing myself, letting go of myself. I also used to enjoy playing the fun sport which goes by the name basketball when I was not at my local educational establishment. But then one day a small group of young men, who where performing atrocious acts, began to disturb our local residential area. I took part in one small affray and my mom got scared she said you're moving with your Auntie and Uncle in Bel-Air. True story.
I'm assuming that if the CMC areat my door asking me how I got my cutie mark, then we're talking about me as a pony. Story-craft has alwasy been something I've been interested in, so I assume my cutie mark would be related, probably focused on words since that's the main way I can express myself. So, how and when did I get it? Actually, I remember the moment I said "Sooner or later, through damnation or praise, I will become a writer". It was when I found out one of the worst pieces I'd ever written wasn't crap. See, I wrote a small fiction piece based in a game called Changeling The Lost(Which is still my absolute favorite game, but I digress) back in October of 2007 one night. I had made a commitment to myself that I would submit a piece to White Wolf's eQuarterly, their web magazine, and it was going to be about Changeling because it was new and I loved it with a passion. That one night I had gone with my friend on a run for root beer, and it left me pondering on what the drink means to me(at it's worst it's still an amazing drink, at it's best it's a very powerful and personal symbol of friendship). Being the twisted individual I am, I built a story around the idea of a guy ordering root beers for himself but an actual beer for himself. I wrote it up, put it in an e-mail, and sent it off. The next morning, I went I reread what I had wrote. I was mortified. The details are kind of lost on me now(Ship, was that really four years ago?), but everything about it was bad. I could not believe I sent something like that in. I had read many of the short stories in their magazine and found them to be amazing even in their brevity. White Wolf made it clear they made a point of picking stuff that was the best of the bunch, and this impulse inspired drivel just wasn't going to cut it. I deleted it and promptly removed it from my mind. Fast forward to late Spring of 2008. I was preparing for my mission, but I was also taking in the last bits of all things I had enjoyed. One day, I went to White Wolf's homepage where I found that a new magazine had come out. I clicked on it and started looking through the table of contents. I found some awesome stuff for Changeling, Hunter, a couple other games and... Root Beer by [Arcane]? No way. There was no way. I couldn't believe it. I skipped straight to the end, numb and disbelieving. There it was, written in thorny text at the top of the page. Root Beer, by [Arcane Five Word Name Streak]. It was editted some, cleaned up but missing some details, but on the whole, it was mine. Which meant that, against all odds, they had liked it. My little piece of trash had some gold in it. My talent was not purely hypothetical and analytical. I could write, however unrefined I may be, and I could write well enough to slip into a very demanding group of writer's magazine. And I knew I could never tell myself I would never write anything in my life right then and there. I would beg and scream for opinions and advice for years to come, always doubt myself and struggle to do so-but God help me, I would write something to completion some day and get it published. I knew that I could not let that talent go unused. That was when I got my cutie mark, at the age of 19 going on 20. It's been four years since and I'm still refining my skills and struggling against my weaknesses to write something fully. I haven't done it yet, but I'm improving. So, my final messages to them is "Much as you hate to hear it, it can take FOREVER to figure out what you're going to do with your life and find out what your passion is. But it WILL be worth it".
Honestly, I wasn't surprised when my fic got destroyed on Ponychan in its early stages. I had it reviewed three times. After the third, I disagreed with some of the critique and decided to expand my skill on my own. Equestria Daily has turned it down three times (again, early stages), and now I'm cleaning up chapters in preparation for a fourth attempt. You can't let people keep you down for something you enjoy. Even if their harsh thoughts overwhelm you, it should drive you to improve and create something that awes, enamors, and/or captivates them some day. Overcoming and impressing the criticizers is a very empowering feeling. Even if you never please them, please yourself. I'm happy to say that my fic has climbed up to a 4.5 rating with 72 votes and over 15k total views. This is without any significant promotion of it at all. (FiMFic, EPR) I would like to post it on Deviantart at some point, too. As my latest little quote/tagline/motto goes: "Wish the moon; Don't hold back." If you're going to wish, wish for everything and make it happen.
Eh? My cutie mark? it's a butterfly. Unlike Fluttershy though, mine doesn't involve the involvement of a million butterflies saving me from certain death and singing with animals. Notice how it's a darker shade. That's right, my special talent is catching butterflies and putting them on display in glass cases. :>
M..my story? Well then take a seat, your in for the ride of your life! It all began on a cool night, not a single cloud was in the sky as the summer day had came to a close. I was getting tucked into bed by my mom as we all went to get some rest. It felt like a normal day, or was it? That night somepony forgot to put out the fire in the fireplace, and that led to a great fire bursting up in the livingroom! I woke up smelling smoke and slowly trotted downstairs, opening the door, and got blown away from the force! Flames bursting through the doorway and tried to get me, but it must have been instinct that my magic suddenly creates some odd barrier to protect me. Alas I was the only fortunate one in my family, the others had been burned alive. The dawn of a new day was nothing to be happy about, I had lost my family and everything. I searched the ruins and ashes, the only thing I found was my fathers hat, it apparently made it, the very same hat I wear today. I couldn't stand one more moment around that aweful place and left. Fate however had plans for me as I soon encountered the filly MoonGazer, she had run away from home for reasons unknown to me, but her hairstyle told me she was a upper-class pony, possibly from a rich family. We became close friends over the next few hours as we travelled together to a large city, known now as Canterlot. While we we're in the city I would meet my second best friend, SilverBolt. Poor guy was an orphan since birth and now abandoned in the city. The three of us became close friends and helped eachother in every way possible. We made it through the next few days okay, but not great. Then that fateful day came when I heard a scream, it was MoonGazer! So I bolted off to go help her, and all I found was some ponies picking on her. I grew angry with them and tried physically keeping them away, but to no avail. It was at that moment when my magics power was unleashed without my control and I blasted the others away! My horn had created an explosion of sorts in my desperate moment. It wasn't over yet, because as they tried to retaliate, my spell grew in power, once again throwing them back, flying a few feet this time. They learned their lesson and swiftly ran off. But I wasn't able to turn my spell off and once again sent out a pulse of powerful magic. shaking the land with an intense earthquake! The spell got the attention of Princess Celestia herself as she flew down and saw what had happend, She tried helping me but I accidently attacked her, she wasn't budged too much, but it did knock her back. I was so scarred at that moment as I couldn't understand what was happening! Suddenly meteors began showering from the sky! The sight of watching them fly across the sky, bits of a shattered star made a very lovely array of lights and colors. Watching them helped me calm down as I stared. Celestia moved beside me and watched the show, I was to stunned, did I do that? Did I create the meteor shower? I apparently had caused a nova from lack of control. Celestia decided to take me in and adopted me. I was gifted with the power to control the stars and was now a prince of Equestria! I never forgot my friends, and they also lived in the palace with me. Celestia had changed my name to Nova to represent the might I held, like a nova. But I hadn't got my cutie mark yet! I was wondering why, until one night Celestia brought me to the balcony and told me it's time to see if I truly have such a gift. Then it began. I focused all I had and suddenly, a shower appeared across the sky and lit it up! I really was able to contorl the stars! or meteors. Either way I was gifted and worthy of my right as a Prince. But at that moment, when I focused hard, my horn wasn't the only thing that glowed, my flank also did as my cutie mark had appearred! I had never been so happy in my entire life. And since that day, i've lived in canterlot, reknown as one of the greatest unicorns to ever live! And that my little fillies is how you earn a cutie mark!
My Cutie Mark story? Okay, here goes! When I was little, I didn't have many friends. Actually, I didn't have any real friends. I was lonely more and more often as my childhood progressed. I met one really cool friend, but he moved away, so I was back to square one. Around age thirteen, I met one really cool girl. She was lots of fun to be around, and we hung out a few times. At first I had a crush on her, but that changed, and it grew into something else. I didn't see her much for another two years, but then I joined a theatre program, and I got to see her again. After some of the things we had been through, how could I not call her my best friend? We worked together a lot after that, and it was through her that I met most of my other friends. I soon had tons of friends, and always had someone to talk to. I got into tons of clubs, and started meeting new people on my own. But all of those connections could be traced back to my initial bond with this girl, my best friend. We now call each other "BBF's For Life, because Forever wasn't long enough." We've stuck with each other through everything that comes our way. I am proud to call such a brave and kind person my friend. It was after I started to become friends with a greater number of people that my talent came to light. I realized that the thing that was most important to me was love, and that my talent was showing my love for others. I enjoy showcasing this talent through my loyalty to my friends, my willingness to listen, and my ability to be understanding and not judge a friend for something they did. My talent is sharing love, and love is what is most important to me.
Special talent: making snowflakes. I got my cutie mark while it was snowing. Each snow flake looked ragged and something like this:http://school.discoveryeducation.com/clipart/images/snowflk.gif. Of course, every pony was scared at the smiling snowflakes, and I was lazy, so I got on a hot air balloon and made my first snowflake. It looked like this:http://emilysmucker.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/snowflakes.jpg, then I got it as a filly! That was my OC, I guess. Still, it's a mystery if she's a pegasus,Unicorn, or Earth Pony! For the human me, I have a singing cutie mark!http://th04.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE...t_headphone_v3_0_by_kobayashi_kei-d37o6w7.jpg (Sorry for all the links,I don't wanna explain it)
