I have been thinking about the cutie marks that the ponies have. Mostly about Rarity's as she is my favourite pony Do you think that the cutie marks are more detailed than pictured in the series? For example - would Rarity's diamonds look more shaded and life like than we see them? It does make more sense than the cutie marks being in two or maximum three colours that we see them in as that would look bad in bigger sizes marks? Please tell me what you all think - I would be most grateful. /Alakina
Probably not. Maybe a little more in the series, but not by much. It's really hard to compare this to anything real, considering it's a t.v. show about talking, colorful ponies. Most likely there would be a variety of colors, just like how there are tons of eye colors in our world. I suppose cutie marks in general would look like tattoos, so some would be more detailed than others.
It was more of a philosophical question of course as the ponies aren't real I was just thinking about how we view the cutie marks. I for one view them (as they are on the series) as simplified, not "HD" enough for us to see the whole detail and as tattoos just like you said, because they would be too simple for us as tattoos covering as much skin/fur as they do. You could also view them as is, I just wanted some input on how people view the cutie marks (strange idea for a topic I realise that).
Let me put it this way. Friendship is magic is a TV show. What we see... IS ALL THERE IS! Rarity's cutie mark looks exactly how we see it. But... In my opinion, the simplicity of the design is what makes each cutie mark look so cool! the limited colors, the smooth lines, it has a very nice overall effect. Also, your whole "tattoo" theory... :ahh: No... just... no... You DO understand what a cutie mark IS, right? It is a magical symbol that becomes part of a pony's coat when they learn who they are. They are NOT tattoos, and they can NOT be "changed for more detail" by their owners.
As a reply to The Stare Master- I meant that the cutie marks would be mostly like our tattoos if you were to compare them to something in real life. Of course they can't change their marks to be more detailed, I just meant that philosophicaly, asuming the ponies were in fact real, the cutie marks would probably be more detailed than depicted in the series as they look really simple, but maybe that's all there is? It's nice to see some opinions on this.
"philosophicaly" If the ponies were real, they would look like real life ponies. Applejack would be a small, orange, horse with apples on her flank. Rarity would be a small white horse with an odd horn, and diamonds on her flank. Really? Why would we even go there? I don't want to sound like I'm being negative, because I'm not mad... I'm laughing! This a a cartoon! There really is nothing realistic about it! There is no way we could think of it in a "realistic" way without losing the original idea! Also, I stick by what I said. I REALLY like the simplistic design of the cutie marks... And I wouldn't want it any other way! (But if you DO want more detail... I think the the older Gens of My little pony had a LOT more to their cutie marks... :ahh:
