They think the word derpy is offensive to the disabled, because they don't know any better. Derpy is not offensive! Derpy needs the love and support of every true brony worldwide! There is a petition going strong, to convince hasbro that derpy is not offensive and to keep her in the show. Please remember; love and tolerance, not fear and agression. They need to know, WE LOVE DERPY!!! http://img.ponibooru.org/_images/91...lada crying derpy_hooves dinky_hooves sad.png http://th06.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE..._ditzy_doo_vector_by_misterlolrus-d46jlhh.png
indeed, Derpy is one of ma favorite background characters, and I really loved that they named her Derpy. I've written email to hasbro saying that, and that a lot of fans agree with me, and that we like Derpy as she is now in canon and asked them not to change her.
I agree that the way Derpy was portrayed in her one real speaking role (muffins aside) was inappropriate for a show for young children.
actually, Derpy as character (aside Derped eyes), reminds me A LOT like Ed from cartoon Best Ed. Accident probability, kinda silly voice, wanting to help, never knows what went wrong, and clumsy. (Ed was called not intelligent couple times in show), and there was never any problems regarding his character. (even if he was one of 2 main characters of show)
I think the show you're referring to is what we know as Ed, Edd, and Eddie here in the States. The difference between the two shows is demographics. That show was meant for a bit older audience. We can't forget that MLP was created for 3-9 year old girls.
Goofy from Mickey Mouse? Jake the Spider-monkey from My Gym Partner's a Monkey? Laslo from Camp Laslo? All silly characters for shows rated TV Y7 (age 7 and up). Derpy had literally 30 seconds of total speech overall, and it wasn't insulting in anyway. The mentioned characters above talk stupidly all the time, and had seemed to go unnoticed by much negative attention. I believe most of the hate mail was from trolls wanting Derpy removed for their own amusement.
Ed, Edd and Eddy and Best Ed are 2 different shows. Best Ed was made for Europe and Canadian market, so idk if it was ever aired in USA, and Best Ed was made for same demographics (although, generally kids that age, not only girls) as mlp:fim Ed, Edd, Eddy: Best Ed:
Then there's Patrick from Spongebob Squarepants.... I dunno, I think the "well-meaning slightly dim klutz" stock character is pretty common, I don't get why it's just MLP getting it in the neck for having such a character.
Spongebob is not marketed toward the same demographic. I'll have to look into this "Best Ed" show, so I can't comment on it. Derpy, as portrayed in the scene with Rainbow Dash gives the wrong message. It's ableist. That has no place in an ei television show... Then again, MLP gave up that rating to pander to the fans, so...
you ment Lazlo, right? anyway, also: Pig from Skunk Fu, Chowder from Chowder, Chip and Skip in Camp Lazlo (where Edward (one of characters), repeatedly calls them Stupid boneheads.) Chowder specially since he was shown as genuinely not intelligent character. (even so, he became smart in one episode but only due to something stupid he did)
I have to admit that I would prefer a voice more like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTmc7DLOWKA&feature=related Also watch this, I basicly share the opinion of the maker of this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmOxnt215ek&context=C313a7eeADOEgsToPDskKGmsQpxrow2I1y4c8gtvfp You know I have asberger syndrome, which can be considered a mental handicap. And I hate being underestimated because of it. And I don't find Twilight Sparkle offensive even though she have many traits that are typical of our kind. I have to admit, I have grown quite attached to Derpy:derpe:.
Could you tell me when they gave up the ei rating? I'd really like to know when they made that decision. If the Hub were so dead set on making every aspect educational and informative, we might as well just watch Teletubbies instead. That's education folks! Basically my point is that MLP COULD have been just another stupid TV show for toddlers, but it isn't. It's ambitious and is bringing elements that aren't new to television, but haven't been used in children's shows. And it seems to be working just fine. Yes, Lazlo. In nearly every cartoon with humor I've watched in the past 10 years has always had the slightly less intelligent character. I didn't see a problem with it then, still don't see a problem here.
I assume before season two went into production, as the ei watermark disappears between the two seasons.
*Snort* next you'll tell us it's okay for Spike to kiss Rarity but you have a problem with say Fluttershy and Twilight kissing. Yes we get that Derpy is "Special". But consider this. Compared to a real horse she's a freaking genius.
Like it or not mentally handicap people are around us. You can be offended by seeing them, but I think that makes you a worthless person. They should be respected and enjoyed as a normal part of the community. They should not be hidden away where they won't offend anyone. Frankly you people that want to ban Derpy from My Little Pony disgust me. Your an insult to the fandom and an insult to Handicap people everywhere. If you can't love Derpy and handicap people, you should at least tolerate them. Not tell the rest of us that we have to hide them from you so your not offended. Does a character like Derpy belong in a kids show? Very much yes. Kids need to learn to accept those that aren't "normal" and appreciate them for who they are. If you censor characters like Derpy from a kids show, your taking away a very important moral lesson and telling them that it is ok to hate those that are different.
Hmm. Interesting. To be honest I actually didn't notice the ei logo had went away. Another thing to note is that there hasn't been a good letter to Celestia in awhile (Applejack's "letter" does not count). It seems that the show has taken a more comedic approach to its lessons versus stating them in formal letters.
Are you serious????? Do you even know what the word ableist means?? I am upset because a mentally handicapped person (many find that term offensive btw) was portrayed in a way insulting toward neulogically atypical people. It's not ok to portray neurologically atypical people as annoying and always in the way!!! You have completely the wrong idea about my stance on this. If Derpy is going to be "mentally handicapped" she needs to be portrayed in a way that is empowering to neurologically diverse kids not insulting toward them. And she needs to have a name that isn't an insulting slur from SOUTH PARK. her portrayal is completely insensitive.
