CONSPIRACY THEORY[/h] In the Episode "Hearths-Warming Eve", when they declare the land; earth, and raise the Equestrian flag, it has an art of Luna and Celestia on it (We suspect). However, in "The Return of Harmony (Pt. 1)", they say Discord ruled over Equestria, in an eternal state of chaos, before Luna and Celestia overthrew him. So... Does this mean Luna and Celestia were hungry for power? Who's to argue that Discord was a good ruler? Maybe he was just out for revenge, after the Princesses took his kingdom away from him. Were the Princesses in charge of raising and lowering the sun and moon, when Discord was the ruler? Could Discord do that, himself? Maybe the Discord-ed versions, are actually their real forms. Discord could be a good guy. Princesses could be bad guys. Past tense, anyway. I think I just gave the forum new fan-fic ideas... Not bad, me. Not bad...

well having night and day switch every 12 seconds sounds like an issue. I'm also pretty sure plants don't grow with chocolate milk. I suppose that under chaos they could though. having Discord run around causing chaos sounds awful. I'd side with Celestia and Luna.
I'd side with discord, as I have no problems with Sun/day in 12 seconds, I can still get a torch meanwhile it's night.
I think that they only used the current Equestrian flag so that the audience could recognise it as modern Equestria. Celestia and Luna probably didn't even exist then. One theory could be that Discord somehow took over and the princesses overthrew him at a later stage. However, you have given another interesting theory. It would also explain why Celestia bricked it when Discord came back. Eternal chaos does sound like a place where things could thrive. Just look at 4chan.
Well, I have to agree with Echoax here. Discord land may be fun to be in for a week or so, but not really place where you'd want to live, while in Celestia's/Luna's Equestria is nice place to live in. about the flag: Ancient prophecy?
The fact that Nightmare Moon existed proves that the princesses can be evil given the right conditions, but I'm unsure if Discord could ever really be 'good' for Equestria. At least Equestria as it is today, with it's pony inhabitants. That said, who knows what lived in the land before ponies came in, and took it over? Maybe the creatures that used to be there thrived on the chaos that their beloved overlord Discord created for them, and the evil ponies shattered their world when they moved in, and took everything over for themselves. But we don't know, because the show never went into such fine details as to what was there before our pony friends were. It kind of reminds me of the conflict between the native Americans, and the American settlers, where you could use a similar set of arguments for the latter being 'evil'.
