Is there any point to daylight savings? I remember hearing it was for more daylight hours for farmers or some such, but there are lights everywhere these days. Is Daylight Savings needed anymore?

Lights everywhere... except out in the fields, along the roads passing the fields, that sort of thing. The town I live in (technically a "city", but whatever) is effectively surrounded by farmland, hunting grounds, that sort of thing. I've passed through those areas countless times, and I've yet to see lights put up anywhere aside from the major highways, and even then those are rather scarce.

At any rate, I feel that DST is still needed as far as the farmers in Kansas are concerned. I just don't see any way they could get lights up all over the hundreds of square miles of farmland that would provide adequate illumination without getting in the way of active farm equipment. (Besides, has anyone here ever looked up at the night sky away from the city? Without all the lights in the way, the view is awesome.) Having as much sunlight as possible as early as possible is, I feel, the only real option.

No offense to farmer, but we don't they adjust their schedules instead of making the rest off us adjust ours twice a year?

Doesn't work that way, I'm afraid. Farmers in general have some fairly wicked hours---too much to do, not enough time in the day to do it. They need every ounce of daylight they can get. I'm not exactly the best person to ask---I lived in a Detroit suburb on into early adulthood---but I like to think I know that much, at least.

Honestly, I see Lio's point. Daylight Savings was a concept made to benefit farmers strictly. In today's society, that would only need to still remain relevant for the farmers and the companies/stores that regulate produce from farmers. To all others that don't have a green thumb for farming or have jobs that don't require Daylight Savings, it's seems to be more of a burden than a help. I cannot list the number of times my internal alarm clock has been thrown off by Daylight Savings when I sleep.

But off tangents aside, it would honestly help if it were no longer a requirement for people not in the farming business. And with how things are now-a-days, farmers are slowly being ousted for more government regulated farming. So the need for a Daylight Savings Time is less relevant due to that.

Robots don't need to sleep. Good to know since they are going to take over everything soon anyway.

One Rock this is in serious discussion, two, no they aren't. Once they have the ability to leave this planet they are out of here. Humans aren't worth ruling over.

Meh. I can't claim to understand any of that. I just know what I read, what I hear, and what I personally see. But that's okay, since it means I have no need to linger in a serious topic anyway. >^_^<
