Personally I would say no because she's so adorable, but I do see why she could be seen as "offensive".
I'm sorry, but even though I love Derpy, I have to say.... There is already several threads for general Derpy discussion and this.
I had a feeling there would be, but couldn't find any related topics, plus I'm really interested what everybody thinks about Derpy.
I can see how she could possibly be conceived to be offensive to parents of autistic children, seeing as how Ditzy/Derpy was the cause of the trouble at the beginning of "The Last Roundup," and the way her voice was portrayed. (Although I loved her voice to death!) But personally, I find the entire ordeal to be much ado about nothing. Just my opinion.
Doesn't matter too much. Those threads are long dead. Anyway, I don't find her offensive, although I've never cared too much for the background ponies.
I think its harder, that you normally see no disabled people in the tv. In the most tv shows its like there are no disabled on the world. And therefore i think its good to see at least one not perfect looking pony.
No she's supposed to be cute, adorable and funny and she's my favorite background character I could never find Derpy Hooves a.k.a Ditzy Doo offensive.
Yah that's what I was thinking, but parents with children that have disabilities think that they are making fun of the character, therefor making fun of them. I personal don't see.
If I remember correctly, Derpy was an animation error on a background pony. The fans grew to love her so they never ended up changing it.
But its the same thing with being bulky (right word?) Im a little bulky and if you watch movies and series the all make fun of bulky and fat people. They also dont realize that there are deseases which let people have enourmous problem with staying in shape and parents dont complain about that. And if you see derpy its different. She is just still in the series because she is loved. She really is loved.
^ this instead of speaking FOR them let them decide if she is offensive themselves they don't need your help
Also this It seems a LOT of people try to say what THEY think is offensive to others, without even asking those that they think are getting offended. I'm pretty sure South Park did an episode of this kinda thing...
I voted saying, "No, I don't think she's offensive". However, if some people somewhere find her offensive, then technically she is offensive. I think the fact that the majority of Bronies who know Derpy Hooves love her just speaks for the innocent intentions of the animators and fans (even though Derpy was originally an accident, she was not in her later appearances). Technically, someone out there still might have been genuinely offended by that character, either because they misunderstood her or because they simply found the material itself to be offensive. I think we all need to grow thicker skin.
Too bad Rada, you got Dilly instead. :derpe: I can't really agree with you though Dilly. Thinking like that, everything forever is offensive. I understand where the offended parties come from, but I find they're mad about the very concept of having a less-than-all-there character, which I personally find silly. After all, the show portrays her in a positive light. She's not mistreated in any sense of the word. Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2
I do not find her offensive. I think we all just noticed the rage towards her because we were paying close attention when it happened. How many other cartoon characters have been presented in the same light or worse than our beloved Derpy Hooves? I'm not going to list them all, but here's the main one I can think of. Ralph Wiggum. How long has he been a recurring character on the Simpsons? And he has constant speaking lines in a recurring role that flaunts his shortcomings. I do not find him offensive either. But why so much misplaced anger at Ms. Derpy Hooves? /:derpe:
