    Like, Junior Member and such?

    I mean, they're pretty far-spaced. :S

It would be nice if we could get some creative juices flowing and come up with some titles that wouldn't make people rage.

Or just have more bland titles, so we can feel more special.

Or am I just being silly?

Administrators should be able to give members the option to make their own user titles. That would be SO AWESOME! :omg: (and appreciated, ofcourse :p)

I'm not too bothered with titles or rep or anything like that. I post, I contribute, people seem happy with me, I can't ask for much more than that. However, that's not to say everyone else is like that. I can't speak on everyone elses behalf.

I don't care much for the rep system either (most forums seem to abuse it too much). But being able to add a user-specific user title wouldn't be a bad idea, really.

I don't really care that much, though I was disheartened to become a junior member again. At the time, I thought "Why not just have more titles, rather than bump everyone down? :S"

And yes, I do think with that emoticon.

I use it THAT much. :S

I like the rep system when used properly. I wouldn't ever ask people for rep, as I feel it kind of defeats the object. I'm proud that all the reputation I've gained is by people genuinely thinking I deserve it, which is a strange sort of way, is nice to know. However, little crystals can't compare to actual reputation in my humble opinion.
The change in user titles I think was probably due to the site's increase in size. Now that the user base is expected to grow (considering how small it was when I joined), it will seem a bit weird when long term members have the same title as those who have just joined and gone on a posting spree.

I was just thinking about this. And I guess I find being a Junior Member, or Senior Member a little boring. And I thought it would be a little more in keeping with our show to have things like - Cutie Mark Crusader, or Applebucker, Librarian, Cupcake Baker, Weather Maker, Animal Tender, maybe higher ups could be Palace Guards, or something. I dunno, I haven't posted this idea because I was having a hard time coming up with titles.

I'll go and think some more.

I think Mods should assign us titles, just for some laughs...

I think rep is a bit flawed. I mean, look at me. I don't know if I deserve all that but it's nice to know people enjoy what I post. Let's just not get carried away with it...like I've done before...

Hmm, I wouldn't mind having a "Fan-Fiction Moderator" title...it'd make me feel official!

"Lover of Fluttershy" would work too. :p

Well, the site I'm apart of (My profile can show this.) has a system in it to where you can have a custom title, and it shows what your job/rank is. Like I'm a beta tester on there, and my custom title says "Problem? If so, Alt + F4."

Just thought I'd point that out, in case it could come of use for a reference, if needed.

I agree with Dwynter; some sites even have the ability to have custom titles.
Who knows how long it will take to implement though.:Trollestia:

Custom titles would be nice to have, regardless of the fact that I would force myself to have it be OC-Pony related, and being I STILL don't have a career (or name) decided, I wouldn't use it for ages. :D

On another forum where I'm nearing 1100 posts, somewhere around the 400-600 range, I was given a custom title. I didn't realize I even had the option to change it. I wondered if one of the moderators was messing with me since the title in question given to me was the name of a boss that kicked my ass for a long time (then shortly after getting the title, I solo spam him for fun).

If you'd really like to make a suggestion about this, why not take moment and post it the Site Suggestions thread? :)

I agree with this 100%. I once suggested that you, Luprony and DanSze be given official titles so that every member here recognized that you held this position. I also thought that the newer chat mods should have titles showing that as well. Unfortunately, it was never implemented. I don't know why. Maybe the staff didn't think it was a good idea, or they were too busy with other things, or maybe it slipped their minds. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a priority. I did notice that one of my suggestions was implemented, and that was to change the newest DJs titles to "Radio DJ." Maybe it also has something to do with the technical aspects of the implementation— i.e., the "Radio DJ" title already exists so it was easier to change. For now, the only way you'll be recognized as such is if you tell someone, or they happen to check the Forum Leaders list.

I briefly mentioned custom user titles as well. I used to be a member of a forum that allowed custom user titles as soon as the member reached 100 posts.

My thoughts on the current user titles:

If anyone pays attention to my posts, you'll undoubtedly remember that one long one I made about user titles. Yeah... I'm not going to link it because I'm not proud of it, but basically my main thoughts were to have the "member" threshold widened a bit— the lower end, that is. So that a member isn't a "junior" up to post 750. The only thing I had against it is I think it motivates users to post only for the sake of a number— post count. Instead of trying to post something more meaningful just so they can achieve a new rank. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that I'm a "member" now, but I'm also kinda glad that I didn't just post small snippets to get there. It has more meaning to me knowing I didn't change my posting style for the sake of a rank.

As for the names of the titles, I think that's just vBulletin's default. The default thresholds, if I remember correctly, are 30 and 100, or something like that, but they were changed to 750 and 2000 for the reasons that Luprony said. I had no issues with the 2000, I just thought 750 was rather high, but I don't make those decisions.

I'd be all for more variety in user titles, or have them customizable. I'd be okay with that. I think that's a pretty neat idea.

    My thoughts on reputation points/crystals/gems:

Well, I'll be honest. I have a love-hate relationship with reputation. I think it's a good and a bad thing.

    - Good:
I think it allows members the opportunity to show other members their appreciation. For example, I like to give reputation to a member when I see them doing something that I particularly like, and I feel it's kinda like a gift or a token of said appreciation. I don't give rep because someone asks for it. I actually don't like seeing that, but whatever. I know with visitor messages, you can tell a member how awesome they are, but I think adding points to their reputation takes it a step further. That's what I like about it.

    - Bad:
It's abusable, and can give the wrong impression about "importance." When I say "importance," I'm talking about giving the wrong idea that some members are more important than others. I don't believe anypony is more important than anypony else. I also think it gives the wrong impression because, well, take my reputation for example. I have 36 reputation points, but there are staff members on here that have less reputation than I do. There is no way you can convince me that I'm more reputable then they are. Not only staff members, but also those that contribute so much more to this forum than I can ever hope to, and that's the artists, musicians and writers. Before anyone gets the wrong idea, I'm not bashing myself. I'm just speaking the truth. The "abusable" part is pretty self-explanatory; just giving rep because it was asked for, or giving it to someone else just so you can +rep someone you want to +rep (as there are +rep limits), but whatever you want to do is fine. I just won't do it.

Now, you may be wondering, "So, what are you suggesting, ePONY? That the reputation system be disabled?" No. I'm not. Although the "bad" paragraph is larger, I'd say, on the whole, rep is a good thing. Despite its flaws, as I said, it can give a member a sense of appreciation. I know it may sound silly, but I'm glad I have the rep I have, but not because it's a number, or that the gems look nice above my avatar. It's because some people took the time (even if it was only a few seconds), to show me that I, somehow, make posts they appreciate. So, I'm happy every time I login and see that green crystal, because it reminda me that I'm appreciated somehow. Even if it may only be the same group of members +repping me. I wouldn't know. Only a few actually reveal their name when they +rep.

I actually prefer to give rep than to receive it. I have a text file on my computer that has a list of users I feel I owe rep to. It's because it's a way I can show my appreciation for their contributions. Even if it's just a point, I enjoy giving it when I can.

The only time I would advocate disabling the rep system is if I ever see someone suggest they feel unimportant because they have low rep. I want to make it perfectly clear, there are members on here, both staff and non-staff alike, that I consider much more valuable to this community than I am. I'm sure if the gems below my name were proportional to my actual reputation, it'd be much lower. Just as Luprony said (I really like using your post as a reference, by the way), "little crystals can't compare to actual reputation." That is so true. Real reputation has much more value than a point on a score, or a gem on a screen.

    /end tl;dr post.

I think that everypony should be able to have a custom title, regardless of how long or how much they post.
Being called Junior Member/Member/Senior member only unless you're an Admin/DJ or Moderator.
I dream of the day where I can put "Fire Emblem Fanatic" as my title.

well I like the rep system, but I may be biased, since I have so much of it and it make me feel good, that people like me so much. As for titles, it is kind of strange that i'm considered a junior member still just because I don't play the forum text games much.

I wouldn't mind customs titles, I could be the "Bearer of HOPE" but I can live without them.

Can't this go to site suggestions? Maybe could get it changed. Just a thought.

Perhaps the only problem with the Rep gems is their title. Reputations a hard thing to measure, maybe they should be called something else.

Like what? Oh, I was afraid you were going to ask. Well, I guess they tend to measure popularity rather than reputation, so - Pop Gems?

. . . Sounds like a snack food for Spike.

    Hey! That's what I said! :p

I, personally, wouldn't be comfortable with that either. I think 'reputation' and 'popularity' are somewhat synonymous on here. It also goes back to my "importance" argument, except replace the word "importance" with "popularity." It would lead some members to think that other members are more popular than others, and it may be a false representation of that. I'll use myself as an example again, and I only do this because it avoids the risk of offending someone. I know I'm not more popular than some members the staff, and other talented individuals, but if they were called "Pop Gems" then it'd make that false implication that I am.

The name's fine to me, and so is the system. It's just not perfect, but then again, I think anyone would be hard-pressed to find a 'perfect' system. It's great as long as it isn't abused.
