I just noticed that when I try to put two spaces after a full stop, it reverts it to only one space. Is it supposed to do that?
Unfortunately, I notice this happen in like... every forum running on BBC. As a linguist I instinctually double-space after periods. It's proper English, after all. I used to get sad that it was lost, but I gave up on getting that space back years ago. 'Course, if there's a way to bring it back, that would be awesome.
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/d...two-spaces-after-a-full-stop-is-wrong-period/ I could ask around the linguistics forum I regularly visit, and I'm sure they'd say that two spaces is wrong.
This article is written by someone who seems to think that "and" (as well as "but") can legitimately begin a sentence. Which is about where I stopped taking it seriously. If you want to have a debate about literary grammar, you need to follow the rules to begin with. Though the main fight comes from one side of the seas against the other. (I use double spaces for easier reading.) EDIT: That's off topic anyway. The question stands as to "why are extra spaces being dropped?"
Ah, but conjunctions can begin sentences, as according to a dictionary I read. Of course, it all depends upon the context.
That's just how HTML works. HTML ignores multiple white spaces. Go yell at the W3 Consortium. :derpe:
