As the title says I've had the idea that as a community we could put together a magazine of all things pony & brony for the entire MLP community. This magazine would be a 100% free to download electronic PDF with content and creation coming from volunteers. I think it would be a great way to not only spread MLP related news and information but also get the members here involved and working together on an ongoing project. The MLP community is quite the creative one so I'm envisioning majority of the magazine will be dedicated to such things; Drawings, Fanfics, Music, etc. However, rather than just being a gallery for this content I would like to see it go into a bit more depth than that. For example, - How to draw an OC - Top 10 Fanfic tips - Best Music Software You get the idea. There can also be news about; MLP:FIM itself, other Pony related projects and sites, interviews, community contests, and general information that would be helpful/interesting to brony folk. I'm willing to design and produce the magazine myself, though I could always have a helping hand or two!, but what I really need is people from here to help create the content for the magazine. Thoughts and suggestions both welcomed and encouraged
It's a nice idea, one that has popped up briefly in the past. Only limitation is if we would have enough content to keep something like this going.
Thanks, I only thought about it last night so there's definitely a bit of fleshing out to do like you say. Maybe it will, maybe it won't, there's only one way to find out. Like anything I think it would grow over time but yes, whether we can get enough content is my biggest concern with this, and one the main purposes of this thread. I need ideas for content from others here. If anyone has any ideas, don't be afraid to post them up!
I pretty much write my own column every week anyway so I'm pretty sure I can squeeze a few more in to put towards this. I think I'd be all right at the Fan Fic writing and Reviews as I seem more comfortable with those two subjects. Plus, I'm likely to have some game related stuff I've missed on my blog. It's just filling out everything else, I guess, but you have my support.
I like the idea! There can also be a list of tumlr blogs every now and then. Like "Best ask XY Blog", "Best Art Blog" and "Best story Blog" with a short description and review. There could also be reviews about pony fanmade music.
I like this idea. Obviously it needs a lot more planning as to what the content will be, but it could be quite successful. And if it becomes popular, more people could join this site and it won't be dead for half of the day. I wouldn't mind helping out for this, although I can't think of anything interesting to write about that I know a lot about.
I like the idea. however I see that it'd be lot of work for one person to pull off. if you need help, or need some news feed, I'm here to help. I'd certainly like to see this idea come to life.
Now I'm curious if there have been attempts at a pony zine already. If not, it would be awesome for us to be the first to try! I know a lot of the musicians, so I could help out with some of the music sections.
I would love to help with this, I can bring art and writing to the table. Just flesh it out a bit more and BAM, we got ourself something awesome on our hands!
Awesome, articles/reviews on fanfics and games would be great! Of course games wouldn't be very pony related (maybe sometimes) but considering the audience I think a lot of people would still enjoy reading it despite the non-pony nature. Thanks for the suggestion and support Valkyyria, I hadn't thought of including anything Tumblr related. Thanks mate, the idea seems to be getting quite a bit of support, so in the next couple of days or so I'll try to start organising it some more. Start up an application thread, sort out the content, get a team together, etc. Thanks mate. That would be cool if it brought new people to EP. If you do think of something you could write about let me know, even if it's just a one-off article that would be great, also you don't necessarily need to be writing articles to help out I'm sure there will be other things I'll need help with as well. It certainly won't be as regular as other magazines, I'm thinking 3 months per issue initially, that should give enough time to accumulate some decent content and finish each issue to a high standard. Well Mike mentioned the idea had come up before briefly, maybe I can find the thread for that and see if it has any good ideas. A person with connections, nice! Maybe we could get some interviews, or even articles from the musicians themselves would be cool, anything really. Cool, I'll post up some kind of application/recruitment thread soon enough, so keep an eye out.
first off I like the idea, but I see issues in it. A magazine for the whole MLP community might be hard to do. Not like getting it out there but having people download and use it. I mean EQD is already doing what you mentioned. Not to mention My Little Remix, DA and Derpyhoovesnews. All of those can be updated everyday. A magazine is a monthly thing, unless you want to do it weekly. 1) as far as how to draw an OC, I think of a DA group that is pretty much a learn to draw group full of tutorials. 2)Fanfic tips, I pretty sure that Fim fiction would have a section like this, though I have no idea. 3)My Little Remix is a place where a bunch of the brony musicians hang out. I'm pretty sure it was started to help people get into music, but I could be wrong. I just think it would be hard to compete against the others that could put info out faster. This pretty much sound like EQD, they always do things like this. They are on top of all the new pony junk. DHN already does interviews with artist and they barely get views. They also seem to interview a lot of NSFW artist. Which I'm guessing wouldn't be in this maganize. Don't let my post confuse you, I like the idea and wouldn't mind trying to helping. I just see it hard to compete against others that could put out content faster.
But it's a PDF. It's just as easy to get as anything else. The only thing that would make it wanted is if it has something that the others can't offer.
I kind of like this, but the main problem i'm seeing is this will be too big for us to keep up for very long, if we can even get it started.
Well of course a magazine is going to have issues Baloney! Who says a magazine has to be monthly, I'm thinking 3 months per issue, maybe 2 months if things go really good. I wouldn't take those examples to literally, I was really just saying that I didn't want articles to be like, "Here's the top 10 Pony pictures of this month". Give it a bit more substance, I think it would be good to try to leave the reader having learnt something. Yeah, this would be a PG magazine. Thanks Echo. Start small, then build up progressively, I see what you're saying though. The way I see it, without a doubt we have people with the skills to do it, just have to get a group of those people together. Where - Here When - soon enough How - I'll be posting a new thread (when it's not 4:00am) it'll explain the idea in a bit more detail and start to organise some things. But right now, good night, I've been up almost 24 hours.
I too like it, but just can't see it working... I guess it doesn't hurt to give it a go though. I say let's go for it.
