First of all, a lot you were wondering what a magazine has to offer over places like Equestria Daily, Derpyhoovesnews, etc, a very valid question. I think the answer to that is really just having fun as a community. I would have never suggested the idea if I didn't think we would have fun doing it. There are a lot of talented people in the MLP:FIM community, on even this forum alone, a magazine would give people an opportunity to put their skills to use and make something for the community. There are people drawing pictures, making music, writing articles and discussing news already, and magazine or no magazine they'll keep doing it, whether it be on forums like this, youtube, deviant art or pony/brony blogs. So I guess all I'm really suggesting is to use what we already have and make something with it, something that the rest of the community can enjoy and possibly get involved with. I'm actually less concerned about making it super successful than I am about simply doing something together as a group. With that out of the way here's how I propose we get things started. The magazine will obviously be based here, so when the time comes I'll make a dedicated group for it but first I'll need ideas for content and people to help make it. SO, If you would like to write articles, help with the design and creation or simply have an idea, let's hear it! Post up (or PM me of you would prefer) what you what you want to do and I'll start putting together a team and a list of what will be in the magazine. Magazine Staff SR20DETDOG - desinger The Content
Glad someone agrees What kind of ideas? This is meant to be a brainstorming/application thread. That could be interesting.
As long as it's a local-ep-community based magazine and not a worldwide brony news thing, this could be a very good idea. Discuss each section of the forums, recent site changes, member interviews? There's a CMS/Article system in the Vbulletin software that the site doesn't currently utilize, with some tweaking it would suit this nicely.
Ooooo What about an Art Page! Filled with some of the EPist's arts? Or Or OR a Music Page? ~~~~ I would also like to help write it
I'd love to help- Just I don't know what I could help with... :S Edit; Maybe I could do/help with a page about merch?
You know, instead of a EP Magazine, we could simply make more efficient use of the EP-Tumblr which we have. User's could submit any content that they'd like and it could be posted for everybody to enjoy. A sister thread could be made on the site as well which would mirror the tumblr's posts for those who aren't interested in making or joining tumblr.
I could write some content. I've been told I'm good at writing articles, but I'm not so sure. We could do a test run.
Dose anyone want too write about pony fashion, whats new in pony wear. this articel could be used for futher ideas in the MLP-show
. Update If anyone is interested in being a part of this project send me a PM letting me know what you would like to do
Or we could call the tumblr "EPN Magazine." Although I'm not sure if the tumblr format would work for such a thing, as I'm unfamiliar with tumblr. I'm not liking the idea of including updates about the site and such in the magazine though. #1: we have the updates on the main page and #2: that stuff isn't very interesting to read. No offense. As for ideas: News (the show/the brony community+phenomena/events/newsy stuff), articles (music/art/fashion/merch/people) and of course reviews (episodes/new merch/etc.). And of course it wouldn't be a proper magazine without interviews, which we could always get from various music artists like JackleApp and WoodenToaster (they've already done it before, although I'm not sure if they'd still be interested as most of them have stopped doing brony music) but we could also send a person or two to brony events like BroNYcon and have them not only write articles about the event itself, but get interviews with people from the show like Tara Strong, Ashleigh Ball(sp?) and John De Lancie, if possible. Honestly all this stuff seems like it'd be pretty obvious to anyone who's ever read a magazine before, but eh.
It would help if you had more dymanic content on the forums themselves, as you'll rank higher in search engines. At least make sure you do plenty of linkbacks if you're going to use the tumblr!
