I hated Rarity when I first saw this episode, but watching it a second time, I came to realise how much character development she has had and how much she has her vanity under control now. also YAY
I liked that this episode showed how Dash isn't completely bulletproof when it comes to confidence or self esteem, because that was something that bothered me about her for the first half of the season. I also thought Fluttershy was really cute in this episode, with her cheering at the end of the competition. The whole "yay"scene with Fluttershy and Dash is actually my ringtone right now. xD
Ah, yes, one of my absolute favourites. Well, we know from Fall Weather Friends that she just cannot stand losing and will do anything to win. In that episode, it was just Applejack whom she had to beat. Here, however, it's Rarity who outshines her to such a degree that nopony seems to even care for what she'll pull off so that she doesn't have the slightest chance to win. The fact that Rarity was a spontaneously added contestant and due to the tight schedule had to share a time slot with Rainbow Dash didn't help at all. The audience barely even noticed that Rainbow Dash was there as everypony's eyes were on Rarity's gossamer and morning dew wings. I guess that if Rarity had not pulled the Icarus, we would have witnessed an actual Psycho Dash. Something I like a lot about this episode, by the way, are the (not always that) small details. For example, Lyra is in the audience. Not a pegasus retool of Lyra but Lyra herself. It's not that unlikely to see her walk (hop, that is) on clouds. She's a unicorn, after all, and Twilight found the cloudwalking spell in a library book which Lyra may pretty well have read, too. This still doesn't solve the question how she got to Cloudsdale without wings. (Her excited hopping and this little problem here might lead us to the conclusion that she'll do the magic butterfly wings trick at the following BYFC. If artificial wings don't get ruled out, that is.) That, and if there's an episode in which our Muffin Princess really shines, it's Sonic Rainboom. Not only does she appear as a foreground pony when Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy arrive in Cloudsdale, she's also the 15th and last competitor at the Best Young Flyers Competition (that is, before Rainbow Dash exchanges numbers with her and puts her in an earlier slot as #6, enabling her to see the rest of the competition from among the audience). I'm wondering what she performs, seeing as it was originally scheduled to be the sort of finale.
I think this is my favourite episode. Rarity needs to learn tot be considerate,,, BUT OMG DID YOU SEE Rainbow Dash?!!? SHE IS AMAZING I mean, that Sonic Rainboom was pretty cool And our Muffin Princess, as Pulse Wave pointed out, did amazing. Sorry if I'm not contributing much (In the correct way), I'm new, so LOVE AND TOLERATE THE S#@T OUTTA ME
Well, this episode kinda seemed rushed. I don't know, but i feel like this one could've been in the season 2 or 3, because the "Sonic Rainboom" seemed like a technique nobody could master.
I like this episode for many reasons. I'm not very good at explaining why, but I'll give it a shot. I like it because it shows that we grow by going passed our limits, and how our friends help us do that, even without trying. I knew what was going to happen once Rarity's wings burnt up, but I was still cheering Rainbow Dash on. :3
This is actually tied for my favorite episode of the season. I love the character development of RD, Rarity, and Fluttershy, as well as all the little things. It holds my best example of the animators caring about continuity, at least in episodes, as after Rarity loses her wings she never is left on the clouds as she never got that spell. It shows the first example of a spell being too hard to replicate and gives us more info about magic. It has the Sonic Rainboom, which is one of the coolest concepts for a trick ever conceived. The list goes on, and I just plain love it!
This has to be the most sawed-out famous episode in the serie so far. It's most quotable and most talked about episode next to Party for One, to me. It was a great episode but i agree with Jaret. It did seem a bit...rushed?
I like this episode because it is revealed that even Rainbow Dash has a weakness. Character development is always a good thing. Derpy is present, and that makes it even better. One of my favorite scenes, however, is when Rarity is called but needs another minute, and so contestant number 7 goes instead. This pony is a young pegasus with a blonde mane and tail, who shouts "Let's do this!" before running into the stadium. His name is Leeroy Wingkins. "Let's do this! LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY WWWWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINGKINS!"
My favorite episode. I love the sonic rainboom music. It's also me gamer tag discuss, No more sadness and hate, only ponies.
I like how during the cheering at the end. Everypony else including Pinkie have their mouths hanging open in shock.
Episode 16 Sonic Rainboom I know this isn't really relevant, but it kind confuses me. In this episode if you look at the stands we see derpy cheering for the wonder bolts. Then in t he next scene we see her in the dressing room getting ready to compete. 13:58 - Stands 14:11 - Dressing room
Repeating background ponies are quite common. You'll find duplicates all over the place in just about every episode.
