Save Your Internet – Delete article 13

It has come to light that the EU is pushing a proposal called Article 13, which is aimed to attack piracy. However, it doesn't end there. This will also jump on transformative works protected normally under the laws of Fair Use. This proposal will indirectly strip the idea of Fair Use from such things. Putting blame and liability on the sites allowing such content. This will also include links to news articles and other sources, which in turn will have a tax on the links. A tax any site will have the overall amount on for each link and video that is taken from elsewhere without permission from the original creators.

Basically, it will not matter if you made a transformative work that only uses small amount of copyrighted material. If it has any copyrighted material at all, it's automatically going to get hit hard and most likely taken down. And with such harsh regulation, many video hosting sites, forums, blogs, and other misc. sites that generally will have posts of copyrighted content from other places in them will suffer greatly and even be killed, if it's bad enough.

Sites such as Google and Facebook will mostly be unaffected due to filters in place that deal with copyrighted material. The only ones who would able to handle taking the taxes on news sources, let alone reporting on them, are major news outlets. Which greatly limits what we can and cannot see far beyond anything concivced before.

We have till some time in June, 20th or 21st, to try and counter this attack on fair use and freedom of speech. The link above the video is to saveyourinternet.eu site which is made to allow people to join in the fight to keep the internet free and open to us all.
