I'm sure many of you are familiar with the idea from Equestria Daily: This is an event held bi-weekly that can help artists improve their skills. It doesn't matter whether you're a new artist, seasoned, or haven't drawn a thing in your life, the best way to improve your skills is through practice. Lauren Faust herself once gave some advice to aspiring artists. She said something along the lines of this: "Imagine you have about 4,000 bad pictures inside of you. Now all you have to do is pump those out as quickly as possible and you'll consistently draw well." That's pretty much the point of this all at the core, to help everyone here become a better artist as a group, because doing it together can be loads more fun than doing it alone. Anyway, here's a quick description of the event itself: -Every week I'll post a topic or an idea in this thread, and that will be the thing to draw, or gravitate your drawing around. The point to this is to make you guys draw a large variety of things; a very important thing to do when improving your artistic skills. -You can send in as many pictures as you want, but do remember it's quality over quantity. -We'll be sending the pictures to a panel of judges who will then decide who's drawn the best depiction of the topic. Keep in mind, we know that there will be new artists mixed with the veterans, so the overall quality of the picture may not necessarily deem it a winner. The event is about improving after all. -Sometime within the week, the results will be posted depicting the First Place Winner, Second Place Winner, Third Place Winner, and Honorable Mentions. -Due to recent joke entries, only serious submissions will be accepted. "But what if I'm just bad at drawing?" I can tell the difference >3> -The art must be your own. -As if it wasn't obvious enough, please keep the pictures in accordance with the sites rules. If it's something minor, I'll send you a reply asking you to fix the picture. If you don't, the picture will be removed from the contest for the week. If you send me anything pornographic, I will ban you on the spot. -When you have a submission, shoot me a PM with the subject "ATG Sub" Please. -Your picture is considered finished whenever you deem it as such. As long as it clearly shows the topic, then it can be submitted. Remember, not everyone has access to the things required to color their pictures. I am very excited for this project! What made the Newbie-Artist-Training Ground great was the fact that it was a place and time based phenomena. Excluding unforeseen snags, we will have a deadline for art, criteria for submission and paneled judging to help newbies and pros alike. Having something to look forward to every week will keep the interested coming back and give the passive something they can check out. This is going to be fun!
Well, those tutorials you linked convinced me to download Inkscape. I'll give it a try at the very least. :derpe: Will there be other kinds of events like this one, or will they all revolve around actual drawing?
I don't really know to be honest. The thing about drawing as compared to something like music is the fact that just about everybody has access to the tools required whereas people may not have software like Fruitloops or Ableton. I guess it really depends on how popular this one becomes, I'm sure we could do fanfic challenges or something. 24 hours to do a fanfiction revolving around a certain idea/synopsis.
Me and Placidzone are working on something for the RP are. Yes it is an RP but one that will actually have a somewhat decent story and backstory to it. It will take some time as these things do, but we will get it up and running.
Alrighty, it seems as though we have some people, so I should get started on this haha. The topic this week is something super simple: Draw two ponies fishing. Happy Drawing y'all.
Alas, I have a ton of requests and my tablet isn't very cooperative. I'd love to do this, but I'm awfully busy. :x
sounds great! ive been pretty crappy at drawing stuff lately. but one one qeustion... do you have to use computer or can u use pencil and paper?
I'd give it a shot but seeing as my pictures usually take more then a week to do I doubt I'll ever be in any of these. Unless the topic really interest me. Something like I dunno........Ponies in pirate gear or superheroes.
I am uploading the WIP so those of you who are less far down the road get an idea of 'one way' to draw ponies. I've kept in all my mill-makrks so this image can help along the rest of you. Enjoy arting and look for a finished version soon!
I'm probably gonna get in on this. Not this topic though, too busy the next couple weeks. But maybe I'll catch the next one. ...well nevermind I guess, I just submitted my entry. I didn't think I'd be able to make it, but I got a random urge to draw and while thinking of a subject I thought about this thread. :derpe: It's just a messy sketch but, you know, participation and all.
