Eyes in the Dark (OOC & Character Sheets)

So if you've seen the interest check, good. You know how it started. So first off, some of the ways you can tell your pal is turning into something that'll bite your face off.

-Discoloration in eyes, (turning them a milky grey) skin pigment, (paler, sickly green, or reddish skin) and blood. (Black and a bit tar-like.)
-Increased aggression, and more animal-like behavior.
    -Cannibalistic tendencies.
-Completely numb to pain and intense temperatures.
-Heavily undilated eyes, causing high light sensitivity.
-Increased hearing senses, which cause alarm of the infected when a loud noise (i.e. alarm or explosion) goes off.
    -Frequent hemorrhages and nose-bleeds.

Now, if you've read on off the interest check, you know about the experimental zombies, or "species". Each is unique with their own abilities. Now, since there are quite a few, you MAY NOT choose a type of zombie another player is, unless you wish to be your own gender, and the male-type/female-type infected are all used up, then ask me. If all positions have been taken, then feel free to choose whichever type of Species you want. Here they are. (Or you can be a normal zombie...)

    Tank
    _________________

The Tank is an exclusively male Species who has experienced the most extensive physical mutations of any other class of Special Infected. The most obvious trait is its extreme hypertrophy, or abnormally increased muscle mass. Despite its enormous bulk, the Tank is incredibly fast and agile, able to keep up with even a healthy Survivor. This abnormal muscular growth is most obvious in its arms and upper body but less pronounced around the Tank's waist, hips, and legs. Though the Tank's legs are capable of supporting its static weight (such as when the Tank mounts a rock throwing attack), the Tank's disproportionate anatomy forces it to knuckle-walk like a gorilla, resulting in the Tank's wrists becoming swollen. The Tank's body is covered with numerous scars and lesions from previous fights, with an especially large open sore on its left pectoral. The Tank's jaw at first glance seems to be missing, but upon closer inspection it is shown to be enveloped within its thick neck muscles. It can be assumed its bones have become stronger too, otherwise the Tank's skeleton would have collapsed under the weight of its own body; this is supported by that shooting the Tank at his head will not put him down any quicker, hinting that the reinforced bone of skull has prevented the projectiles from penetration. The increased muscle mass serve as the Tank's both weapon and armor. As a weapon, the muscle give the Tank inhuman strength; a smash from a Tank is enough to send Survivors or large objects such as cars flying meters away, destroying weaker structure, or ripping rock or concrete off the ground. On the other hand, it serve as the Tank's defensive body armor, protecting his vital organs from gunfire; the Tank can absorb excessive punishment from any weapons for that matter, which makes taking him down before he reach the defensive line next to impossible. The Tank has also suffered either heavy brain damage or a rabies-like cerebral infection, resulting in the Tank being in a constant state of unbridled rage, even more so than most other Infected, and its response is to attack any human survivor on sight. Once the Tank has fixed a target, nothing short of death can stop him; bullets and explosives will not make him flinch, fire only slows him down, and the sound of explosions and alarms won't distract him . The Tank will even smash down doors, knock away obstacles, and plow through entire crowds of Infected just to bare down on an unlucky Survivor it has chosen as a target. It is presumed that the energy it costs to run the Tank's enormous body is too much, that he must wait until the Survivors move close or start attacking to accumulate energy. However, when the Tank is completely trapped, cannot find a way to reach its target, or haven't hit any Survivor for too long after starting a fight, it automatically dies possibly due to frustration, though it is hinted that his death is either by energy exhaustion, or by some bodily need which kills him if he haven't hit a Survivor for too long in the fight. This makes the Tank the only Infected that technically needs to kill Survivors to survive, it is also hinted that the Tank will always die once he starts fighting, because eventually he will suffer from lack of Survivors to kill once they have all fled or died, providing they failed to kill him

    Smoker
    _________

The Smoker is another exclusively male Species, and has been heavily mutated by mutation and frequently makes high-pitched rasping and coughing noises that can alert Survivors of its presence. Though it resembles most Common Infected, it is taller, more durable, and its skin has become covered in growths that cause little spurts of green smoke and blood to ooze out when shot. It is said that the smoke it expels gives off a putrid smell, but it is otherwise harmless. The left side of its face is bloated and appears to be covered by a large tumor.Though its mentality is similar to that of the typical Infected, it is not distracted by things such as the flashing lights of pipe bombs, nor is it attracted by car alarms going off. When constricted, Survivors have a brief moment (1-2 seconds) to shoot the offending Smoker before their arms are ensnared by the tongue. If they fail, the Survivor is helplessly dragged off, and will take damage until they die. Survivors can be rescued by either killing the Smoker, or attacking and breaking the tongue. If the Survivor is close enough, the Smoker will claw at them, dealing damage. If there is an object (eg. a car) preventing the Survivor from being dragged, then the Smoker will strangle them using its tongue. If a Survivor isn't dragged all the way back to a Smoker due to an obstruction (eg. a Horde surrounding the Survivor), the Survivor only takes damage from the Horde, and not the Smoker. When killed, a Smoker leaves a haze of dark green smoke, obscuring the vision of the Survivors and causing them to cough if they stand in it. Like most other Species, a melee hit from the Smoker does about twice as much damage as the Horde. Some have suggested that the mutated "tongue" could actually be intestines. Occasionally, when killing the Smoker, hundreds of feet of "tongue" will spew from its mouth, supporting the intestines theory. A second theory leading to the Smoker's mutation involved a type of fungus or similar bacteria to grow along its face. This could be responsible for the spore or smoke clouds and its tongue(s), since in many cases, fungi have been known to grow tentacle-like appendages that appear similar to tongues. This is supported by the fact that upon death, the Smoker's mutated tongue disappears, and you can see the true tongue in his mouth. A third theory is that the Smoker had cancer (probably tongue or throat) before becoming infected. This is supported by the fact that cancer occurs when a cell or group of cells mutate to the point the hayflick limit breaks, so the cells don't stop reproducing. Since there are cancerous growths all over the Smoker's face and upper torso along with the extra tongues protruding from the growths, this may be true; it would also explain how the Smoker's tongue grows so quickly after being snapped from the base. A fourth theory is that part of the Infection gives the Smoker regenerative abilities, similar to cancer.

    Boomer
    __________

The Boomer has undergone extreme external and internal mutations by some adverse reaction to theexperimental mutations. The most notable observation of the Boomer is its extremely bloated belly, most likely caused by its stomach (and possibly most, if not all of its gastrointestinal system) being hijacked by the infection to overproduce bile in massive amounts. The sheer tension on its skin and organs has resulted in a breakdown of the epidermal and dermal layers, causing the skin to become thin and fragile. In some places the skin has even ruptured, exposing some of the bile-filled internal organs. This enormous buildup of internal pressure makes the Boomer quite vulnerable to any outside agitation, as even the slightest gunshot wound or melee shove will result in the Boomer violently exploding, sending blood and bile everywhere - hence its name. Even so, the Boomer can autonomously engage in strenuous self-directed physical activities (e.g. jumping down from a height) without injury. Other physical mutations observed include massive boil-like growths that appeared upon its skin and face. Whether this is due to overproduction of bile is unknown. Similar to the other Species, it is not distracted by high frequency noises such asexplosions oralarms. The Boomer's bile has a unique chemical binding effect with infected and/or non-infected flesh which produces an extracellular stimulus. This chemical stimulus induces a pheromone-like attraction from nearby common infected which causes them to swarm and attack the bile-saturated source. The exact nature as to why this induces a negative response is unknown but the response is non-discriminatory between infected and non-infected flesh (i.e. using a container filled Boomer bile on the Tank triggers the same violent response against the Tank). It should be noted that typically common infected have been known to exhibit an extremely basic form of logic (hence their ability to recognize non-infected). The bile-flesh response seems to trump this logic, which could mean that the stimulus is extremely intoxicating for the common infected. Boomers come in both male and female genders, though usually male.

    Charger
    ___________

The Charger's mutations appear similar to theTank’s mutations in terms of increased muscle mass, though more asymmetrical. Most notably, the Charger's right arm and shoulder have grown to a massive size and had increased in thickness, resulting in his right hand becoming a swollen lump with stubby fingers. His left arm, inversely, has atrophied to the point of being useless (possibly from his body breaking it down to add bulk to his right arm), hanging limply to the Charger's side and flapping around with every movement. His legs are less visibly affected by mutation, with only his left leg gaining any sort of extra bulk (to the point of ripping his overalls) while the right leg's proportions remain normal. The leg mutations are possibly to balance the Charger, equalizing the weight distribution throughout the body, and could enable him to move quite fast. Due to the Charger's preferred method of attack, it has sustained multiple injuries, especially on his right arm―prolonged times of bashing and slamming into walls has made the flesh of the Charger's right arm thick with calluses, scabs, and scars. Most likely a result of his constant charging, the Charger's right half of his face is visibly damaged. His cranium is possessing a massive dent, lacks teeth, and half his face torn off, revealing his skull and jawbone. His nose is completely removed and has blood running from it, signalling massive trauma. Moreover, his dangling left arm shows signs of necrosis. He is not as powerful asthe Tank, but can still take a beating and inflict massive damage, either by punching or charging. When charging, the Charger will attempt to grab one Survivor and carry them away, knocking over any other Survivors in its way. He does inflicts much damage when picking up and grabbing Survivors in a "pinned-style," much like theHunter andSmoker, until reaching a wall or other viable hard surface. He then begins pummeling them repeatedly into the ground until either he is killed by the other Survivors, the Survivor in his grasp dies, or is stunned by a nearby explosion (explosive ammo works). When pinned by a Charger, Common Infected can still do damage to the Survivor. The Charger may punch multiple Survivors if they are bunched up together, as the Charger's punch can do high damage, though not as much as his charge. The Charger can be most dangerous when the Survivors are standing in front of an area they can be thrown or pummeled into. The Charger will scatter them, launching anyone unfortunate enough to be hit after the Charger picks up his first victim either backwards into a possible Horde or off an edge. (killing them instantly) The Charger will then proceed to pummel its victim into a mangled pulp. The Charger has been known to knock Survivors onto the top of vehicles such as vans. Any Survivor who is hurt by the charge will get a random amount of damage, from either medium to high, will be stunned. Like most other Special Infected, the Charger has a distinctive sound. He is loud, making noises vaguely similar to human speech and barking at enemies in a high-pitched tone. He will also screech upon spotting Survivors and release a roar like a charging bull when starting a charge.

    Jockey
    _________

Themutations have caused the Jockey to develop a large amount of muscle mass on his upper back and neck, making him hop around in a spider monkey-like motion. His fingers and toes have increased in length, adding to his baboon-like profile. His lips, and the skin surrounding them, have deteriorated away, giving him a more skeletal look at the mouth area. This could possibly be due to him chewing and biting away at his lips because of mania, or possibly even clawing at his mouth due to the same reason. He wears a tattered white t-shirt and blue boxers. He has a gibbering vocalization, and cackles hysterically while riding a Survivor. According to notes, the mutations have put mania in the Jockey, causing the Jockey to laugh. As put in the notes, his hands are curved downward like a praying mantis, the arms are sticking out straight, and they have a coat of what appears to be blood. The hands are always twitching and shaking (the right one twitching notably more often than the left), and he doesn't stop laughing until death. While there is a Jockey on the back of a Survivor, the Survivor can still move to resist the Jockey's influence over them, though this only has a slight resistance and will merely slow the Survivor to a slow walk. Also, against what is commonly believed, moving in the same direction as the Jockey will not make it steer you any faster even though, theoretically, it should.

    Spitter
    _________

Through mutations, the Spitter has developed the ability to project an extremely corrosive ball of acid from her mouth in a mortar-like fashion. This projectile will collide with a ceiling or wall and drop down to the nearest solid walkable surface, and upon contact will spread into a large puddle of acid that increases in damage over time. It's possible, from the way the acid is spat, that the Spitter encases it in a thin sort of membrane or bolus (likely in her body or throat/mouth) which is either dissolved by the acid or breaks on impact. It is evident that the infection has caused the spitter to suffer from megaesophagus, or her stomach has eroded all organs found in her neck. This could be the cause of her hacking and gurgling, as acid could be in her lungs. From how heavily the Spitter secretes the acid, it seems that she cannot stop producing at will, and must excrete it from her body in such fashion (as salivating it) to prevent herself filling up and rupturing with acid, similar to the Boomer. The Spitter's lower jaw, cheeks, nose and lips seem to have become noticeably eroded, suggesting she may not be entirely resistant to the acid she is coughing up. It appears that all around her mouth, the skin has disappeared. Also, just above her breast and on the top of her stomach are two red sores, most likely eroded spots from where the acid drips down from her mouth. Her proportions are awkward and stretched, including the sagging breasts, elongated neck, and bloated stomach, which are most likely used to accommodate and produce the fluids. Her elongated neck may also give her the advantage of being able to spit acid at long distances and high velocity. Her baggy skin and stumbling gait could be caused by the virus or even the acid itself eating away at her connective tissues. The big toe on her right foot has shifted to the side of the foot like the thumb of a hand. While running, a trail of acid can be seen dripping from the Spitter's mouth. This can be used to track the Spitter, although it disappears shortly after she walks away from it. The Spitter's fingernails are very long but not particularly sharp, doing about a very small amount of damage per hit. Interestingly, as seen in the dark, her acid glows. This is useful for the Survivors to quickly spot her before the Spitter can attack. Spitters are female specific in gender.

    Witch
    _________

The Witch has been heavily mutated in terms of physical strength rather than appearance. Though resembling a typical female Infected, she has sharpened elongated fingers that are similar to the condition ofarachnodactyly (which often accompanies Marfan Syndrome). In an interview with Chet, he claimed that the Witch had a strange attraction to the smell of sugar, which explains why there are a large number of Witches near places with alot of sweets, such as candy stores, although this may be due to hunger or other factors caused by the Infection or mutation. Her choice of attire when compared to other Infected could indicate a raised body temperature such as a fever, which could also explain the sluggishness, constant signs of distress, irritability, and sensitivity to light and sound. However, the Witch may have attempted to remove her clothing herself as it appears as if she cut the clothing up herself. Despite her petite figure, the Witch has incredible strength and stamina, enabling her to incapacitate or instantly kill Survivors in one hit, depending on the state of the Survivor she is attacking. She is known to cry when not aware of the Survivors, although the reasoning behind it is unknown. It's likely she is incredibly depressed - a symptom that could accompany her loss of sanity or the virus has not taken full control and she knows she is a monster and she is depressed due to this fact and when a survivor is to close or turns a flashlight on etc. the virus starts to take over or it could be an evolutionary advantage, meant to lure unsuspecting Survivors to her. Even though her mentality is largely similar to that of the typical Infected, she is not distracted by things like the flashing lights and the sounds of explosions (though setting her on fire will anger her). She is also not apparently attracted by things such asalarms, although this will alert her of the Survivors' presence. Oddly, she glows red in dark areas, possibly due to her glowing eyes. It is also unknown whether or not the Witch is extremely thin because of the Infection, (weight loss due to starvation) mutation, or if this was her body shape before the infection took place. Witches are also specifically female in gender.

    Hunter
    ___________

The Hunter is the least visibly mutated Species and superficially resembles a Common Infected. It has yet to be explained how the Hunter's mutations onset, whether it be genetic, biochemical, or a Hunter-specific strain of the virus, but the mutations seem to be gender-linked as only male Hunters have been observed. The Hunter's reaction tothe experimental mutations has granted him an increase in lower-body strength. While not creating massive muscle growth like theTank, this added strength has given the Hunter the ability to repeatedly jump and pounce from long distances and rapidly scale the sides of buildings with ease as well as toughen its legs in order to withstand the great distances and heights it can achieve. Decreased pain response visible in all sufferers of the Infection also results in the Hunter not suffering from perpetuallactic acid build up from muscle overexertion or impact damage after experiencing a large fall. At the same time, there seems to be some sort of muscle delay after an initial attack (post-attack recharge) where the Hunter is not able to move as swiftly. One of the most notable physical observations is that the Hunter lacks eyes. Whether this is self-inflicted, a by-product of the Infection, or both, is unknown. The extent of damage to the Hunter's sight suggests his other senses are far more developed than those of typical Infected, allowing him to hunt with far greater efficiency. It is possible that the screeching noises he makes and the growling are his ownecholocation method. He might also use scent to tell the Survivors apart from Infected. As with the other Special Infected, he is not distracted by such high-frequency noises asexplosions oralarms. Hunters also appear to be the only Infected with a self-defense reflex: when shot at a distance and knowing it cannot pounce, the Hunter will sometimes jump away into safety. The Hunter is overall the most intelligent of the Species, and though the other Species are very capable of working with each other and even the much less intelligent Infected, the Hunter lives up to it’s name with a more predatory nature, working to the utmost with other Species in order to attack Survivors. However, Hunter’s are highly nocturnal, and only come out at night, and every so often if the weather provides dark cover. (i.e. very dark and large clouds, like that in a rainstorm) Hunters will also work with each other, if there are more than one in the area, in what are called “packs”. They attack only with stealth, and only attack one Survivor for each Hunter, but only if they are unaccompanied. For example, if there are two Survivors alone and two hunters together, they would each pounce on the survivors at the same time, ensuring that the other would not be injured.

Tactics for being an infected or a survivor going against an infected will come along shortly. Here’s the Character Sheet.
