Witch is better? The show or the fanfics? I sometimes find the fan fictions of My Little Pony: Friend is Magic more appealing then the actual show. As this ever happen to any of you. I would like to know what you guys think.
Well some times fanficts are nice and they seem the most possible, but then an enjoyable episode comes out and restores the love for the show, Its more of a rollercoaster thing. For me anyway.
Really you have to bear in mind though just who the target audience is. I don't neccassarily find one better than the other because of that difference. A fanfic is written for people who are more into details, a more mature audience and usually as an attempt to turn something simple (like the plot of My Little Pony) into something much more complex. Whereas, the show itself is aimed at little kids who wouldn't be able to comprehend what was going on if the show was like a novel because of their short attention spans. Over analysis of the show like Rainbow Factory's all good though.
I'm a purist when it comes to shows and this is no different. I absolutely love the show and some fan fiction I've read is good but I don't consider it to be too spectacular. I like watching shows and people come up with some cool ideas for fiction and I appreciate the creativity but I'd rather rewatch episodes then read fan fiction. There's just something that doesn't feel too rewarding to me about reading fan fiction. I don't know, it's just the way I feel.
Fan fictions add in things that appeal to me that are not put into the show such as Action or romance however I would say that i like both equally
We would not have fanfiction without the show. It's a broader imagination, yet for a smaller audience.
I think that the fan fictions are one the most important parts of the fandom. I find my self reading fanfic more then then rewatching. But yea, you guys make great point, I just wanted to see what all you ponies think of fanfic.
The actual show is much more important for me by a long way. I despise all but a few shows aired on TV these days, becoming quite annoyed and frustrated after watching just a minute or two of them. I watch My Little Pony for the same reason I watch Adventure Time, it is simply a fun and enjoyable show to watch.
I love the show, I'd rather watch it then read fan fics. Though, some fan fics are amazing. Of Mares and Magic and Past sins to be exact, I love those fics.
It really depends on the fanfic. The themes explored in fics are radically different from those in the episodes. Fics are a lot more adult (i dont mean clopfics, just sad/angry themes), so they fit a completely different moodset. I usually only read depressing ones (im that kind of person haha) so i would honestly say that in some cases i would rather read a fic than watch the show. Transcendence and (of course) MLD were two incredible works, that i would gladly read again.
and there is the problem; that is really one of those I'd recommend against reading, to be frank. It is disturbing and leaves a sour taste when it comes to fanfiction, which is really a massively varied and spectacular thing. As for myself, I can't really pit them on one another, as I love them both for very different reasons.
Care to name it? I need some encouragement. How many people want a Fanfic adaptation of Daring Do and the Quest for the Sapphire stone? I'm currently writing chapter 1, but I want to check it's popularity before I continue.
I warn you though it is far worse then cupcakes. I suggest reading past sins instead. It's worth the time. Just search sweet apple massacre. It's kinda hard to find. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
