So for the first time in years I have been reading fanfiction, inspired by the amazing my Little Pony fanfiction out there. I have always had an attitude of normal canon faithful only and avoid grimdark and especially shipping. Crossover I am also weary of even when it is a crossover of something I like because it just seems wrong to me to cross ponies with very different things. Random I don't have clue what that means and haven't tried it. Not want to read grimdark has nothing to do with having a weak stomach, I read Cupcakes and enjoyed it, in a strange way though it seemed in Pinkie's character. I read another grimdark recently called Rainbow Factory as research for a PMV on the Rainbow Factory song I am making and it was very well written, but the concept seemed even more implausible then Cupcakes, I won't spoil it. But if you enjoyed Cupcakes, I would recommend Rainbow Factory. I also avoid epic long stories cause I don't have time. In fact I can list right here what I have read as it's not much yet. Cupcakes Luna's Goodwill Tour chapter 1-6 Ah Ain't Got No Accent Memories of those that have gone before us Rainbow Factory I intend to read Second Impressions next a Normal Fluttershy fic. So this thread is basically to discuss fanfiction and what genres you are wary of reading and what fics you think would get someone into a genre the normally avoid.
I like to read fanfics that either focus on family or on friendship. Which is why I recommend this fics. A Day for Spike and Twilight My Little Assistant Kindness's Reward Of Mares and Magic Dragon's Detour (still in progress) I especially recommend the top one if you like stories based on relationship development.
Haven't really started on Fanfictions yet but these are on my to-do-list. Cupcakes (No time to actually read) Building Bridges (TwiDash) Double Rainbow [Director's Cut] Thunder and Lightning (VinylDash) Off The Edge Of The Map (FlutterDash) You probably know what genre I would be interested in from 4/5 of these fanfiction besides Cupcakes. Haven't had time to read any yet.
The only reason I'm going to read Cupcakes it due that fact that it is Infamous. Not to mention a known fanfiction. I might as well read it. Then go back to my shipping fics. :derpe:
I read all of cupcakes... ^_^ But I didn't like the original, I just got totally hooked. I'm afraid most of what I read is epic and long, but here's two really good ones: The Night That Never Ended ch. 1-15 (still continuing though) by BronyCray Mort Takes a Holiday ch. 1-7 (also continuing) by Anonymous-Materials The first may not be the happiest of fanfics, but at least both are way better than cupcakes!
Just read 2 short ones, less the 10 page each The Summerlands and Second Impressions. Summerlands, was okay I suppose for a short fic but, well... did not leave a lasting impression, it's forgettable. Second Impressions, was quite enjoyable. It had an interesting moral to it and built Fluttershy's character nicely. I recommend this a short read that's worth it, especially if you love Fluttershy. @DRD, I keep hearing about shipping fics being good, I just can't seem to imagine it. I should give one a try, any suggestions?
I've only read a couple of short ones, but I have a folder jammed packed with stories that I've copy-pasted into word, and will get around to reading when I have the chance. I started reading Cupcakes, because of its famousness (is that a word?), but could not get into it. As far as what kinds of stories I like, well, adventure of course, comedy, grim-dark can be good - well, really, I'll read anything - even clop stories - if its well written. My own tastes for writing are either action-adventure, or comedy. But, my brand of humor might be a bit odd. Still, I gots ideas!
I haven't read any of my starting-to-read fanfics. I would suggest some Fluttershy shipping fics but I don't know any besides FlutterDash. (I think.) That and all the shipping fics that I am willing to read are/have some Rainbow Dash in it. If anyone has any shipping fic suggestions tell Setzer.

I'll read any type of story as long as it sounds good. My favorite are probably shipping though. Some grim dark stuff is okay. I have no problem with crossover as long as it's something else I like such as Green lantern. (I need to finish mine, after I solve some plot issues). The 2 I'm need to finish now are: Of mares and magic.(Trixie/Twilight)(11 chapters) : The party hasn't ended(Pinkie/Dash)(16 chapters. I think maybe more)
