I'm new. It would seem relevant to provide a brief description of myself, so that is what I shall attempt to provide. I'm an amateur musician and an almost-professional audio engineer. I enjoy or appreciate pretty much every genre of music, but I have a special fondness for big band swing, rockabilly, and some of the more intellectual music of the 80's. In my own music, I tend towards rock but with significant influences from other genres, especially funk. Aside from music, I enjoy literature, philosophy, misanthropy and ponies. Especially ponies. I joined this forum looking to enjoy fellowship and conversation with other bronies, and hopefully to make some new friends. So, hi! Now, time to look for an avatar...
Hello there my good sir! Welcome to Everypony! I hope you enjoy your stay, have fun and if you need ANYTHING just ask!
Benny Goodman for the win? Perhaps "The Mask" soundtrack. I can't think of an example. Welcome to the Cotton Alley.
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! Yes, philosophy does deal with the abstract rather than the concrete ideas that the scientific process would tackle, but some things cannot be answered by science. For one, the validity of science itself. The scientific process assumes that the laws of mathematics and logic are true and immutable, but it cannot prove that they are. That is where philosophical conjecture would come in. Benny Goodman, all of my yes. As for "intellectual" music of the 80's... certainly nothing that was on the radio, or MTV at the time... there was some musically interesting funk/fusion stuff going on, and a few bands who were unfortunately judged for their pop/rock radio hits, who then later wrote some fantastic material that was completely forgotten. I'm rather fond of Winger's 3rd album, "Pull," which was nothing like their obnoxious "hit songs." There was Skid Row, who actually learned to write lyrics, but only after their fame had all but died. And of course, Stevie Ray Vaughan was from the 80's.
