This is probably TL;DR...but I felt that I needed to share this

Well, I finally did it, after weeks of fearing that I'd be rejected and lose my best friend, I decided to finally tell him. I always fear the worst with most situations and had been afraid of admitting my "secret" to someone. I am in my senior year in high school, so in my eyes, admitting I am a brony didn't seem like a good choice, unless I wanted to be the laughing stock during my last year of high school. Originally I wanted to wait for the year to finish, but that is much too long to wait, and I felt terrible that I hadn't shared my experiences with someone. I couldn't tell him in school because we see each other only in one class in which isn't quiet, and we can't talk. Texting him would have been really awkward. So... Enter Xbox Live. Usually its just me and him online together, so I saw the opportunity and took it. I started really slow by asking "Have you ever liked something that you were afraid to admit, in fear that others would hate you for it?" He said "Yea", so then I said it. "I like the show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic." Thinking that I was joking he said "Are you being serious?" I then took the time to explain to him that the brilliant Lauren Faust is the creator, and I listed her past cartoon creations. He loved Powerpuff Girls as a kid, so I was starting to feel better thinking "Maybe he'll understand!" I went explaining that its not the same My Little Pony that everyone thinks it is. Its a funny show with amazing story, exciting characters with their own feelings and aspirations, all tied together with beautiful design and amazing animations. His response was "Wow, that was really brave of you to say. Since you seem to like this show, I'll give it a try." I felt so happy! So I have my fingers crossed that I can get him to love the show, so that I'll have someone to share the experience with!

Sooo, my questions are: Have you told a friend you are a brony? What were your feelings before and after telling your friend? And was it successful? Discuss.

Congratulations! Sayin' that you're a brony is extremely difficult at first.
Trust me, some people hate it, but most'll just say "Meh." n' move on.
    Congrats on your victory!!

I'm on the fence whether or not I should be an open brony. I want to buy some brony t-shirts, but I'm afraid of ridicule. And being a new college student next year, I'm not sure how that would go.

I'm open about it in High School, and All I get is Meh.
I've even converted some of my best friends.
College, I don't know about. Try asking DRD.

    Lets see.
-Everyone is cool about it, except this one person that goes on FA. Apparently she's annoyed of all the pony art that shows up on FA.
    -Met a brony, not-so-open as I am.

Well that pretty much what college is for me.

I'm a fairly open Brony, considering a lot of my friends IRL are as well.

    ...did I just rhyme?

Thanks everyone. I'm now starting to lean toward becoming more open about being a brony. Once again I'm probably over reacting and it should go just fine. :derpe:

College is generally a VERY open minded place, and if you wear your loves on your sleeve right off the bat, the more likely you are to find true friends more quickly! ^_^

Thanks for the advice! That makes alot of sense actually. Even in my senior class there are so many people who are STILL immature, completely stereotypical, and have no respect for anything or anyone other than themselves, their feelings, and their possessions. Basically - anything out of the norm for them is "stupid" which is completely false, but no one seems to get that into their heads.:DFH:

Since college is more of an adult setting, being open with my feelings shouldn't attract too much negative attention.

Good Job! Everypony knows it's pretty hard in the beginning, but in the end, you just don't care anymore if others like it or dislike it :p
I've had a few problems at the matter as well, took me bout 2 weeks till i told my best friends. They were quite shocked, and taunted me with it, in a friendly way :p, but i already got one em to try the show and now he is hooked as well :D.

The most suprised people were my female-friends (iii really dont know how you say it decently in english XD), they are actually the most stubborn (thinking only little girls watch the show, but don't wanna try it themselves), one of my best friend's girlfriend really doesn't like that he watches the show now, normally it's the male gender that acts like this :p

Next year, when i enter college, i'm gonna wear a pony shirt, not in high school, too many immature people...

Geez, hearing this I can't wait for college myself. *in 4th of 6 classes highschool :C *

My friends know I'm a brony, and they are cool with it.
I wear pony shirts sometimes, but so far I haven't gotten any reactions save the occasional ಠ_ಠ , :p , or 'wat' glance.
So that's a good thing on the one hoove, but on the other hoove I'd really like to get some response from another fan. But alas, I haven't encountered anything pony-related yet outside the world of my computer.

One day... *looks at the moon*

But anyhow, congratulations! This must be a big relief for you :]

Boy do I have a story to tell.

I told my best friend about the show, only a few days after I discovered it. I wasn't afraid in the least and recommended he check it out.

Few days later a video goes up on his Youtube channel, telling MLP:FiM fans to grow up. I was quite terrified I had lost him as a friend.

But then, he surprisingly showed up at my house wanting to hang out and I spent a few hours telling him about my reasons for loving the show, that go above and beyond the show itself. He was very cool about it and apologised for the video.

As the months went on, my love for the show started to look more and more credible to him. As my Youtube channel had an explosion of subscribers and views and I started finding and making dozens of Real Life friends that proved to him that I was part of not in a minority.

Then just this week, my producer, for a Live TV shoot I am in the crew for, was tearing his hair out from stress. Because he couldn't find someone to interview in our show. So then a classmate made the suggestion I was always to afraid to make. "What about one of Setzetrancer's Brony friends". The producer instantly loved the idea and so now a brony who is the founder of my local brony facebook group, which has 160 members is going to appear on local TV.

Now because I made that and several other things I don't have time to go into detail about. I am one of the most loved and appreciated bronies in my city.

Best decision I ever made to be an open brony.

Also my friend recently removed the anti-brony video, even though I never asked him to. Which is why I can't link it.

I actually spoke to a friend about this once, about how strange it was that people who barely know me expect to conform to a strict set of "norms" if I'm otherwise to be considered as "strange".

Since, I just havn't cared...my set of norms are much broader than theirs And I'm glad they live in a world that gives them the oppertunity to have free thoughts and opinions of me. Some of my old friends just seemed to abandon me but I've found new friends since, and i have never been more proud to have such great friends.

But anyway im ranting, Nice way to score on coming out of the stable, you go for it man!

    I'm still in high school,
And it doesn't seem to be drawing negative attention.
Either that, or I'm completely oblivious to it.

    In any case,
Convincing your Physics teacher to show the class Pony
video on 3 different occasions has so far resulted in:

Class being of opinion that Rainbow Dash is OP.

    Anywho;
People of practically any age can have immature tendencies.
They may oft refuse to consider opposing opinions,
Or label anything that they see as abnormal or stupid as such.

    Whatever the matter,
Be steadfast in what you consider awesome.
Letting others decide that for you won't get you far in life.

It was never a big deal to tell my best friend, he's closer then a brother to me and I knew he'd be okay with it even if he didn't understand. Though I still felt a bit uneasy when i told him. I wanted to share this wonderful thing I had found, only reason I havn't forced him to watch it is he moved out of state over a year ago. I send him text with ponies all the time now. I think it annoys him a little, but that is the price he pays for never calling me.

My family is another story, don't have a reason to tell most of them. My cousin (who is like a sister to me) found out when I was helping her clean up her kids toys. She was putting them into Keep, Goodwill, and Throw away piles. As I was sitting next to the goodwill pile I saw an Applejack fly by me and into it. My reaction was a quick grab and a shout "You're giving this away?". Needless to say that was an awkward moment. I basicly refused to give details as she wasn't really going to understand, and still dosen't. I tryed to answer her questions but I was rather embarrassed. I got my first MLP toy out of it. Also got a Fluttershy found a few minutes later, just the ones you got out of happy meals and they made me happy alright. Also I now have someone to watch it with, her 11yr old loves the show too. I know more about the show then she does.

That is basicly my story on the people that do know. And I did get picked on a little at first but got past that mostly. Her little boy does most of that as he doesn't understand why a guy would like a girls show. He's goten used to it for the most part though not a fan..... yet.
