Greetings Everypony! Some of you may know me, others don't. I am Eight Star, general unicorn artist, fanfic writer, linguist, and hardly interesting. What I've brought you here for is a competition. One that will test your artistic prowess. The Goal: To create a piece of art which most closely resembles the subject matter. Each month I will give an ambiguous subject, and you ponies will try to come up with something that resembles the subject. The simplist thing would be a drawing, digital or traditional, that is uploaded and then PM'd to me. However, I encourage musicians and writers to, if they feel so inspired, feel free to try their hoof at it. The Prize: One short-ish fiction written by yours truely with a premise of your choosing. Characters and general plot are all yours to pick or create. If you're wondering "does this guy really think he's all that?" You can read over "Of Her Master," a short fic I wrote about Pickpear and Eight Star, and make your own decision of me. The short and clean version is under the FanFics section of Everypony. Runners-up will receive honorable mentions, and if there's room for them in the fic, they may play a minor role. How Submissions Are Judged: Me and a team of two un-biased experts, (because they don't know you ponies,) will grade works on skill, calculated effort, and how well the submission matches the subject. Skill will account for up to 6 points, effort will account for up to 4 points, and submission matching the subject will account for up to 10 points. So, ponies of any skill level are encouraged to enter. While one pony may submit more than one item in a month, only the last item submitted will be judged for your placing. Submission Times & Methods: You have the option of sending your submission through PM, or if you're confident with everypony seeing it before the deadline, you may post it here. Submissions must have been started and finished during the month that the subject is in play. Submissions do not have to be specifically for this contest to be posted as long as they follow the time constraints. The deadline for each month is precisely the time that, in EST, the calendar month changes. Given the month-long deadline, leeway will only be given under very rare circumstances. December's Subject: The subject for December is: The Spirit of Hearth's Warming Eve Any questions? If you ask; "Does it have to be pony related?" The answer is no, but remember that Hearth's Warming Eve, (specifically,) is the MLP holiday, and so to be closer to the subject, you would want to involve ponies. If you ask; "I don't really like fanfics, can I have a different prize?" Then the answer is yes. We can come to a compromise based on how good your submission was. Current Alternate Prizes: A Steam Game of up to $30 worth.
Of course. It's open to anypony, as long as you make, and then submit your entry by the end of December. A good 33 day deadline. I hope to pick up quite a few entries.
I may just have to write something! ...Emphasis on "may," seeing as I often procrastinate HARD on stuff.
I would totally join, but i can't art Wait, how about forum signatures with pre-drawn images and such? I can art that much, i suppose.
That would fall under photoshopping, which is currently a recognized form of art. As long as you can cite where you got your images.
Absolutely! I look forward to your participation. Actually, I look forward to everypony's participation. Both me and my judges are excited to see what comes of this. Honestly, I am hoping for at least one musical number from somepony, but I'm not sure of the chances. Oh, I forgot to mention. Each new subject will be listed within 5 days of the next month, to ensure that the full month will still be usable for your deadline. That is, if there is enough participation to continue the contest into another month.
No? Pity. Well, you can still check out the items that do get submitted. I'm thinking of increasing the prize a bit, but that's because the original winning prize feels a little egotistical... kinda.
Like you said yourself, not everyone might like fanfics. So maybe it's for the best you think of a few additional prizes anyway.
I was thinking that one of the alternate prizes could be a game purchase on Steam of no greater than $30.
Yay! A premise for my next musical piece! Even if I don't meet deadline... that's okay. I'll be happy to give it a shot, anyways. (Estimated Time of Completion--early January). Lolz.
