I'm sure you've all seen them, whether it be on Derpibooru, 4chan, or any of the other image boards out there. Usually poorly drawn, often being portrayed as victims of tortures that would make an axe murderer squeamish, are the fluffy ponies. The question I find myself asking, over and over, is what kind of person sees a creature that is meant to be sweet, innocent, and loving, and immediately thinks, "Hey! Let's draw it being killed!" Perhaps I'm over-thinking this, but I can't help but be concerned that there are so many people out there that enjoy these images. On the other side of the coin are the so-called "hugbox" pictures, that show the fluffies being happy, being cute, and being loved. I'll admit, I greatly prefer these pictures to the alternative. My question is, what do the rest of you think of fluffy ponies? Are they a cancer in the fandom, a source of entertainment, or just something that you prefer to ignore?
There are fluffy ponies besides fluffle puff? Well... I'm sure, just like clop, some people will ensure it always is part of our fandom, whether we like it or not, and the news media will think we all like it.
I personally feel that all grimdark is a bit of a cancer to the fandom, to be honest. Reason being that putting these brightly colored pastel ponies in situations involving blood, gore and grisly demises is kind of...sort of...vastly, wildly, superlatively, hyperbolically incompatible with the spirit of the source material. Frankly, I see grimdark as the lowest form of entertainment within the fandom (yes, even lower than clop - ponies in pleasurable situations >>>>> seeing them decapitated), much like slasher films are the lowest form of horror to me. Nothing personal to anyone who really enjoys grimdark, I'm not judging. I just wish you'd keep it away from the general public, unlike the tool who makes the "HD" animations and posts them on YouTube. As for the fluffy ponies themselves, I'm pretty indifferent to them. Luckily I haven't seen many pony art galleries flooded with the shoddily drawn ones you mentioned, but the most popular one, Fluffle Puff, at least seems well-designed to me. Even if she does come off as totally braindead.
Seeing as fluffy ponies are more of a fan creation, I really have no opinion towards the way they are portrayed. I am far less bothered by a gory animation about what are essentially just bad OCs than I would be with, lets say a gory video or fanfic about the mane 6 such as Cupcakes. Even that doesn't REALLY bother me as I tend to stay away from those types of things but the mane 6 are part of a children's show and I prefer to see them within that context. Basically, fluffy ponies aren't canon so I really don't care.
Yea idk what's up with the fluffy pony art. I like most grimdark works (creepy factor moreso than gore/shock) but fluffy ponies in particular is kinda weird but eh, stranger things are made. I have a feeling that a lot of it is done out of irony - cute things in horrible situations. Grimdark in general IMO is not a cancer to the fandom. Certain grimdark is done really well and there's a lot of neat art to appreciate if you can get into it and if you can weed out the gross and shocking stuff. It just suits a certain crowd. Honestly in the end, look at whatever art you like. They're not really doing harm, and image sites have blacklists for a reason. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
As someone who love Cthulhu Mythos and some Grimdark I will say there a line I draw with my story reading. 1: Gore is usually off my grimdark. When you decide to make your story Jason: MLP Edition it's boring and crude. 2: Rape, flat out NO. 3: Psycological Horror is good when it's done right. Story Of The Blanks is a good example (It's not really their just AB's fear of the unknown catching up to her and Everfree Magic) So grimdark can be done well, but most I find is gore34 and cutter-smut.... IT's kinda jarring and I feel like (hopefully) they are just doing it to shock people.
Hey can anybody help with and answer some questions I have about the MLP Card Game Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't mind Grimdark if it's trying to be entertaining or thrilling like a good horror story but if it's its made for sick reasons, then I'm out. the animations of Cupcakes & Smile HD were okay because it wasn't taken seriously and just showed some brutal imagery, but It wasn't causing any harm to the viewer (Kinda?). 90% of Grimdark Fanfic's are terrible because they usually involve what UnityOfFactors mentioned. Creepy artwork is okay but full on Gore, Rape or anything that shows pain is a no go. Pinkamena for example, can be cool when she's shown as a strange and unbalanced figure.
