    Hello,

A few days ago I was having a regular episode of insomnia. I started watching television at about four in the morning, flipping through the infomercials and paid programming and what not. I briefly played the TBN drinking game before deciding that I didn't want to go to classes and work drunk (I'm a college student and tobacconist). Shortly before eight, I looked at the TV guide and saw that My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic would be coming on soon. There wasn't anything else on, and I like animated films like the Lion King and such, so I decided that the pony show could be a nice change from the dreary stuff on earlier. Plus, my room mate was asleep and I didn't expect him to be waking up anytime soon.

And the rest, as they say, is history. I was surprised at how much I like this show! It has a certain charm and humor that is free of the pseudo-dramatic pretentious haze that most TV programs these days have, especially the children's programming that my younger sister watches on the Disney channel. That being said, I still feel kind of weird for enjoying the show. When my room mate heard my laptop playing the into music to an episode, he asked what it was, and I said My Little Pony, which he didn't believe was the whole truth, but he didn't ask anything else. Sometime I think I will have to establish that yes, I like watching My Little Pony and yes, I will decide to apply that desktop wallpaper of Pinkie Pie that I downloaded but have been a bit nervous to actually put up.

Speaking of Pinkie Pie, Pinkie Pie is my favorite character on the show. I love her confidence and optimism, and she may be the only "hyper" character in any show that I have liked. She also has a wealth of talent for a lot of different things that she doesn't impose upon others, like Trixie does with magic or Rainbow Dash with aerobatics. I wish more cartoon characters were not always the wallowing conflicted type and more like Pinkie Pie. Add this this her comedic side and her fourth-wall maneuvering and I don't see how she couldn't be everyone's favorite. I like Rarity and Fluttershy too, but Pinkie Pie takes the pie.

I'm not a big fan of Twilight Sparkle, but I understand that main characters in children shows are always sort of like her archetype, so I don't care that much either way. The only character in the show I dislike is Spike. I didn't like Scrappy Doo either. Every time Spike opens his mouth I roll my eyes. Seriously, what is the point of his character? To be an annoying and irrelevant nuisance? I would think at the least that for such a common character that they could have at least made him a male pony with a bit more depth of character. His whole crush on Rarity is like a big "oh, please, jump off the script and die" thing for me.

Oh yeah, my name - Manehattanite - I'm from Manhattan, currently at school in Ohio. I bit my lip at the scene where Apple Jack goes to the city. Is that what people think of New Yorkers? They were practically British! People in Ohio say to me 'You don't seem like the stereotypical New Yorker'. Oh well. We have horses you know, in Central Park. And we have Belmont in Queens. So that counts for something.

Anyway, looking forward to all the fun discussions here. Seems like a cool place!

That is a really cool story Manehattenite! Thank goodness for your insomnia on that night! Welcome to Everypony, the coolest pony spot on the Internet. Glad to see another Fluttershy and Rarity fan, even though they are eclipsed by Pinkie. I do hope you decide to stay for good, it's always nice to have a new arrival. Praise Fluttershy!!

Welcome to the herd Manehattanite! It's awesome that you discovered and willingly watched ponies on your own! There are a lot of people that much be forced into such a predicament against their will, only to realize they are absolutely in love with the show! And don't be afraid to put up Pinkie Pie! Who cares what other people think, as long as you have bronies that you can talk to at the end of the day! Speaking of bronies, Hi! My name is HarleyCyn but you can just call me Harley! Technically speaking I'm a girl but my OC (who I stole the name from) happens to be a guy o_O talk about gender confusion. Anyway - I love Pinkie but I think my favorite is Fluttershy, definitely Fluttershy or psychotic Pinkie. But my ALL TIME FAVORITE out of the entire series has to be Big MacIntosh! Eeyup! Anyway - I hope you enjoy your time here at the forums! And I hope to catch you on EveryPony Radio! Which is like, my second home, I'm almost always there whenever I have free time! And, let me tell you, I have lots of free time! Again welcome to the herd and glad you could join us! ^___^ You sound awesome!

Welcome to the herd, Manehattanite! You are now officially 20% cooler in 10 seconds flat! As for the view of Manehattanites in the show, well, that is a different place than New York City, so don't take offense. Also, it was probably somewhat colored by Applejack's experience.

Expect a lot more of strange opinions of New Yorkers - when I tell people I'm from California, they want to know if I went surfing every day! *shakes head*

I'm sure you'll have fun here - I actually look forward to visiting this site.

Oh god, I hate when people keep asking if I surf. Especially when the closest beach is at least 2 hours away if not more. D: Why are Californian's stereotyped as surfers? I don't understand it, I really don't!

Well, California does have the longest coastline of any state in the U.S, and its beaches are rumored to be quite lovely. It's always about being known for beaches, just like Florida. I wouldn't know anything about that since I live in North Carolina.

Anyway, welcome to Everypony, Manehattanite! I've only ever been to Buffalo, but I hope to see one of the big cities some day. The only big city I've really ever been to is Atlanta, since I used to live in Georgia and...aw crap, I went off on a tangent again. Sorry. So yeah, welcome.

I see your wall of text and raise you a wall of text.

This is a wall of text. You have one like it, but this one is mine. It develops it's subject quite well. For one, it congradulates your descent into bronydom, for you have ascended above the normal neighsayers and hayters. This text of walls also tends to make mistakes and contradictions, as seen just now, and now again. It also contains severe amounts of TL;DR, and other useless gibberish. It reminds us to PRAISE FLUTTERSHY, and that failure to do so will result in our being SACRIFICED TO THE BLOOD-BUNNY. It also contains redundandtly redundant redundancy. It is overly descriptive of itself, almost to the extent of narcissism and vanity.

    Welcome to this mortal herd.

This gives me the impression that there may have been a significant number of members who have been eaten by some internets-dwelling, brony-eating monster that worships Fluttershy.

Thanks Harley, but how do you mean by "catch [me] on EveryPony Radio"? How do I contribute? Am I expected to?

    I didn't consider this, that's definitely a good point.

    Alaska? Florida?

    Sounds familiar...

    Maybe I'm on to something...

Not only that, I'm a member.

Hey there, Manehattanite! Welcome to Everypony!

What a marvelous introduction, by the way. I enjoyed reading it. Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy are essentially tied in 1st place for me. It's a shame you don't like Spike, but I can respect that. He's actually my favorite non-mane-six character. I've noticed that some label him as a "douche bag," but I think he just likes to kid around. I think he's an all around good guy. Also, there have been times he's said some useful things like when he was trying to convince Twilight that showing off her magic isn't the same thing as how Trixie was, but Twilight, for some reason, said it was exactly the same thing. I thought, "Really, Twilight? Really?!" I won't delve into this any further though. There's a character discussion forum for that.

As for views toward New Yorkers, I, unfortunately, have a confession to make. I know where some negativity can come from. I grew up in southern New Jersey by the Jersey shore and I can tell you that a lot of people there have bad views of New Yorkers. Not you, though. You're a brony, so you're cool. *brohoof* :D

I'm referring to the ones that would always come down to the shore during the summertime acting like they owned the place. I know this from experience working in retail and it was usually the New Yorkers that had displayed unwavering arrogance and would talk down to the locals like they were some kind of "commoner" because they happened to own a large beach house and have a lot of money. Now, I know it wasn't all of them, but, unfortunately, it's usually the bad few that ruin the reputation for everyone else. I actually have some family that live in New York state and some that live on Long Island, so I know for a fact that it isn't everyone that's like that. Then again, I've also heard/seen some bad things about individuals from Jersey. Take that stupid South Park episode about New Jersey, for example. Very few of us actually talk/act like that. Granted, I thought the episode was funny despite its grotesque inaccuracies. After all, it's not meant to be accurate, just humorous. Well, I don't want to digress into rants on stereotypes and misconceptions. I've since moved out to Pennsylvania to attend college anyway.

I've been to New York City several times, but it's been many years since I last visited. I've been to Central Park as well. I used to have relatives that lived in Manhattan, but after 9/11 and the Northeast Blackout of 2003, they decided they had enough and moved upstate. NYC is nice, but I'm more of a suburban kind of guy. I've always lived in suburbia. So the city can be overwhelming for someone like me.

Phew. I think this is the longest reply I've ever made in an introductory thread. Congratulations! lol

Once again, welcome to the site, and I hope you enjoy your stay and I look forward to any other posts you make. :)

Yes, that's something I've been wondering, too, since I saw your cutie mark. Not that I'm one, but you see them all over the place where I live for a very good reason...

Eh, what? How that? A remote HSV member, or do you actually come over here every once in a while?

I used to have family in Hamburg, whom I visited every year or so. I went to an HSV match a couple times and fell in love with the team and the Bundesliga. The atmosphere makes most American sports venues seem stale.

Ah, okay. Well, in case you do decide to come over here again, maybe there'll be some time for a miniature brony meeting (seeing as this city seems to lack bronies).

And while I'm not an HSV fan, may that team finally get out of their current sucking phase.
