So generally I never post on forms but I feel like I need to vent out my frustrations out some how and I thought the best my would be to discuss what bothering me with others. To start out I'm 17 and I have OCD. Not like hand washing or things have to be in a specific order, it's more along the lines of something bothers I can't stop obsessing about it, which doesn't sound so bad but its not a cakewalk by any means. When I first became a brony I had no problems with being one I just watched a show occasionally and watched videos on youtube, even haters didn't bother me that much, sure I got a little annoyed every now and then but nothing to the extent of depression. But after exploring the internet over the course of 2 years I've read something's that honestly bother me a bit. Talk of castration genocide and murder bothers me regardless of who's it's directed at but for once I'm who it's directed at, is all this hate really deserved? I've never hurt anybody but yet people hate me because I watch a T.V show. What the hell! I mean come on, why can't people simply respect one and other? I understand people have opinions and not everybody can like the same thing but this goes beyond simply disliking a show. What about common decency? Why is it so hard for people to respect others opinions and interests?
As far as I can figure, the hate directed at the brony community is exactly the same hate that is directed at anything that threatens insecure people and what is considered "normal". Gender issues are a VERY touchy subject and honestly, the absolute and total hate for MLP and it's fan bases, just screams of societal misogyny and homophobia. If guys can like things made for girls, it legitimizes feminine things and directly threatens the patriarchy which really angers people that want to maintain that.
This is a common problem for every person in this world. No matter what you do, who you are, and how you live, someone out there will say horrible things about you and direct all their anger and hate your way. Some people do not truly mean it. You are, to them, merely a target. Others truly hate you for some reason. Do you deserve hatred? No one deserves hatred. Why do they do it? The reasons are many, but usually begin with ignorance and conformity, so do not blame them for their foolishness. It is, as they say, human nature, and can only be cured with education and care (and a certain distance from those that hate you).
