So I know this show is kind of dubious when it comes to it's own mythology, and I'm not one for taking head canon notions seriously but this has been bothering me for a while. In Hearts and Hooves Day, we learn the holiday started because a prince and princess fell madly in love due to a love potion. While the prince is just a unicorn, the princess is an alicorn and the results of their love was massive untold chaos. If we are to believe Hearth's Warming Eve, that Equestria existed before Celestia, Luna, and Discord, then why do I get the feeling that the princess who fell in love was Celestia and the untold chaos that rose from that manifested itself into/released/whatever Discord. In Return to Harmony, Celestia says that Discord ruled before she and her sister "stood up to him". So it's possible that he took over after maybe defeating the sisters, who were already princesses at the time. (Note: by the show's logic, every alicorn is a princess, "you look just like a princess" - Fluttershy, Magical Mystery Cure, though not every princess is an alicorn i.e. Princess Platinum of the Unicorn tribe). Maybe I'm over analyzing everything (also really bored). The princess in the Hearts and Hooves legend may have been someone different or may not have existed at all. I'm probably just desperate for this world to have a strong backstory, especially when it seems involve enemies who are at least over a thousand years old and a lot of important things seeming to happen before the battle with Nightmare Moon. Still, whenever I do see some head canon video on YouTube about the history of Equestria, the Hearts and Hooves day legend is never really brought up.
