Prepare for a fairly lengthy introduction from a newcomer; My online identification is, as you might have guessed, BarrensZeppelin, old name/old joke. There's more to it than that though, I'm currently located in Denmark and recently started studying at High School. I started watching MLP FiM before summer, a friend was bashing it really hard, so I couldn't resist checking out what all the fuss was really about. You probably all know the story, watching the first episode and then thinking 'what the *squee!*'. I continued to watch it though, and it grew on me. When I finished watching the series, I wasn't sure what to do, I was unsure about what to tell my friend, who had recently bashed the fandom for being childish, being meant for little girls. I knew no other bronies around in Denmark, so I set the fandom on standby for summer, not because I was ashamed of it, more because I didn't know what to do with it. In the end of summer I discovered a youtuber, a danish brony known as LasseMedHatten who was a great inspiration to me, and at same time as this was happening, I set myself up with tumblr. That must have been like a month ago or something. But oh my god was I surprised to find ponies everywhere, I fell in love with it again, the whole fandom, the brony community. I became more aware of myself and more aware of my identity as a whole. I have recently been crying silent man-tears over sobby fanfics, and my iPod is clugging up with music made by and for bronies. And here I am, writing an introduction of myself on a forum meant for bronies, the group of people I found myself to be a part of. I've been wondering about a thing though, most of my inner friends know that I am a brony and doesn't have problem with it, how do I explain my affection with this fandom to others? Likes: Fluttershy/AJ, Electronical Music, video games, fantasy books. Dislikes: Rarity, pop, television and films in general. Hey there, BarrensZeppelin! Welcome to Everypony! I hope you enjoy your stay with us! Very nice introduction. As for being shy in the EPR chat, I can understand that. I lurked EPR for about 3 weeks before I decided to join the forums and finally decide to chat. Start off by just saying hello to everypony in the chat. More likely than not, you'll be greeted by quite a few of the chatters there. If not, shame on them! We pride ourselves in being a very welcoming community, so feel free to jump into a conversation anytime (whether it be in the EPR chat or on the forums). If you want to get your username on here changed, send a private message to Grey Nightmare or Derpy Hooves explaining to them why you want it changed. I'm sure they'll be able to help you out with that. I hope you don't mind if I interject, but your logic here is a bit flawed. "Fandom" is NOT a term used for furries. "Fandom" is just a term for a group of individuals that have a particular interest in something. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we are a fandom. We are also an Internet subculture. Also, although many of us are not furries, myself included, there are furries within our community and I'm unsure whether or not they'll take offense to what you've said.
