Well, first thing's first: what program are you using? Depending on your answer, I may or may not be able to help you.

    Okay, better questions-
    1. Do you have a tablet?
    2. How long have you drawn for?
    3. Can you draw ponies without any tracing?
    4. What version of Photoshop?
    5. What OS?
    6. How long have you used Photoshop?

You'll need a vector drawing program like Adobe Illustrator or Autodesk Sketchbook, as far as I know photoshop won't cut it doesn't support vector drawing, only free hand.

Proper vector programs correct your drawing, they can mathmatically draw between several points and allow you to manipulate 'vectors' in real time by moving said points, in it's simplest form several programs that seem to straighten your freehand lines support vectors. Flash again, supports vectors (FiM's catalyst no less).

I've never used GIMP but seeing.as.Adobe develop illustrator and shop it wouldn't surprise me at all if photoshop didn't as that'd force you to buy two pieces of software for more $$$

applejak-earthpony, and everypony else interested: Earlier versions of Fireworks will work great as well. Illustrator is not worth the work you'll have only to install and learn how to use it. Not to mention pretty much ALL keygens I've tested do not work.
