You do matter Bronies, you have always mattered. When we all watched the first episode of this show, something sparked to life inside us. We looked at this microcosm of happiness, fun, excitement and adventure and immediately noticed that something was missing from it. Would you believe the something missing was our own shock and disgust? How is it that a show meant for little girls, ages 5-9 could reach out and touch the lives of thick skinned emotionally reserved men ages 13-30 and remind us that we used to feel just like that. We were always kind to others and acted properly because it was good to do. Somehow that got perverted in us as we aged. Society is to blame but mom and pop aren't too far from that circle of responsibility either. MLP didn't give us anything new. There's nothing in this show that's new under the sun. What MLP has done for Bronies is remind us what we were, what we have always been and what we want to be towards others. We haven't stopped being men nor have we become infantile in our world views; we've just stopped behaving like fools. To that end, we gathered together and created a site where we could unite under our common banner of Love and Tolerance for everyone Brony and otherwise. This is ours because it has always belonged to us. We've just found the courage to express it openly through the convenient rule set of the show and its characters. And because it is ours, we have the obligation to protect it from those who would polute it with their own agendas and poor behaviors. We have the right to protect it and must administer just and adequate changes to our community policies and services to reflect our position. The greatest cruelty is to have something precious stolen by a thief welcomed in as a friend. This is why, with vigilant eye, I have helped to identify these recent intrusions into our movement by those who want to use us as a vehicle for their LULZ or their fetish fantasies. That is not who we are and it certainly is not what Bronies are. One year ago, a woman of incredible skill and vision gifted us with a show so well put together that it turned the cold heart of the hacker, made the cynic cry and galvanized the good and kind little man inside all of us that we'd locked away deep down in the depths of our hearts just to get through our miserable lives. He's only had a breath of fresh air for a year. Are we ready to give up on that now, so soon after finding this freedom? I refuse to give up on you, Bronies.
That... was one of the most heartwarming things I've read in this site. Virgil, you truly are good with words. I could never have written any of this better myself.
Heh, you said this on the radio when we were discussing art. I guess an artist is as good with words as he is with a pencil.
Very eloquently put Virgil, your ability to articulate your message into literary form is just...amazing. However, what I truly loved about this thread is the content of the message and I agree with you 100%. MLP has impacted my life in a pretty big way...it brings innocence, kindness and joy into my soul, it makes me nostalgic for days I have long forgotten, yet it has also made me want to be a better person since the first day I watched the show. The meaning of brony, and the message to all who watch MLP, is a sort of contagious goodness. Friendship, Tolerance, Love and Understanding; and that should be protected. You made my day Virgil, thank you.
If I could make this the first thing anyone sees when they get on the site I would, but since I can't I'll just say this: I agree with this point 100% I could end up ranting for hours about this point, but in 3 paragraphs you've said probably one of the most meaningful posts on the site.
Virgil, you are a lyrical wordsmith. I want to give you a medal of some kind, but I'm can't so I'll do the second best thing. *hug* *brohoof*
Thanks for all the wonderful memories, Everypony. But we're not done yet. Let's keep making more, together. As almost everypony else has stated, you've put into words what's in all of our hearts.
Pretty much sums up what I try to explain to everyone about watching the show. I saved that speech and will just have newcomers read it. When I first found out about the show I thought I was a freak, but then a week after I found out about Bronies. I have never felt more comfortable on a forum before. So far the only people I've told in my life are my brothers, 1 of my sisters, and one of my friends. Throughout my life my family has seemed to try and make me feel bad about things I did that were different, but I will never let them bring me down about this show. *Happy thoughts 24/7*
I don't think words can adequately express how much I agree with this statement. Awesomely well said Virgil.
I've might have jumped on the train late, a little bit more then a week ago, but you still accepted me as if i was here from the the start. Thank you, bronies. I've watched the first episode out of pure curiosity, and i watched the next one, because i liked the show, and the other ones too. Now i felt like a brony too, and I'm not ashamed of it. I'm happy. I found this great community, people who aren't scared to express themselves, people who don't judge. It was like a breath of fresh air that i hungered for for years. Again, thank you accepting me so warmly.
Amazing post Virgil. You know in the second episode when Twilight says: "A different kind of spark. I felt it the very moment I realized how happy I was to hear you, to see you, how much I cared about you. The spark ignited inside me when I realized that you all -- are my friends." Is pretty much what we all feel when we become a Brony, we instantly become generally happier and more open to friends. I used to be kind of like a Rogue and would back-stab my friends to benefit me, but right when I became a Brony its like that part of me never existed. It also got me to stop drinking and smoking and stop being depressed :3. MLP:FiM and you guys, Brony's; are the best thing that has EVER happened to my life. I LOVE YOU ALL ♥♥♥
Oh... I just want to start building on a better world right now. Guys, let's all build a better society! Together, we can make a difference. By showing kindness and tolerance against all odds. By not being mean and cruel, just because it's regarded the norm. And by just being ourselves. Not judging anyone, nor caring about being judged by others. I love you guys. The brony community reminds me of how much potential humankind truly has. If we just break through this wall of fear that keeps us devided and reluctant of each other, I'm sure the world can be a wonderfull place.
Very good, Virgil. It appears you've put into words what we've all felt, and couldn't quite express. There must be some sort of award for this! *Epic Brohoof*
