I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I drew something with you guys in mind.

    The line of thinking was:

*First I wondered how Pinkie Pie acts at New Years
*Then I assumed she'd be happy and perky
*So I drew her happy and perky
*And thought of you guys, and I figured Pinkie'd wanna say hi to everyone ^_^

So yes. Here's a Pinkie Pie with love from her and me =P

Anatomy issues abound and she's very shiny xD But overall, I'm very happy with her. She's the first pony I've drawn that's actually turned out. I'm also working on a Rainbow Dash/Starbuck (Rainbuck!) picture, for any Battlestar Galactica fans out there, haha.

Shiny or not, that is one ballin' pinkie pie. What did you use to draw her?

Pixel: Thank you ^_^ I used my little Wacom tablet and Painttool SAI. =)

Ronsta: Haha, thanks! She's a good first pony lol. I want to try and get better at drawing ponies. Well, better at drawing period, but yeah. I figured posting things to get a little positive feedback and constructive criticism would be good to keep me motivated and pointed in the right direction =)

    Same thing I use.

I am horrible at pony anatomy and you're a lot better at shading then me.

So I can't offer any help.

How I shade, which is really easy and a cop out xD, is I have my flats, and then for highlights I just choose a color that's a couple shades lighter on the color wheel, and a couple shades darker for shading. I just keep picking colors until I find some that look good, and then I use the selection wand to get just one body part at a time and use the airbrush to do shades/highlighting. I do it all on different layers too, so that I can tweak each part separately. Turning my shading down to 56% is what worked on all body parts this time, but sometimes they're all over the place, haha. Just play around and find what works the best for you =) I like easier ways. But several of my friends do this weird method where they start out with everything in a 50% grey (all black, then turn the layer opacity down to 50%), and then they do highlights/shading all in greyscale, and then color it. There's some layer options in there, but I honestly don't remember it. I tried it once or twice, it wasn't for me, so I forgot it.

I still trying difrent things for shading. It's just they never seem to be in the right spot or they just look out of place.

I just need to practice more.

Do you have a deviant art page.

I do. There's some... odd things on there. It's a mixture of photography, one or two written pieces, and then my drawing stuff.. My boyfriend and I are into expansion, so there's a lot of big poofy ladies too, haha. If you don't mind that, though, my DA is here.

This paint tool sai, I really should try it out, seems all good artists are using either that or flash. Is it free? Or will I have to shamefully use the piratebay?

It does cost money. So if you can't buy it,you may have to resort to other means.

Legally, it's not free (But the 30 day trial is, to see if you like the program). So you can figure out how you best want to acquire it =)

I really like SAI because it's like a streamlined photoshop. I used to use an...acquired version of PS, but once I got SAI, I actually like it better. And the price tag is better. If you buy SAI, it's only $60. At least, it was last time I checked. But it's actually meant for tablets, so it's just... easier xD Honestly, the only thing I miss about PS is the dodge and burn tool, because that's how I did my hair when I colored. But that's okay. I'm sure there's a way to get the same effect, if I looked hard enough and googled lol.

One thing I /really really REALLY/ like about SAI is in the upper right hand corner is a pull down menu, with like 0-12, and s1-27. That's the speed your stroke. 0 follows your pen exactly as you make the stroke. 2-7 slow it down and makes it really smooth. I use s-7 for inking because I have super shaky hands. It ensures I have nice smooth flowing lines.

Nice first! And thanks for the Happy New Year with us in mind.
I need to try SAI, I'm stuck on OpenCanvas because it's free, but it's a lot more tedious.

That reminds me, my avatar is out of date... gonna have to draw up a new one.
Also, may I ask, how long did this take you?

I'm super slow at drawing still xD From "I want to draw this!" to "Yay uploaded!" it took me about 3 hours.
