Hello everypony! I've been thinking about crafting somewhat cheesy valentines starring the mane six to give to a brony friend of mine (an eccentric woman) and I'm wondering whats the best way to make them on my computer. I'm sure some of you know I know very little about computer programs and techniques and I'm wondering whats the best way to make a simple image with fancy text valentine in the style of valentines they make for little kids. For anypony who doesn't know this is kind of the idea I'm basing these on in the links below. http://www.mygoodgreetings.com/STATIC/PRODUCTS/MAIN/LetsBeeValentines.jpg http://www.mygoodgreetings.com/STATIC/PRODUCTS/MAIN/HooLovesYouKids.jpg Obviously instead I'll have simple pictures of the mane six and I don't need ideas for text just crafting their appearance. I'd highly appreciate any input!
Sounds like you need Photoshop. Or Gimp, which is free and just as good Unfortunately I can't be more help than that, as all my image manipulation is done in Powerpoint... I know, I know. But yeah, I'd try Photoshop or Gimp. I'm sure somepony will be able to give you some pointers on actually using them.
Erm... I'd use adobe illustrator. Useful if you know what your doing with it, and great for fancy text... Or photoshop/fireworks. fireworks > photoshop, in my opinion.
Okay, well now my question is about layering. After messing around like a donkey on a construction site I was trying my best to at least start one of the valentines and I had an issue with layers. Does anypony know how to make a simple rectangular background and move a picture and text on top of it. By the way, I downloaded gimp because it's free but it pretty much has the same tools and extensive options as photoshop so people can speak intricately.
You want to open your initial image as the base or first layer, then layer everything you want over it. Honestly, I haven't had much like with it. I wanted to layer my cutie mark pics together, but ended up having to apply one to the other. A quick google search will net you guides on just about anything, though.
Thanks RonstaPony! Gimp is working great and it didn't cost me anything! If anyone's interested in seeing the work in progress (kind of lazily done with a few now) let me know although I admit they're pretty cheap.
Lol, that's funny I actually didn't even consider shipping the ponies. I wanted a phrase that went along with the certain ponies skill, i.e. Pinkie Pie = Smiles, in my book.
