I'm just wondering. Weird al sorta represented the eighties int he show... And so do a lot of other characters. But I'm buyer wondering, if all of you could vote for a mare that represents a different time, which time should she represent? The late 1960's and early seventies, 1950's and early sixties, late 1940's and early 1950's, the late 1930's and early 40's or the early 30's and late 20's... Just asking... I mean mlp shows a lot of stuff from the eighties, seventies and nineties already, if a new character were introduced, which era should she represent? And if ya think of someting, you can think of a good name for her... And for those artists.. You can show us what she would look like..
Nostalgia doesn't necessarily have to be from any set period of time. Nostalgia can stem from something that happened last year. If ever there were to be a Nostalgia pony introduced I personally believe she or he should represent the definition of Nostalgia in and of itself. I think a character that just does a lot of memorable things would more than likely be the perfect fit. In this scenario the percentage of references the show portrays would increase depending on the Nostalgia pony's appearances within the show. Nostalgia is different for each individual and really it comes down to what someone does or doesn't like. Some people liked the 60's, others liked the 70's. It'd definitely be a more difficult character to pull off having to give everyone that nostalgic feeling but it would be worth it. So if I had to choose I'd say ranging from the twenties to within the last several years.
Based on the Manehatten episode, and the technology that's been shown on the show, I'd say that Equestria is similar to late Forties-early fifties America. Considering that they're a bunch of magical talking horses, it's hard to pin it down exactly. Also, if you're a fan of nostalgia entertainment, and a Tumblr user, I'd recommend giving "Ask Vaudeville" a look.
I would love to a one off detective pony, in particular a sort of no nonsense, fast talking Rex Banner type that could probably range from the 20s to the 50s, constantly speaking to everyone in outdated slang.
1950's Era with strong stereotypes. Not sure if it'll be a positive representation of the time, but It'll certainly be interesting.
