Me and some friends of mine had this talk on Skype. I would like to see what everypony else here thinks. The Scenario: Equestria is about be destroyed. The only way to save Equestria is to perform a forbidden spell. The catch is that one of the three pony races (Pegasuses / Unicorns / Earth Ponies) will be wiped out. Even genetic traces of their DNA that are dormant in other ponies will be gone too, which means they would no longer be born from other pony races. You have to choose which of the three races would have to go extinct. What race would you have to decide? How would Equestria be affected by this decision?
Earth ponies, from what I remember, in the past all the did was farm. Nowadays they are just like every other pony.
Almost everyone on the Skype conversation chose Earth Ponies. So, I'm interested what the majority decision here would be.
I chose Unicorns due to the fact that without the pegasi controlling the weather, Equestrias weather would go into chaos. Earth ponies produce most of the crop so equestria would starve without them. Unicorns don't really have a extremely important roll in Equestria. They should probably change that :l

I always see earth ponies as true... "ponies" - Pegasi and Unicorns are exactly that (Pegasus and Unicorns respectively..<_<). So I couldn't choose them. Not sure who I'd choose actually. Hmm.
Earth ponies are pretty much useless. But in my opinion.If i had to choose genocide or letting the world die.I would let the world die.
I think that unicorns have less of a role in Equestria than the others... Dang it, sorry Sweetie Belle...
Now, hold on. If we eradicate either the Unicorns or the Pegasi, do the Alicorns die, too? Would we lose the cycles of the sun and moon? That could have drastic consequences. Assuming the Unicorns do not have time to create machinery for farming or weather control before the spell is cast, I might choose them. They contribute less to the everyday cycles of food and weather production than the other races. Pegasi and Earth Ponies likely know their way around their respective planes, sky and earth, better than the Unicorns do, and are probably more knowledgeable about growing crops and making rainbows and the like. However, there could be drastic consequences to removing the Unicorns. What if another disaster occurs? There would be nopony left who could cast magic spells to stop it. The merit of retaining the Unicorns is that: 1) They can remain behind to protect Equestria from future disasters. 2) They have the potential to learn the Earth Ponies' jobs. While not as attuned to nature, they could likely learn to perform them in their proper function. 3) As a unit, they might even be able to produce enough magic to control the weather and replace the Pegasi. Seeing this, it is imperative that the Unicorns remain. The Pegasi and Earth Ponies seem relatively dispensable by comparison. However, if removing the Pegasi might mean the loss of the Alicorns, then doing so is not an option. Unfortunately, I must say that the Earth Ponies would be the ones to go, as their jobs would likely be easier to teach to the Unicorns (a few books of instructions might be left behind), and the Unicorns themselves are the most versatile and necessary of the three groups. While rather depressing, this premise would make for an excellent fanfiction.
DAMMIT...... I don't know what to do! If I choose pegasi...then that means my family and I will be wiped out, if I choose unicorns it is as Dilly said, but if I choose Earth Ponies...I'll lose Applejack! ok. I've come to a conclusion, Wiping out any of the races is NOT a solution, all the races work hoof in hoof do stop anything that get's thrown at them, and removing one would just cause the others to fall. May I remind you how equestria was founded? The three races, although they fought, could not exist without eachother! The earth ponies grew food! The pegasi controlled the weather and gave rain when necessary And the unicorns controlled day and night! Of course it is a little different now, but that delicate balance is STILL there, therefore I conclude, solving one problem by wiping a race out, will just cause a bigger problem then the previous one! So... I choose none of them!
The most logical choice would be alicorns (y u no include in poll? ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)) There was a time when Equestria wasn't ruled by them. They can easily live without them.
Why would you make us choose. ;-; I can see why it would be earth ponies. Pegasi can fly and so can hold races and clear the weather and whatnot. Unicorns have horns, so they can use their magic to write letters or cast spells or whatnot. Earth ponies... Walk around like everypony else? Seems unfair. Though all my favorite ponies are earth ponies. :c I voted earth.
Nope. Nothing happens to them. I figured just including the three basic races would make the topic interesting. Alicorns just seem like a cheap answer. The point is to make a decision that isn't easy. And to think how that decision would shift Equestria.
Can't the alicorns just lose their wings or horns? For the sake of the argument, since its hard to think hypothetically I guess. :I
Why so much hate for earth ponies? </3 Logically, the only choice that would make sense would be Earth Ponies, since Unicorns can still farm land and do all sorts of stuff; but nobody can do something about the weather if there are no pegasi.
