I'm not much of a religious pony, but I often have trouble believing in coincidences.

Just small, somewhat meaningful things, usually positive, occasionally negative.

Like, for example, in Jewelry class, a project I've been working on was a silver ring (well technically sterling silver but we don't care about that). As the third mandatory project, everyone in the Beginners (which I am in) class would be doing it, and they'd all, in the end look more or less the same. Being that we have engravers and stuff at our disposal, I decided I'd put something on it to make it different, and, well, better.

I find and set it for a good size in which it fits well on basically all three of the middle, moderately sized fingers on my hand, and start working on it. As I work through, being as bad at evenness as I am, had to cut it a bit short at one point so that two ends of the piece of metal would meet up properly. When I'm almost done, I decide on what I want to engrave on it- basically, the last name/family name of the guy (who happens to not be real, so I thiiink that makes it less creepy~!<3 I have been in loves with for a loong time now in kanji form, which I now learned is really kinda freaking difficult.

    ENNNYYYWAAAAYYYY,

now, with his freaking name on it, and being considerably shrunken down due to difficulties, the only finger of mine it will fit on is my ring finger. The one that happens to be rumored (though not physically true, I think :u) to be directly connected to the heart, and a symbol of love and stuff.

So, yeah, I'll basically be walking around looking engaged, but, oh well. ^~^

Coincidence is merely up to interpretation and lacks meaning in itself.

I have always been open to the ideas of coincidence, fate, karma, serendipity, or whatever you wish to name it.

What I really think, though, is that, in essence, you get nothing of value unless you look for it. But if you really want something, you WILL find a way to get it. It's happened to me many times. Some might call it luck, I call it keeping your eyes open for every opportunity.

And, as you have found, mistakes and errors often can be turned into something positive. A little adjustment here and there, and suddenly, you have something kind of unexpected but pleasant.

My personal art form is building guitars. Not long ago I slightly miscalculated the angle that the neck on a new guitar was to be cut for, and set it at the wrong angle for the bridge I had intended to use. No problem, actually. I had another kind of bridge that I hadn't intended to use but was suitable for the job. So I put it on...and I think it's my favorite bridge style now. That particular guitar became an instant favorite of mine and it is absolutely not for sale. The bridge I used is a very important part of why I like it so much. My mistake ended up with me getting a better guitar out of it than I would have if I had not made that mistake and gone with the original plan.

I think that sometimes, mistakes are your subconscious mind deciding that there's a better way to do it, and forcing you to go in that direction.

I think Karma, as a belief idea, is too directly influenced to fall in line with the rest of them. Fate and Destiny are technically not something you're supposed to control, but Karma is something you're supposed to have a direct influence over.

Is it strange that I'm a religious pony, even a Christian pony, and yet I don't believe in fate or predestination?

no it is not strange at all it's just your outlook on the matter^

I however do believe in fate and all of the other terms already said, but that is because my religion calls for it at times.

I believe in the Karma system. Give a little, get a little. Do bad, you get bad.
I have a problem with "Fate" and "Destiny". They're all inconceivable concepts. You're what you want to be, it's not like something is written on a paper or something saying Person A is going to be a carpenter. Bla Bla Bla, this and that.
That's what makes me different. The concepts of "Fate" are unknown to me. There is no such thing, because what you set out to do is your own decision.

I'm not religious at all. I'm not an atheist though, I consider myself agnostic. I would go into the reasons why, but I don't want to start a debate. I respect all others' beliefs even if I don't agree and I expect others to respect my beliefs as well. I've never believed in fate or destiny. Although, I have sometimes referenced karma from time to time in my life, but it was usually used in jest (no offense intended). I'm all about scientific and mathematical evidence. Science and/or math have to be able to explain it for me to believe it, otherwise I'll either just not believe it or, in the case of my agnosticism, leave the idea open until it is proven either way (exists or not). I have had some coincidences in my life. Some were really big. One of them saved the life of one of my relatives. While most are just relatively minor things, but it seems strange how they work out that way. It makes me wonder if there really is someone watching over me. If there is, I hope they don't mind that I'm incredulous.

I like to poke fun at fate and destiny since they can't be disproved, but Karma is a good thing to believe in.

Well, I don't think they can be disproven or proven. How can one prove fate exists anyway? How can one prove it doesn't exist? These are rhetorical questions, by the way.

So wait, it's your fate to get married to an imaginary person?

    Also, what's Kanji?

Kanji is a Japanese way of writing, usually used in names.

No, I don't think I'm going to get married to an imaginary person. You make me feel like you're making fun of me. >.>

However, I DO feel a lot better about my current situation, though, and that I'm a lot less hopeless. Which, you know, should generally be viewed as a positive thing from this, unless you're really, REALLY mean.

I had another weird coincidence today. :S

Basically, while jogging, I was attacked several times by a bird. But not just any bird, but an owl, the very symbol of wisdom. I happen to respect a certain... "deity" of wisdom (of which becomes an EXTREMELY controversial subject :S). Also, it was trying to steal my hat, which has the "Crest of Courage" (pictured on the left of this post, about fifteen billion times), which I said was free to take away as soon as I became unworthy.

I also happened to have been feeling really down about myself recently, along with really tangled up between commitments to part of myself, commitment to friends, commitment beyond regular commitment, and just about everything.

I feel it should also be mentioned that I've never seen an owl around here before. Or in general. Nor have I heard of them attacking passersby and trying to steal their garments and accessories.

Also, after every time it reached for me, it would look at me with huge, all-knowing eyes, which almost seemed both judgmental and anxious.

Basically, after I finished my jog (and couldn't breathe, as I have severe lung problems and the lung medicationy-inhaler like thing makes me want to throw up and I feel physically ill), thinking about it, I decided that it was lame of me to let fear of appearances influence me so strongly, keeping me away from people who would genuinely be my friends, and looking the way I'd want to look (and wear what I want to wear), and so I decided to stop letting that part of me take over my life.

While I don't like to draw hasty conclusions about majorly important subjects (I mean, after all, drawing conclusions from this would be stating how things work, and I don't really know :S), I'd have to say that it seems kind of odd for such things to happen together, much less end with me having self-improving realizations about who I am and what's wrong with me. Of course, that was all left to self-interpretation too, so these problems could be in my head.

Curious to see what anyone else thinks. Assuming they read. :p

Fate is every choice/event is pre-determined, where Destiny is where every choice you make does not effect the final outcome.

I have often likened myself to an Angel of Death or Misfortune. My mother once told me (after a close friend of hers died) that everyone she cares about dies. Ironically (and I don't use the term jokingly), she passed away before my father, who was both someone she very deeply loved and also had extremely poor health.

I wondered after my mother passed away whether or not I became that Angel of Misfortune for others. While a story of the past 5+ years is excessive, here's a concise list of things that happened:
    -Father passes away
-Sister 2 comes out for funeral, then steals his ashes at 6 am the next day and bails back to California
-Move to Wyoming with older sister (1) to continue school (staying at her apartment and sleeping on a couch)
-Fight a lot with sister about no personal space and choose to move to Georgia with uncle
-SS benefits from parents' deaths disappear and contact with sister is lost for over a year, straining relationships.
-Uncle gets evicted and we cramp up into another family member's house
-Contact with sister is eventually reestablished and come to find out one of her ex-BFs robbed the account with my money
-10 million different financial problems occur for my uncle during these years

Hmm, interpretion can be a tricky thing...
And there's no way to be sure that a dream/experience even means anything- and in the end, there would never be proof anyways.
...and yes, admittedly I'm fairly religious...

...anyways, the opinion that I can make from what you've said so far, Naidako, is pretty much that you believe you should get more courageous? :S
But I may as well state, that the more someone learns about something, the easier it can be to make connections between things whether correct or otherwise... not saying that I would know or believe in your deity and that sort, but basically that you might be reading too much into it...

Still, strange experiences nonetheless; and I would certainly say courage is one thing I believe you can't ever have too little of...

Haha, it's passed through my mind on many occasions that I could be reading too much into it, and quite possibly, I could be.

And now it makes slightly more sense, connecting my lacking of courage in behaviors whilst trying to bear its entirety on my forehead.

I better try harder this time. P:

I should add that interpretation bends to circumstance and perspective. Then, an opinion is made. Opinion always seems like a negative term nowadays, but I mean it in the most literal sense.
