Anyone care for a Steampunk RP? Presumably, you play as ponies within said steampunk environment living your lives as friends until something happens that threatens something, somehow. OK, so it's pretty thin right now but I'll be fleshed out as time goes on.
I love the idea of technological transition, especially the idea of an outdated technology being clung too for a long, long time. Steam Peaks, a city that clings to the side of a mountain miles from Canterlot, relies on it's engineering and steam power over magic to deal with their regular issues and problems. They are master engineers and have spent centuries using nothing but pressure, iron and steel to solve their problems. The city of metal and wood is sunken into the mountain with a constant cloud around it. Not from breaking the cloud layer but from the constant smoke and steam from boilers. They dive deep below the crust to look for their required elements and ores to complete their various machines. They aren't considered great poets, they turn out few novels and rarely produce an artist that has drawn anything other than machine components. This is a city of science, mechanics and mathematics. If you want something built in this world, you take it to the Mountains in the East. Interestingly, they have a fondness for music. Make of that what you will but expect a Steam Peak pony to be able to play something or sing. So, in this juggernaut of might, metal and pressure, there is an evolution coming. Finally, after all these years of boilers and pistons there is a possible new wave of innovation coming. They have invented the motor and the transistor. You see, electricity has been discovered and generating it is rather trivial for Steam Peaks. They just hook a boiler and steam engine to turn a dynamo and generate light. Up until now, electricity has been used for nothing but light because Steam Peaks figured there wasn't much merit in it when steam engines could still manage to get the job done. However, one bright spark (pun sort of intended) has had the radical idea of pumping electricity into a modified dynamo, creating electromagnetism and a motor. A device that can do the work of a steam engine with a smaller size. Elsewhere, experiments with a possible method of basic machine intelligence to create smarter tools for mining created the transistor, a tiny doohickey that allows for basic computing functions. Steam Peaks are using them for mining tools such as barometers, dangerous gas alarms and even Obsidian Beetle traps. An Obsidian Beetle is an armoured vertebrate insect that thought the black exoskeleton it's named after was worth keeping around considering the potential threats from pressure, heat and other beetles. They have the appearance of armoured centipedes but the name has stuck regardless as the large pincers are still considered a great threat in these mines. Being predators, they have been known to carry ponies off in lieu of a meal that could be wandering across the surface. While thought to have been hunted to extinction 3 times in as many as 135 years, the beetle population seems as unlikely to perish as the Peak Ponies are to stop mining in the mountains. Further creatures have been sighted down in the depths. Records are kept but are often sketchy. The depths of the soil makes it clear that ponies are not welcome. Now that you are aware of the dangers, you'll be perfectly happy to wander down into the depths to find the trapped minors down there. Your being kitted out with the best and latest devices we can give you. The new Electo-Motor drills and tools should make your trip a short one. It is vital that you accomplish this task. The last we heard, they had found a treasure we thought was lost to the ages. The Heart of the Mountain. The last remnants of the rebellious unicorns in these mountains has been found and their weapon against our forefathers. It is a priceless artefact and a potential risk to leave it down there. Bring back our minors, if there are any to take and recover this artifact, whatever it may be. What do you think?
