First of all, this isn't very original, but I've been wanting to try it. Here are my ideas so far: It is eons since the events in Friendship is Magic, and long past the time of peace. Technology has advanced to the point that interstellar travel is possible. Along with the new opportunities for exploration, there are new threats as well. Equestria is at war with another species(I haven't thought of a name for them yet) and this species has already colonized several other planets. This species is similar to equestrians, in the sense of being quadrupeds and having different races with unique abilities, and are known for their lust for power. The outlook for the war doesn't look good for Equestria and all troops and supplies are spread thin. You are part of a battalion that was sent to begin conquest on one of the few habitable planets in a system nearby. Things began well enough you were met with virtually no resistance upon entering the system, but things quickly took a turn for the worst when you discovered an enemy outpost near the targeted planet. Your battalion was easily defeated by the enemy's surprise attack and you crash landed on the targeted planet. The enemy believes there were no survivors of the crash, but have decided to dispatch a small squadron of soldiers to check. The dispatch is expected to arrive sometime within the next two weeks. You have contacted Equestria for rescue, but the war has everyone spread too thin to send someone to come help. There are very few supplies that survived the crash, but have detected a local village approximately twenty miles from your current location. You know nothing of the other ships in the fleet, but they are likely to have landed nearby. The enemy is preparing conquest on the planet. Also, the locals are peaceful and know not much of the coming invasion, for the only have basic technology. They have only advanced to the point of very simple and unreliable firearms for weapons, and prefer using spears and bows. They will only fight if necessary and will try anything to avoid conflict, but they do not want to surrender their land. I haven't though of much more other than the crash location is a forest area with some dangerous animals in it. I'm open to suggestions and hope we can turn this interesting. I was having trouble thinking of other races. I thought the natives of planet "x", or whatever I'll end up calling it, should be humanoid with scales. I wanted them to be a species that lives in small tribes in the deserts. My first thought for the species at war with equestria was robo-ponies. I quickly decided no, but wanted them to have some sort of enhancements on them. Maybe machine limbs with weapons built in. My next thought was maybe make them similar to wolves. Although that would make it difficult to create different races within the species. I would probably have to draw some concepts for that idea. If anyone has ideas for this species, it would be really helpful.
