Ok, so I've been staying with my grandparents this summer, and my grandmother is a prime example. I love watching through the wormhole and other science shows. She absolutely hates them. She says that I'm questioning God. So, I ask you, is ignorance bliss? Should we follow blindly? Or should we ask questions? Find the answers we seek?
Always ask questions. For example: Should I murder someone today? Ignorance: YEAH LET'S DO IT I SEE NO REASON WHY NOT WHY DID I EVEN ASK THIS WOOO. Not ignorance: That sounds like a risky and dangerous idea. Maybe I'll make some tea instead. Insanity: I'LL DO BOTH!~
Is it bad that I would choose the path of insanity? In fact, there are those who follow God, but also choose to seek the answers in order to prove God? Show her the History Channel series: Proving God... she might get off your back. :magic:
That's a lie. If you didn't know stepping in front of a moving bus would hurt you, you'd soon find out otherwise.
Religion without science is blind however science without religion is lame... Not sure I'd that answers your question but that's the best you're getting
Question everything, demand answers to all of life's questions. Knowledge that brings fear is infinitely more worthy than safe ignorance. Science isn't wrong, it simply doesn't know everything yet.
Why should science and religion be mutually exclusive? Now I guess it depends on what you believe in, but I'm sure god wouldn't mind people showing a bit of interest in the finer details of his creation.
"So, I ask you, is ignorance bliss? Should we follow blindly? Or should we ask questions? Find the answers we seek?" The thing about this is, you can't answer it as an absolute. Should we follow blindly? Depends. Should we ask questions? Depends. Of course people should ask questions. Despite what some people like to think, learning is one of the greatest joys people have. Why do you think video games are so popular? Because they are all about experimenting and discovery, core principles of learning. At the same time, there are plenty of things that most would agree you should follow blindly. The law against murder for example, is a law that you probably don't need to understand the history, origins, or reasons of but you should still probably follow it. I'm sure just as many people will who say you shouldn't follow a religion blindly will also tell you not to follow science blindly. Both really are the results of a lot of study and change all the time, barring a few core ideas. I can't help but feel this topic was once tackled by a purple unicorn, before she was a princess, who learned a lesson in believing in things she doesn't understand and how that was okay. Early scientist believed they were just discovering how God made the universe. Which is probably a really good way to think about it.
I don't think ignorance is bliss. Just because you don't know about something doesn't mean it can't affect you. Example: the sun shone in the sky and provided us with light far before we knew what it was or what it was made of. It may also be that acting out of your own ignorance brings you to harm because you weren't aware of the consequences.
