Well, we have plenty of "favorite character" threads in pretty much all fandom-related forums, but it's usually up to people like ME to start such a dangerous thread as this one. As saying you hate/dislike one character that is popular would be committing suicide, let's all commit suicide together! xDDD
And let us not to be fake, we all have a pain on the neck in a certain franchise or series! Admit it, you do!

In my case, I'll be stepping on some other hoofs, but I DON'T CARE! >8D MWahahahahahahaha!

...Er, you can't really step on a hoof, can you?

    --------------------------------------- 8< ---------------------------------------

Well, as some of you may guess (or not), we have the following...

    5th place = Silver Spoon

    - Why yes?
She's cute and a classy Earth Pony, which is a rare thing in this show. Earth ponies are usually out by fandom. And a bold personality along with a not so proud genius is always welcome.
    - Why not?
Aside from that she's passive over Diamond Tiara, making her another sidekick. Big Penalty. And she turns out nasty and spoiled-rotten like her bossman. Or bossfilly, for that matter.

    - Overall opinion?
Silver Spoon... Her special talent is dealing with silverware? Is this something to brag about? I think I'm starting to like Rainbow Dash more...

    --------------------------------------- 8< ---------------------------------------

4th place = Aunt and Uncle Orange

    - Why yes?
None at all. Except for some family attitude. A normal rich burguese family would admit their rustic niece as a handmaiden rather than their actual niece. It was surprising for me to see them "adopting" her.
    - Why not?
Read again: rich burguese family. Snobbish idiots who like to think they're superior and fine. They hide every single failure under a rug of lies. Money buys them status, pretty much anything. And they probably hate the Canterlot nobleponies with an envious passion.

    - Overall opinion?
While they're supposed to be that kind of arrogant family with taste for status, they turn as boring as a light on the street. It's just too "meh" to be nasty.

    --------------------------------------- 8< ---------------------------------------

    3rd place = Derpy Hooves/Ditzy Doo

    - Why yes?
She sounds funny, hey! Derpy eyes!
    - Why not?
She sounds weird, too. She's nuts!

    - Overall opinion?
While it's the same with Octavia, Lyra and Bonbon and many others (i.e. a rather unknown character molded by fandom), which is highly understandable, I really don't see why a pegasus with lazy eyes can be that adorable/funny/whatsoover. And to be honest, fandom ruined the whole thing about Ditz to me... I hope the second season can fix that - and I am not talking about her eyes!

    --------------------------------------- 8< ---------------------------------------

2nd place = Duke Blueblood of Astron (AKA "Celestia's nephew")

    - Why yes?
Hey, he's jerkish but he's an idiot! He's silly! Easy to bully! And he's handsome! (uh?)
    - Why not?
Need to say? What his looks and idioticy don't show his actions tell! He's selfish, rude, whimpy and stuck-up!

    - Overall opinion?
Rarity made a good choice to break her crystal shoe at the stairs...

    --------------------------------------- 8< ---------------------------------------

1st place = As you guessed, (the great and powerful) Trixie

    - Why yes?
She's a fun character because she's such a poker face. It's good to see a break on the goodie-shoes characters who do everything according to plan and rules. She lies, she plays, yet she's SO dumb she always get away with it without the proper punishment. A fun character because she's so mischievious yet so silly. She's also pretty, and quite charming as well. Her color scheme and costume is a delight comparing even to Luna's or Fluttershy's.
    - Why not?
While her ego is not as big as Rainbow's, her stupidity is far from umbearable. She portraits that kind of loser eternally remembered by Team Rocket from the classic Pokémon series - they started as epic bad guys, but then fell into the cartoonish, idiotic stereotype of baddies running after the main character in a Looney Toons fashion (and I can barely support it outside Looney Toons); except that, unlike what fandom portraits, she's not in love with Twilight. This makes me dislike her deeply, yet I have no reason to like her any bit. And fandom made it worse, because it means her whole existence is 4 teh LuLz, in and outside the show.

    - Overall opinion?
    Simple as this sounds.

    --------------------------------------- 8< ---------------------------------------

0th place, AKA "THE VERY MOST HATED CHARACTER" = Gilda, the griffon

    - Why yes?
Gilda's the only actual bad guy/villain since Nightmare Moon and until season 2's first arc or so. She's also the sole character with a given personality outside the common female stereotypes, and a HUGE break until episodes such as the buffalos one, for both species and character. She indeed appeals to everyone who likes a bolder character. A "finally" nasty character who's nonpowerful and merely nasty. She's also not cute-pinky, which is a huge bonus, at least to me.
    - Why not?
The list goes on forever: crude, sharp, selfish, possessive, completely rude, agressive, arrogant... And she may look ugly for those who like the candy-colored ponies more.

    - Overall opinion?
It's perfectly fine if a character is homosexual to you. If Gilda was only less jerkish to all or completely nasty to Dash, she would be something, but in the very end she seemed to hold deep feelings for her pegasus friend. But this is not because she was in love with her, but most probably because she was her only friend. This makes her not only nasty, but a Forever Alone as well! Read well: Forever Alone, not lesbian! - and being a Forever Alone is MUCH WORSE than being a loser!
To finish, I could say she offended Fluttershy and that this would be a penalty, but this is me being biased.

    --------------------------------------- 8< ---------------------------------------

    Mentioned in Dispairs

    Snips and Snails
They're that very kind of character who's the disposable comedic element, like I said before. While they're not really any interesting or show any potential, they're a good break from the pretty ponies. And they hold quite of a talent as well, though being idiots. This is was kept them from the awful chars list.

    Diamond Tiara
Unlike Silver Spoon, Tiara has some potential, though already gaining her cutie mark as a spoiled-rotten yearling and being such a nasty little filly. She's the kind to learn her lesson yet not admit it, and would be a better element if she appeared more and learned along the CMC. At the same time, she's nothing special or enough interesting for me to like her.

    Lyra and Bonbon
Their roles in fandom drove me away from them, like Ditz. I don't have enough motives to dislike or hate them, though.

    Scootaloo
Yes, Scootaloo. Because her personality as a tomboy (who are usually "oh-action-is-all-that-matters"), and the way she worships Dash makes her not a sidekick, but a pet. And pets are my pet peeve in TV series. Though, she's the only one among the CMC who focus, sometimes. This attitude prevented me to hate her.

    --------------------------------------- 8< ---------------------------------------

Must ask, are you hating me now?

Hmm, i am not gonna be in-depth as you are, but i have to say I dislike 3 ponies:

3rd - Dash. Why? Because she seems so overatted in my eyes.
2nd - Derpy. Why? Again, because she seems so overatted in my eyes.
1st - Scootaloo. Why? Because... I dunno, i just dislike her.

    <gasp!> Not Scootaloo! :)

    1. Derpy Hooves. Why all the love for her?
    2. Don't hate me, but...Fluttershy. Too wimpy for me.

Rainbow Dash. I'll go more in depth about why I hate(when I get to an actual computer) but let me just say she is everything I dislike in people, though a few redeeming factors keep me from completely despising her.

Me, I don't dislike any of the mane six. All of them have character flaws which they are working to overcome and/or understand. This is one of the great things I like about the show.

The only ones I dislike are those that are used solely for plot devices, mostly Snips and Snails. Trixie and Gilda were the main antagonists in the episodes they appeared in, they have potential to develop if they are used again in the future.

It seems to me that Snips and Snails will not become more than they are and just be used when necessary during a lull in the action so to speak. They have had a role in several episodes and have only been their namesake, the silly young boys.

Y u no liek Derpy? lol Kidding. I don't really hate any of the ponies. Though I do dislike some of their personality characteristics. I agree, Rainbow Dash's and Trixie's high and mighty personalities get to me sometimes. Though I know people who have such personalities also often suffer from feelings of low self-worth or self-esteem. Which I find kinda sad. It's hard for me to say my least favorite though. I don't really know enough about a lot of the background ponies to say much. I'd need to learn more about them themselves and their backgrounds before making a good conclusion. But least favorite out of the main six I would have to say would be Twilight. Like I said before, she's sweet and all. And I'm glad she's got such a stable head on her shoulders. But she just seems kinda bland to me too. She doesn't really "pop!" out to me much. Only once in a great while. But I guess that's what she's kinda intended to be in contrast to the other six, the more "average" pony of the group. But I can't say I honestly really dislike her. I can say I'm not that fond of Gilda at all really though. She's just completely a "binch" to everyone. I can't find many redeeming qualities about her, if any. Out of the background ponies, eh, I like'em all alright. As much as I can with the limited knowledge we have on them anyway. Most have some characteristics I like and some I don't.

Dash seems somehow in the wrong concept or wrong series. She's too manly to be in the main cast of a girly show...

As for Twilight, she's a blank face because Faust chose the actual main character a witness instead of the main concept of the show. If she was a more complete character, the series would be about Twilight solely. This would ruin everything and Twilight would be as likeable as Gilda, or less. And I think she's better this way than getting too much place in the plots.

Well, in Dash's defense ( I never thought I would type those words), Faust included her to show the primary demographic (young girls) that you don't have to be a stereotypical girly girl. She wanted to show that there is nothing wrong with being a tomboy and that they could be any kind of girl that they wanted to be, including athletic (this idea, funnily enough can apply to the brony community too. You could enjoy cartoons and "childish" things and still be a man.). So I don't think Rainbow Dash should be disliked because she's too "manly", she should be disliked because she flaunts her athleticism and acts like she is a godsend to all of Equestria. (Sorry for the crap paragraph structure. I'm using my iPod to write this.)

I know that. But I still think Twilight could have something that makes her pop out more. Kinda reminds me of Fluttershy sometimes, without the extra cute factor.

Zephyr Wind: I said she seems out of place in the show, but never said she shouldn't be liked because she's manly - actually, to an extent, this is the fandom's fault. The fans, especially those who like to couple, prefer her as a lesbian instead of a mere tomboy. I think they portrait her as a lesbian because she's more bearable being a homosexual in "desguise" than an immature boasting tomboy.

Yeah, that's why I avoid the shipping stuff- rainbows and a tomboy attitude does not equal lesbian. Lyra and Bon-Bon on the other hand.....:p

I couldn't have said it better myself. No, seriously, I couldn't. Great post, Bamboo! I enjoyed reading it. Gilda is also my least favorite for the reasons that you've described since she puts on the archetypical persona of a bully, which I loathe. I don't particularly care for that just-trying-to-act-cool part either. My first impression of her was, "Oh, cool, a griffon, that's something new," but as soon as she started trying to keep Pinkie Pie away is when I knew she was trouble. Then when she made Fluttershy cry, I immediately hoped that somepony would get back at her. Kudos to Pinkie Pie for using that "killing them with kindness" method to get back at her; using the harmless pranks all the while maintaining her happy-go-lucky attitude. Although the pranks themselves were setup by Rainbow Dash.

I thought it was interesting to use the word "villain" to describe Gilda. To me, Gilda is just a bully. Nightmare Moon's intentions were much darker (no pun intended) than Gilda's and I figured she was more the villain-type. Strangely enough, I liked Nightmare Moon because she was a villain and I've usually liked villains. Almost every show or movie that I've watched that had a villain in it, the villain would be my favorite character. Sometimes I'd be upset when the villain lost! To me, Gilda's not worthy of the word, she's just a... well, in the words of Pinkie Pie, "She's a grump, and a thief, and a bully. The meanest kind of mean meanie-pants there is!" In other words, when I think of villains, I think of characters that have a more malevolent purpose other than just bullying. However, as you said, Gilda really was the only other "bad" character other than Nightmare Moon, so perhaps it's not fair of me to make such a comparison, but oh well.

ePONYmous: Great reply as well! Actually, what bothered me about Gilda is that she's not a likeable villain/bully - basically, even a bully seems to have their fans, but Gilda just doesn't help it because she's not any likeable (except maybe for those who like bullies). She actually seems forced to be the jerk each of the producers ever knew, which means she doesn't have any quality whatsoover. It prevented me to like her any bit because she's both nasty AND forced to be nasty. And the fact that Dash WAS her only friend didn't help. You can't really like a Forever Alone, can you?

After stating this and reading your reply, I remembered that time she got back and stood loyal to her friends... And then, I think I'm REALLY starting to like Dash more... She's still in the bottom of my favorite list, though.

Well... I hate Gilda because of her horrible behaving in "Griffon the Brush Off". Of course I hate Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon too (because they were so cruel to Apple Bloom). I very don't like Princess Celestia before "A Bird in the Hoof" (I don't know what about "later" Celestia)... she's both so sweet and so medieval (or Egyptian... I mean despotism)... And I don't like Trixie because of her bad behaving in "Boast Busters" (if she didn't look so nice and friendly I would absolutely hate her).
And sometimes I can't stand Rarity's cruelty to Spike... But on the whole Rarity is OK.

One thing is how they're portrayed by the episode. Another is if they're captivating or not.

Trixie is captivating, even though her egoccentric personality. However, her sole existence is 4 teh LuLz, which means she's supposed to be funny. I tend to dislike such characters, and it's a big offense to me to claim that such a fat loser is "awesome". Funny? To you. But not awesome, no sir.

And Gilda... If she was portrayed a little more awesome-looking she could be bearable. But she's already rather unpleasant, and the fact that she's supposed to be obnoxious just made things worse. She's just too bad. And the fact that she weakened over Dash's reaction to her bad behaviour... Who could be any awesome after that? And don't give me the "join them", because she's not the kind to do that.

I prefer Diamond Tiara because she doesn't lack personality like Silver Spoon. She's sure a bully, but children at school age can be rather cruel, especially if their parents let them be or reinforce that. And she has potential as a character, not to mention some guts. Silver Spoon is simply... Unfriendly. And that's all. And her cutie mark and the fact that she looks older than Rarity with her glasses make her a pain on my left shoulder.

Rarity's not cruel to Spike. But seriously, do you really think this is going to work? I guess this is more like a little boy's crush. And we all know we never get to be with out first love. Do we?

And if you all want me to be honest, Celestia's better than she actually sounds.

Another vote for, that is, against Gilda. The reasons have already been mentioned.

The Great and Powerful Trixie™—well, yeah, she's a braggart and can't quite back her bragging, but you must admit that she isn't exactly a bad magician. Granted, most of her show is show, but would she pull all that off if she knew that the Sparklers and Twinkles she might have in any of her audience could accept her challenge and outdo her with ease (and I'm not talking about the notorious "I'm gonna make up half of Trixie's audience with multiponies of myself and DDoS her on stage with my clones if need be" wizardresses Colgate and Lyra). In fact, she wouldn't be an easy match for Rarity in a SFX duel. She could be one amazing mage if she gets over being a show-off. This unicorn has got potential. I can see her return to Ponyville in explicit search of Twilight Sparkle because she bit off more than she could chew once again and needs a certain one-unicorn magic overkill to help her out. In the end, the former rivals might even team up.

Trixie's two pesky unicorn fanboys, on the other hoof...

Pulse Wave: I still think Trixie is a failure at pretty much at least being a poser. I understand her a lot, but just can't quite support her as a LuLz character. You sound like she's interesting and has potential. I never denied that. The sad thing is, she didn't give us much reason beside the LuLz or the expectations - which means she was a discarded character. Also, she's that archetypical loser stereotype, which I pretty much hate - YES, she IS a loser. A braggart is almost always a loser at heart. And to give such a background thing that importance... Sure, it was Snips and Snails' fault, but... I can't believe she believed in her own lie and tried to defeat the Ursa...

Bamboo: Well, she didn't believe the lie that she had previously defeated an Ursa. She did, however, want to believe that if she tried her hardest, she really could defeat one. She wanted to prove that she was really as great and powerful as she said she was. True, she wasn't in the end, but you have to give her points for trying instead of just admitting that she had never done it before.
